What the...?!?

Why don't we have any of these?

Seriously....a CFD Mustang? Who's driving these, Battalion Chiefs?

Bought or leased?

Meanwhile, remember what the guys on the north side are driving:

CPD does have some mustangs. Take a look in the lot at 35th St. Back in 2022, Ford could not produce the amount of explorers needed. CPD start taking Escapes, mustangs, and pickups for non-patrol duties. All Ford products

It’s not really a Mustang. It’s an EV that identifies as a Mustang.

Looks like the Mustang EV, why not?? When you absolutely need to get to a fire, the vehicle runs out of power. The Chicago Way! Meanwhile much of the actual firefighting equipment is in disrepair and parked in storage lots until they rust and will be sold for scrap metal.

Let's not quibble about the charging stations. See if you can get the former Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttpacker, to advise on costs of the charging stations. He could recommend the company that he contracted putting in a dozen stations for $84M. The city can afford it. Just another spending boondoggle and another reason not to fund our pensions.

Just my very old and humble opinion.

I saw these at the O'Hare AMC building about 2 months ago. They're city owned not leased. They also got about 6 electric f150 lightnings at the AMC for motor truck driver supervisor use. (Along with a charging station INSIDE the AMC)

Bring back CFD ambulances and Fire dept. cars that are black over red with gold lettering.

The Chicago Fire Dept. colors have been that way since the horse and buggy days in the 1870s. These bastards have to change everything.

That picture displays poor training on the part of the mechanics. That rim fell apart because the wrench was set to too high of a setting. The mope probably meant well, making sure the tire didn't fall off by making the lugs tighter. Tighter isn't always better. Over torquing the lugs is just as dangerous as under torquing.

I've never seen a CFD mustang in the wild. I have seen a few city vehicles with out of state plates. What's up with that? No city sticker too. Should've wrote it a parker.

It's a Mustang Mach-E, It's a fully electric 4 door. They start at $40k. This one looks like it came from Sutton Ford in Matteson, IL, not part of a fleet purchase from Ford, like they do with CPD/CFD/pool Explorers & Streets & San F150's.

The fire chief back then had a shipping co(boats) also and that's how they were painted also. then he put red & green navigation lights (like on the boats) on the CFD that's why CFD gas green lights on units

I think they buy at Sutton Ford to check the DEI box. Owner/CEO Nate Sutton is African American and completed the Ford Minority Dealer Training Program in 1989 and opened his first dealership Olympia Fields Ford before relocating to Matteson, Illinois in 2000 and renaming it Sutton Ford.

The CFD problem is just the same as CPD. They beat the hell out of their trucks also and don’t care. We get new cars and by 5k miles they are totaled because young cowboys drive 100 into oncoming traffic. CFD breaks theirs because they don’t slow down for anything either. Just like our cars that are hybrids they are more technological and can break easier. A lot of new fire trucks also have electronics including electronic valves and other technologies that if used roughly or the wrong way will break. This technology for the fire and police side aren’t practical for the extreme use that we give them. The electronics in the fire trucks are great for suburban and volunteer Dads who have a fire once a month or even longer. But when you’re using all this crap everyday and using it hard, it breaks. The problem with fire department equipment manufacturers is that they hire tons of retired small town chiefs who come up with things that “make the job easier” such as technology like electronic valves made with plastic internals and gauges, screens etc etc. again, great for the small department doing a fire a month, but getting used hard every day multiple times it’s going to break quick. For the big departments with heavy use you need traditional pressure gauges, steel dials, levers and valves. Otherwise all this crap will just keep breaking. Same with us in CPD, we need simple cars without all the electronics and hybrid crap. Make them easier to fix and less things that can break.. that will result in a cheaper upfront price to buy and a cheaper price to fix down the road with less chances of things breaking. The ford explorer hybrids are crap. Maybe the worst vehicle we have ever had. Non hybrid explorers are a little better at least but dump the hybrid crap.

Imagine thinking you could diagnose that as over-tightened lugs causing it by just a single grainy picture. There are many things that could cause what appears to have happened in that picture, and over-tightened lugs isn't even near the top of the list. Did they just torque that one wheel too much? Why didn't all the rest fall off? Why aren't all the vehicles they worked on having the same issue? My guess would be someone missed a shitload of rust damage that rotted straight through, which could point to poor training or lazy mechanics. In any case, I'd be willing to bet your assessment is completely wrong. Unless you're stripping everything or shearing studs, overtorquing didn't cause that. And it wouldn't look like that.

Ford is losing 100k per ev. They have backed off on their battery plant and ev lines. Same with gm. Huge ford dealer near me has a lot full nobody wants them.dealers are telling ford no more. Gubmint is always the buyer of last resort. Big Corp can't sell their junk just see the local senator and bring a trunk full of cash and wala you have a buyer. The feds loaded up big time with Chrysler crap in the 80s when they went bankrupt. Army is always willing to help out and buy tons of trucks they never use. 20 year old 100k trucks with 1500 miles on them. Let the market decide what people want and not some pigster type who has never had a real job. Cpd kids today would love the old boy chebbies with screaming 350s you could hear blocks away. But I guess that would pass off Kerry and Greta and kill the polar bears 🐻

Remember the Orange Man is now in charge of the Feds and I don't see him approving any EV purchase in the next 4 years, even if they are free. Possible customers are the local governments with short budget money being awarded a few of these pieces of shit.

Just my humble opinion, but I could be wrong.
