Recognize this parking lot?
That's "Public Safety Headquarters," or 35th and Michigan. Officers were ticketing numerous vehicles in between rain storms yesterday. No idea what the tickets were for (our emailer didn't let us know), but there were a bunch.
No front plates? City stickers? Tints? No idea at all. But if you're working at HQ among all of the brass and the media wandering in and out for pressers all day, then you better be 100% legit each and every day.
Now let's see if they do uniforms and personal grooming standards.

Did some digging today on the new DSI program with some “friends”. Sounded good right? More OT opportunities for everyone? NOPE. So it’s starting just weekends from 1900-0400hrs for the first month to work out the kinks. In June, it will be rolled out in 2 watches, 0800-1700 and 1900-0400. They want two start times because the 0800 start will help days and afternoons. 1900 will help afternoons and midnights. The reason they are doing this is to put ALL OT in the hands of the chiefs and 1st deputies office. Commanders are pretty much going to lose control of how OT is assigned. For example.. in a district, 10 people volunteer to work an RDO on 3rd watch.. in reality, they really only need 4 officers to cover down cars.. who cares right?? Hire them all back and pay the OT to have more cars. So what’s going to happen, is on a weekly basis, every district will send patrol and the 1st deputies office the manpower projections for that week and request DSI cars to supplement. They will then decide through the DSI program how many officers to assign. So if they are only down 2 cars, then that’s all they get. If patrol thinks the district is fine being down only 1 car on the watch then they may not fill it at all. Voluntary RDO OT is gone. If you want to do it, you need to sign up for DSI because it will no longer be allowed in units and districts without the authorization of the 1st deputies office and with the proper approved OT code. The commander can no longer let their watch commanders hire as many people as they want. The only hiring back in districts will be for supervisors and that will be done by a bid system open to all supervisors in that area. Highest in seniority of those that volunteer will win the bid to work that OT. Same with LT’s and all of that will be coordinated by the area deputy chiefs office so no more of just offering OT around the watch for someone to pick up the shift. All will be done by the area and open to all same area supervisors. Voluntary traffic missions are gone. Snelling hates the blue card game and he hates the waste of money on “violence and robbery missions” that bring in 4 blue cards and a few parkers. Tac and unit OT missions are gone and the reasoning is that they have plenty of time to do missions during their regular tour… technically their entire tour IS a anti violence mission so they don’t need them doing it on OT. All Bureaus will be affected with OT being handled by the Chiefs office who will report to the first deputies office. Narcotics, gangs, intel, fugitive, Detectives, academy, caps everything.. it’s all getting changed and squeezed in all places. Gonna get ugly..
I am a civilian. Last week around 8am there were three cars with boots and tickets on them right outside my door. And then even more on other streets in my neighborhood. Some just had tickets others had boots and tickets, it was odd to see so many.

Ugh. This has turned into such a ghetto department. Wouldn't be surprised if we see the bootman taking care of business in the HQ and district parking lots in the near future. (Our co-workers' Cadillacs, BMWs and Benzes with all the tinted windows and shiny rims are gonna look su-weet with a yellow boot on the front wheel.) At future roll calls, will they be handing out the outstanding water bills and child support notices before or after they hand out the honorable mentions?

One of the perks to retirement is I no longer purchase city stickers for 2 of my cars. Those 2 cars I park in the driveway off the public way and if I need to go somewhere in the city and need to park on the public way I take the wife's car which we still purchase a sticker for. It's a beautiful thing!

Well the first car pic is obviously not in a regular spot. People make up there own spots in the lot and are warned of ticketing multiple times. Yet they still do it.

Retired six years ago. I moved to city where there are no city stickers. A state where there is no state income tax. No speed cameras or people writing you parking tickets here. I have never been asked if I would like to purchase a bag to carry my groceries. The governor here is about to pass a school choice law that will give each student a 10, 000. dollar stipend if their parents want to put them in a private school. That figure is what the state allocates every student, so NO, they don't pay your whole bill. If you have three kids in a parochial school the state is spotting you thirty grand. Now I ask you...WHAT HAS THE STATE OF ILLINOIS EVER DONE THAT WAS EVER GOOD FOR THE TAXPAYER?

It's amazing and frankly embarrassing at how many of out peers cant get their shit together when it comes to their vehicles. Buy a city sticker, put on a front plate, and dont tint your windows. Life will be a breeze if you do...it costs more money to pay the fine, pay a late fee, get tints removed, and take a day or two off.

I got pinched by Denny Ryan on a city sticker violation. Bought a new car and transferred my recently purchased city sticker and waited in the mail for it for a month and was eventually told it was at my local currency exchange after he wrote me up. Caught a day for ignorance on my part.

I had to go to the medical section the other day and there were no spots available. I just had knee surgery and had to walk almost two blocks on crutches. When I got into the medical section there was nobody waiting or being seen. So those cars parked in the medical section area were doing something else. These a$$h01es need to be the ones ticketed!!!

It’s about time they do that for supervisors. I work in a district and get forced to work extension of tours to cover other watches shortage, while I know there are people that would actually want to work it for the OT. I’m lucky to be in a desirable district. I cant believe there’s nothing in place tho to allow that to happen.

The first day 35th street opened there weren’t enough parking spots, and that was before CFD moved in. I will never understand why the city will never put an over abundance of parking spots at their buildings. I’m retired so I’ve not been to the new academy. Any word if there are enough spots there?

HQ is run by Civilians who all came in under alot of Federal Grant money and all have assigned parking spots. Lots of Civilian cuts coming to HQ, plenty of spots should open.
I remember they did the same thing to us at the old HQ building at 1121 S. State. A supervisor walked around with a PO and pointed out the cars to write. Nice to know some things haven't changed very much. Every police officer should have a city sticker, period.

I don’t even understand how it gets to this point. Aren’t people getting days handed to them for unpaid tickets, no city sticker, expired registration anymore? I always took a furlo around my birthday. One year, I completely forgot I had to renew in person that year. A week before I was supposed to come back from furlo, I got a call from my watch sergeant telling me “renew” or you can’t come back to work. Same with city stickers, tickets & water bills. I recall the days when the front office had a list on the ready. Yeah, it was annoying but it sure got you to move your ass on stuff you put off.

You can ticket cars in a private lot (ex. Jewel) for fire lane and handicap parking violations regardless. If the owner/agent signs a parking complaint, you can ticket for illegally parking in their lot.
10:16 sounds right to me. Just like the evening SDI cars were deployed to districts and then redeployed downtown as necessary if a teen trend popped up. Rest assured they do the same thing again. Love all the police, I think I am lawyer type here. Read the ordinances, most offense are only a crime on the public way. The wheel tax requirement is one of the few. The owner's permission does not change the law. Most of these tickets went to the non-reserved spot civilians anyways. Issuing a ticket for tints requires an investigation, what if the owner has a medical exemption? What instrument was used to measure the tints, is is valid, and does the operator having training?
I think Cat Woman and the Riddler had slanted hideouts like that as well.

There is plenty of parking at HQ. More than half the lot is either reserved for bosses and their besties / or side piece. Then you have all the bs reserved parking for the document unit’s personnel cars and all the department vans taking up two spaces each cus fuck everyone else who’s not taken care of.
