The Future of ShotSpotter is....
In Chicago's search for new technology to assist police and paramedics, plans proposed by companies across the country run the gamut, ranging from practical to radical ideas.
Next Friday is the final deadline for companies to submit proposals to the city for new gunshot detection tools after the controversial ShotSpotter system was dismantled last year. Companies have already submitted pitches to the city that the ABC7 I-Team obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Proposals from 15 companies include networks of drones stationed across the city to deploy as "first responders to 911 calls"; an artificial intelligence "deep learning neural network" to monitor both public and privately-owned live video camera feeds across the city; and a plan to position cell phones across the city that are turned into acoustic sensors to detect gunshots.
SoundThinking, the parent company of ShotSpotter, is among the 15 companies that responded to the city's "request for information."
No word on our proposed drones with flame throwers, tasers or Hellfire missiles.
Just remember, your murderer may never be caught, but the crime will be recorded in 4K for posterity....and for that blooper reel at Conehead's City Hall Christmas party

Even if a form of shot spotter comes back, CPD P/Os will bitch and complain about having to drive over and have negative results for shell casings. Yet will complain when they find a dead body in neighborhood that formerly had shotspotter.

I rather have the old fashioned, environmentally friendly and renewable shot spotter,, the one where after they been shot dead eventually someone finds them
Skynet "Hunter-killers" with EMP weaponry should be implemented here. There should be drones flying around the clock identifying and engaging with any suspect that Skynet A.I. deems a threat.

So... will this new technology be able to differentiate between shots fired by white extremists and black/brown gun enthusiasts? Because the whole issue with Shotspotter was that it "targeted" black and brown communities...
