Once is Happenstance....
So we wrote about Arena being an asshole on Monday. The post went up early in the morning as most posts do. Within sixteen hours, it was all over the Slum Times main page under Fran Spielman's byline. We didn't think much of it because the entire story had been reported by Crain's three days prior. We cover stuff we think cops might be interested in and they might not always have an opportunity to read about. Anything original is usually "inside baseball" type stuff.
However.....twice is coincidence.
We posted the email from Billy B regarding uniforms not being uniform on Wednesday, early in the AM. This time it only took fourteen hours for it to be all over the Slum Times front page again. They got a couple extra quotes from Catanzara, but it certainly looks like the media, particularly the rapidly sinking Slum times, is surfing our site and comment sections for stories, seeing as how they don't have any actual reporters left.
Three times is enemy action.
Be aware that we cannot prove and have no intention of proving everyone who reads or posts here is CPD. But if the Slum Times is going to be ::ahem:: stealing content again as they did years ago, the only decent thing to do is give proper credit (as we do via links) and send the Chaplain's $25 as a thank you (WGN's Ben Bradley being the only one who ever donated a dime), though in the Slum Times case, we'll drop the donation to $10 because we know you're all hard up for money.

Crime is killing the city and that’s the story. The Chicago police department doesn’t have any upper management who knows how to create strategy or get a plan to move the department in the right direction. The management we have had the last 10 years has done nothing but give their friends merit spots.
When you have nothing new to bring to the table you start in fighting and nitpick.
The city is lost. I know a lot of people who have plans on moving. All of them aren’t police.
There isn’t much any one can do but plan on moving. It will take 15 to 20 years to turn the police department around. That’s if you can have some people who really know what the heck they are doing.
The Scum-Times have been carrying the water for the Democrat politicians for years. Where did it get them? The City is in serious trouble and the bias news paper is going out of business. So much for fair and honest reporting.
A major component of the problem is the lying Johnson administration. The hiring of Arena has been floating around political circles for weeks. Reporters have been inquiring about it all along & they've received either silence or flat out denials as recently as last Friday to the Tribune's Jake Sheridan. BranJo's mouthpiece finally confirmed it on Monday, greenlighting Tribune's & Sun Times publication of it.
Is plagiarism still a crime?
It still proves the rags, Slum Times and the ChiRaq Trib are about to die? Because there is no newspaper reporters like we had back in the 60 to 80’s?
When I was just coming on and had court at 11th and State. I recall running into Mike Ryko or Bulldog Drummond in the lobby or elevators. Or being on street job of a train crash and the hoard of reporters trying to get information? But the great reporters would recognize the officers and detectives and later would be having lunch or dinner at a place like Billy Goats and slide by asking for any tips and clues?
This was back when the phone hung on the wall? You needed a pocket full of dimes? And the story was written today for publication tomorrow? Not this instant crap that gets it wrong more the right? Old man Daley hated the press but used them like a tool to get his story out? And they understood it? And if you as a cop or reporter stepped on your dick, the whole town knew it the next day? Now you have trash CPD bosses, giving BS to reporters and they run the story on day one on page one or two. And the next day apologizing for the story on page six? No respect or loyalty?
The next obvious step is to put out a juicy but implausible bit of red meat and see who takes the bait.
OT looks like Ray Lopez had a fundraiser and did pretty good the other night . Maybe for Mayoral run . Checks all the boxes BUT he sounds like a conservative most times so that null and voids everything else for the dems (Tio Tom)

If they are reading maybe they should find out how many people snelling stole his promotions from. What was his rank in the sergeant and lieutenant exams? How many people did he skip in line to get his “earned” promotions? Then once you post that get it for all the gold stars sun times.
Journalism of the era you speak is mostly dead. Truth, Justice, and the American Way has been replaced by Political Narrative, Social Justice, and the Brainwashing of voters. The vast majority of Americans don't have time or energy to follow, in detail, the political shenanigans of the City, County, State, or Federal clown shows. Just look at the election turn out percentage in the four categories in the previous sentence to see if this is true. The only way to hold Corporate Media accountable is to stop watching, reading, listening to their particular narrative. Their business model is based on advertising revenue.

The Sun Times and Trib were pretty good papers, back in the 1980's.
If you have a story that you think needs looking into, definitely send Ben Bradley from.Channel 9 an email or leave him a voicemail. He will keep it confidential and look at it, if he thinks it's newsworthy he will take a better look. Like most news media, never fully trust them but him and Patrick Elwood are decent men.
Some of us readers arent cops, nor are we chicagoans. The last time I was in Chicago was during the 1968 democratic national convention, you all were rather testy but I was just waiting for a train down to Rantoul so I got out of the way.
