Shooting

Civil lawsuit, COPA "investigation," and Conehead's checkbook are at the ready!

  • A man was shot and critically wounded at a River North hotel after police responding to a call of a man with a knife fired shots Monday afternoon.

Officers saw a man with a knife in the 100 block of West Hubbard Street, but said when they tried to stop him, he fled. The officers chased the man into the Courtyard by Marriott hotel at 30 E. Hubbard St., where they tried to deescalate the situation, Chicago police said.

Several officers tried to incapacitate the man with Tasers but failed, they said. The man then turned toward officers while holding the knife, and two officers fired shots about 2:45 p.m., they said. A weapon was recovered at the scene.

We're only being sarcastic with the opening line up top. Of course, the Officers did everything correctly. Unfortunately, people will claim it wasn't enough.

On the plus side, no one got stabbed and the only person to blame for the asshole taking a few rounds is - of course - the asshole.

An excellent job by the Officers. We're just sorry that you're still going to have to go through the political rigamarole that follows all legal and justifiable shootings nowadays.

Anyone look at the newly released vision 2025 report by snelling today? Things that will be addressed in 2025. Manpower will be restructured to ensure more bodies in the districts. From what a bird tells me, that will be the 12hr day conversation. Number 2, medical studies and changes to the medical roll policy. And 3rd, OT. Every district and Unit will get a set number of dollars to spend. All will be monitored and tracked to the penny. If your unit goes over, accountability will kick in and OT shut down. No more throwing money at crime. I think they will throw manpower at crime and come up with 12hr days.

When you run after an ASSHOLE with a weapon perhaps just run a little bit slower.
Hell, maybe you pulled a muscle or injured yourself in some other way while running.

It wasn’t an excellent job at all !! They CHASED the man with a knife. A clear violation of general orders ! Do not Chase ! On foot or in vehicle. They will and should take time. And for the people who read this and respond “ what are they to do just let him run away” yes ! Absolutely that’s the point let the city explain why we have this ridiculous general order.

OT. Picture and story in today’s Tribune showing Fire Fighters Union president with fist raised marching with Stacey Gates and teachers union.

https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/04/08/mayor-brandon-johnson-firefighters-contract-standoff/

With this caption

“ Chicago Firefighters Local 2 President Pat Cleary and Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates march toward Whitney Young High School as dozens of teacher and firefighter union members join forces for fair contracts on March 24, 2025, in Chicago. (Antonio Perez/Chicago Tribune) ”

Fire Fighters should be ashamed. Just union whores if they’re in bed with those communist bastards. But what do you expect, FF went on strike for months back in early 80s. But they’re heroes, 911, 911!

A CPS tragedy was avoided last week when POs apprehended a Foreman HS student coming back to school to shoot up the place. The possible shooter took an Uber home to get his weapon

https://x.com/CWBChicago/status/1908593341526319177?t=me_O4csQiY6R6XPiLZBKGg&s=19

Who needs cops in schools, right?

Foreman has been a cesspool of violence since before Blago went there.

The only things ever good about the Foreman neighborhood were the onion rings at Fantastiks and taffy apples at Andrew's taffy apples, both long since gone.

Glad the officers are ok physically ,

off topic but when will the Robbery / Carjacking task force TH two year minions learn a lesson , they’re still chasing cars with clusterfuckers almost at least once weekly . Last week the shit show came into 001 and a 001st district copper almost got run over by the offender assisting the shit show of a task force . 001 terminated after that and the task force continued chasing the car on the new encrypted ban they only use , they no longer do “ missions “ on CW 6 but now they share info to the zones late causing a officer safety issue . The way they drive it will cause someone to get hurt or worse one day .

PLEASE do not categorize all fireman like this! Me, being a fireman, do not support this alliance or whatever they are calling it! And I know for a fact 95% of firemen DO NOT SUPPORT this move. Ask them!

The Union Prez did this without a vote by the membership behind the backs of the firemen. People heavily involved with the union (not on the board, but a part of a committee) did not know this happened until the news article came out.

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not think firemen want this!

These Officers will likely be thrown under the bus via “Sanctity of Human Life” “Deescalation” “Foot Chase Policy” and some other terrible Consent Decree style policies that this Department Operates under now. Also, always remember that our tasers are next to useless during cold weather season. That option only seems to work under ideal conditions and sometimes not even then.

Does anyone use mace/pepper spray anymore? I'm not suggesting here that these officers should have used mace against a knife (but they did try the taser at a knife fight).

Curious because I don't hear of mace being used much anymore and I remember it was very effective when used in the days before the taser. I also thought the baton and asp were good too but you had to get close to deploy these. I remember a few times de-escalating a situation by pulling out the baton and resting it on my shoulder menacingly.

According to the 2025 Strategic plan the medical will be drastically changing. My guess the city will just do whatever, the unions will file a grievance, probably win years down the road. Most people on this job can't be in a no pay status for a day let alone a few months. My experience is the city just does whatever they want, if an arbitrator reverses them they still "won" just for trying. Also, you can not get punitive damages for contract violations.
