Seventeen Days?

Give or take:

  • Jim Tinaglia was tending bar in the northwest suburbs when the 1985 Chicago Bears shuffled to their Super Bowl title. Tinaglia hopes the team’s next championship run comes while he’s in the mayor’s office in Arlington Heights — and with the team playing games in his hometown.

“It was crazy fun,” Tinaglia said of his tenure slinging drinks to Bears fans at the Snuggery watering hole in nearby Mount Prospect. “Nothing could be finer than to have that kind of a celebration a few years from now.”

Readers might remember that we posted a rumor that immediately following the NFL Draft (24-thru-26 April) the Bears would announce their intended move to Arlington Heights along with a commitment from the League to host a Super Bowl after the inaugural season, probably around 2027 or 2028.

This would be the crowning un-achievement of Conehead's reign and cement his ranking as the Worst Mayor for Business in Chicago History once and for all.

Makes sense. The team will own it & be able to keep the revenue.
You could tailgate in the morning , watch the game , have a nice dinner, & stay in a nearby hotel. The only drawback is I do believe it’s in Cook County.
You can probably hang out in their entertainment district into the wee hours, Without having to worry about getting your head busted open.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that In 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon

Lori Lightfoot called the Bears bluff and even insulted the franchise by telling them they need to be more relevant past October. What an ignorant and arrogant thing to tell someone. Well, here we are and now hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue are going to be gone.

The Bears were always free to spend their own money to build a stadium or not. They wanted the taxpayers to fund it and be on the hook if the financial future turns south.

The Cardinals were the south side favorite, played at Comiskey Park. They were actually older than the Bears franchise. Some of my uncles were Cards fans, and stayed fans when they moved to St. Louis. Television revenue played a role in the Cards leaving. The Bears and Cards had an agreement that if one of the teams was playing an out of town game and the other played at home, the road game couldn’t be televised, neither team made much money from television, when the rest of the league’s teams were raking it in. The AFL was thinking of putting a team in St. Louis, so the NFL, who had plans to expand to St. Louis and Minnesota, beat them to the punch and gave an ultimatum to both teams, that one of them had to leave Chicago, they twisted some arms and the Cards left.

Former 025th district Chicago copper and now an Arlington Heights copper here.

Most citizens of Arlington Heights and other suburbs do not want the Bears stadium. The Bears owners are billionaires and of course they want us to pay for their stadium.

Politicians and billionaires win. Regular working class citizens lose.

Fuck the bears. Drunk bear fans yell every year that this is yr with a franchise qb. Trubisky No. Fields No. Williams NO. How many drunk fans will be involved in accidents coming back from another loss. Probably killing innocent people. Pass the popcorn. And drop Chicago from name. This ain’t New York fucksticks.

Spot on. The Arlington Heights will have to hire more police and paramedics to deal with the drunk and belligerent leaving the game. The Bears are a financial negative...and the NFL hates (and I mean hates) the police anyway.

The bears already own the land. I see your point so AH is not another Bridgview but if this goes through with a Superbowl, you will be making a ton and the residents of AH wont be paying property tax

Hey Arlington Heights ranger, why didn’t the entirety of Arlington heights vote for an anti-bears stadium mayor a few days ago? Why hasn’t your union went public with a statement of opposition? Why hasn’t the firefighters union? Why hasn’t there been protests?

In the 1960’s I was the 3rd generation to attend St Philomena’s grammar school and my classmate’s dad was college All American Al Brosky who played for the St Louis Cardinals. For a Catholic school in a poor neighborhood we also count Gemini astronaut James McDevitt as an alumnus and a former pastor was Father Gehrig a first cousin of the Yankee slugger. And I’ve lost count of all the coppers that went there as well.

The Snuggery, what a blast from the past! Used to go there after work in the 80's, it was a Rush Street type of joint out in Mt Prospect. Lots of booze and horny chicks. (sigh)

NFL supports hate, remember the crap they wore on the back of there helmets, Pfizer Covid shots. Hard to understand a league that doesnt uphold American values. Supported the kneelers. Not intrested in it or the MLB. When we give in and support they horrible values we are part of the problem.
