Money Train Getting Empty
It's amazing how much money government has to spend when times are good. No one looks too closely at the outflow because there's so much coming in. Scandals are minimal, too, because no one is going to snitch during the good times.
But what about the lean times - like the past decade or more here:
Calling it “the nightmare before Christmas,” a coalition of residents and advocates decried Mayor Brandon Johnson’s proposal to cut Chicago’s guaranteed income program to help fill a budget hole.
As the mayor’s administration works toward a budget deal, about $30 million in COVID-19 relief funds set aside for the Chicago Empowerment Fund is on the chopping block. A coalition of formerly incarcerated residents, immigrants and advocates urged the mayor and City Council members to keep the guaranteed income program in the budget at a City Hall news conference late last week.
“Shame, shame, shame on the City Council; shame on our mayor,” said Richard Wallace, executive director of Equity and Transformation, a group that helps citizens returning from prison on the West Side. “We got commitment from the city that this pilot was going to be in the budget in 2025, and for us to find out that this program is slowly but surely getting pushed out, it was something that we could not sleep with.”
Oh, it's the formerly incarcerated crowd...the ones who are likely getting our Peoples Gas extortion money.
All we heard during the Biden years was how great the economy was doing, how unemployment was down and inflation was all imaginary. Meanwhile fifteen million (or more) illegals came over the border, got bussed in and flown all over the country, and drove down real wages, destroying the housing market by taking entire buildings out of circulation.
And the lefties want their "guaranteed income" programs - which are funded by people with jobs - to keep funneling money down a bottomless rat hole.
When we wanted a new car or had to replace a furnace, you know what we did? Worked Special. Found OT opportunities. Cut back on certain expenditures. Even found a part time job for a little while.
Hunger or cold should be a motivator for the formerly incarcerated.

CPS Money Train is all out of COVID money.
Now we know where ex-CPS and ex-Park District IG Svelyn Willam Fletcher came from and what was his connection to allow 77,505 (cost $23M) in laptops and tech devices to go MIA.
Fletcher was a litigation attorney for the law firm of Jenner & Block. (The laptops and tech devices were paid for with COVID money)
Fletcher perused CPS inventory records to see find 77,505 laptops and tech devices were missing or lost and even said in his investigation 26 CPS schools couldn't account for all laptops and tech devices issued to them. Yet, CPS claims in FOIA Requests they don't know how many laptops and tech devices were lost or missing at each school.
CPS also paid over $2.5M for tracking devices for the laptops and tech devices, but, didn't use the trackers. Was Fletcher's investigation a fugazi to cover for $23M in COVID money being lost? You betcha.
Jenner & Block also brought us Forrest Claypool and Ron Marmer(?) that led to a huge CPS Ethics scandal with both men getting shitcanned out of CPS. Both white collar seisters were involved in a CPS investigation that involved Jenner & Block.
Fletcher hightailed it out of CPS in Augusr 2024 after his office took 4 years to reach a determination in the now ex-Office of Student Protections/Chief Officer Camie Pratt investigation. Pratt was found to have lied multiple times, including in the Lincoln Park HS Basketball investigations. Pratt resigned in July 2024 and was DNH'd by CPS after lying allegations against her were substantiated by Fletcher.
Most CPS employees under investigation are pulled from their positions immediately, Pratt was allowed to continue in her position for nearly 4 years and she received 4 raises topping out at $211,000.
Also, Fletcher investigated PPP loan fraud and found 700 CPS employees took out loans. There was so much fraud, Fletcher had to whittle down the 700 to 100 employees and then whittled down the 100 to 24 CPS employees making over $100,000 while others not making that walked. All 24 were Black people with the highest ranking fraudster being Cynthia Cooper, one time Chief of Staff to the CPS CEO ( Pedro Martinez). Cooper was making $225,00 a uear for CPS.
Still questions remain as to why Fletcher's office was investigating PPP loan fraud as it didn't involve CPS money and this was out of Fletcher's jurisdiction. Fletcher only pinched each fraudster on not having secondary employment approval and the chance they might steal from CPS in the future.
Was this another fugazi investigation by Fletcher to thwart the federal government from taking over CPS? You betcha.
Do not recall voters ever being asked to approve a guaranteed income plan???

One of the lessons my parents taught very early on in our household was if you are physically able and you don’t work, you are just lazy. Therefore you don’t deserve a hand up or a handout. Stop blaming society for your problems and take a look in the mirror!
The “goal” of the no strings attached cash give a way was the people receiving the cash they’d use it to better themselves.
Instead they used it to work less, if they even worked, did not take time to better themselves with further education, or take any steps in improving their future.
They used the money as a subsidy as you’d expect.

Think we're one of the few Chicago households that didn't receive PPP money. I see all these luxury cars driving around rather recklessly by folks younger than me, more ghetto than me, and wonder why they've got a Rover or a Benz, and I've only a Honda.
Consider this. Long term it destroys the property value, so a developer can swoop in and get good properties for pennies on the dollar. Then the trash is driven out, property values go up, and the connected make a killing, and the City is full of working/taxpaying people again...
