UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed Wednesday in a “brazen, targeted attack” outside a Manhattan hotel where the health insurer was holding its investors conference, police said, setting off a massive dragnet hours before the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting nearby.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called it a “horrific and targeted shooting.” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said: “This was not what appears to be a just random act of violence. It seems to be clearly targeted by an individual, and we will apprehend that individual.”
New York City police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that a masked gunman was waiting around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday for Thompson, 50, head of one of the largest insurance providers in the nation, outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel...
There's video of the shooter waiting nearby for quite some time before he shot the CEO. His wife said he had been getting threats.
We're going to go out on a limb and assume it's something like panti-fa or one of those associated groups. If we're correct, we may have just entered a new and disturbing era of politically generated violence that hasn't seen the light of day since the Weathermen bombings.

The leftest assholes on NBC's Law and Order now have another idea for their fantasy TV show.
Gotta say, I disagree. I’ll put money on its domestic related. While I’m not celebrating, I’m not losing sleep. UHC is notoriously horrible to people paying thru the nose to be insured by them (some jobs don’t give you many choices). So while your premiums go up, you systematically get denied for loads of things or walk into your doctor’s appointment only to find UHC dropped your doctor from its providers because they wouldn’t agree to ridiculously low costs. You don’t have $90 billion in profits & $450 billion in revenue in a single year by caring about the health of those paying your $10 million dollar salary. Add to that pension funds who invest in them were clueless while execs like this guy sold off stock (while being investigated by DOJ) and raked in tens of millions in from doing it.
I was thinking this has more of a "Una-Bomber" vibe. This was not a professional "Hit'" But, a motivated mission by a zealot. I'm going to wait for the possible Manifesto to come out. However, someone close to the victim knew the schedule, lack of security, almost how to get away with it. Briscoe and Greene are gonna solve this 30 minutes into the episode! Donk-Donk.
How did this guy just walk up and cap someone that important? Don't these big shot CEOs have private security everywhere they go? Elon Musk has a platoon with him any hour of the day. Looks like one of the biggest insurance firms out there got their security men from Temu or something.
Let’s see, someone isn’t happy with their health pan, someone thinks selling stocks is illegal, someone wants to silence someone from testifying reference to over charging government health plans-Medicare and/or Medicaid or someone didn’t like the idea of Brian Thompson banging his spouse/girlfriend. Take your pick. In the next few weeks something will come out in the wash.

Could easily have been denied coverage or a family member denied coverage and died. Doesn’t have to be some organized thing, just a lone vigilante doing good work.
Another possibility is he was singing to the feds on the monopoly and insider trading to avoid prosecution for his part on insider trading. There was one executive who cashed in to the tune of $85 million. There was also an alleged “hack” of UHC where they paid a $22 million dollar ransom- kind of makes you wonder how legit that was. There’s so much to unpack on this one.
I'm actually surprised we haven't seen more of this type of thing here. There are allot of pissed off people.

We already entered into a new era of political violence SCC. It started on May 28th, 2020 with the BLM-ANTIFA riots...then assassinations and ambushes of police officers (Dallas, NYC, etc)...then onto the attempt assassinations of President Trump. Welcome to America 2.0 boys and girls. The re-election of Trump only bought us 4 years...so act accordingly.

You who champion vigilantism. I'm firmly on the right, politically speaking. I'm spent most of my career in healthcare, including CFO of a not for profit hospital, who set prices, dealt with insurance companies and denials, and was the final say in approving or denying applications for free and reduced price care based on income. I hate our healthcare system. While I cannot condone murder, if the killer is someone who suffered or had a loved one suffer as a result of denial of claims or treatment, I completely understand the pain and frustration that could drive someone to act out. As a business law professor warned, if you use the law unfairly to cheat someone, beware. There are those who will step outside the bounds of law to seek redress. There is a principle of Buddhism that urges followers to seek "right livelihood" - aligning ones profession with their moral values. Many people should look at what they do and its effects on others.
