• Former Illinois Gov. George Ryan, who is heralded for halting death penalties in Illinois — but later served time on a corruption conviction — has died at the age of 91.

  Ryan, who served on the Illinois General Assembly and as Illinois secretary of state, House speaker, lieutenant governor and ultimately governor, is best known for declaring a state moratorium on the death penalty in 2000 that eventually led to its abolition.

  But he’s also remembered for a federal corruption probe that netted him six years in federal prison in 2007, stemming from the illegal sale of commercial driver’s licenses — actions that ultimately were linked to the 1994 deaths of six children belonging to Scott and Janet Willis. After five years in federal prison, Ryan served seven months of home confinement.

Part and parcel of the Illinois combine, Ryan was as crooked as the day was long, taking money for decades in whatever position he was to be working in. The Sun Times helpfully leaves out that one of the licenses his office happened to sell went to an illegal alien whose ineptness killed the six Willis children in a fiery wreck. 

George was ahead of his time in putting illegal aliens ahead of Illinoisans.

Finally tripped up by the feds, he attempted to influence the process by portraying himself as some great humanitarian, emptying Death Row of some truly heinous criminals, invoking the specter of Jon Burge. Years later, it was documented that much of the "evidence" Ryan used to empty Death Row was manufactured by crooked professors, coerced by female university students and touted by progressive left wing liars in the media.

We'll be adding him to the list of graves we'll be pissing on if we happen to be passing through town.
