Scandal Dragging Out
This one is going to take a while:
A woman shot in her leg while getting a ride to her South Side home.
A mother and son who dodged bullets as they tried to thwart a car break-in.
Another woman who, after her car was stolen, learned it had been used in a shooting, with a bullet cracking its windshield and shell casings on the floor.
Each of their stories has the same twist: The same Glock handgun was used in all three crimes.
That happened even though that gun was supposed to have been destroyed.
The Slum Times has their teeth in this one, and it's going to keep going for a while. A sergeant that was "in charge" of the gun buyback was suspended for a single day, but that's probably because his electronic signature is listed as the last person touching the gun. The sergeant is almost certainly taking the fall for the actual thief, and the Department is going to claim "someone was held accountable!" at the close of this investigation.
But there's an entire "team" of people who moved the gun from the sergeant's possession to the supposedly secure holding locker / safe / room before placing it in a box / milk crate and putting it in a squad car trunk to either the District or ERPS where the switch was discovered.

One of the many reasons some may have turned down the sergeant’s promotion.
And that thief still wears a badge ..... can't even trust coworkers.
The sergeant is appealing the one day suspension and will likely have it overturned.
The Slum Times should expect more of this with lowered hiring standards. Cover that, Slum times.
Why assume sargent was not involved? Was he or she a DEI merit pick?
Well let’s bring everyone that was at the GunTurn in in for a Formal statement. Maybe even polygraphs? And then see where that leads us? If they all keep the faith and nothing turns up. Each officer that was present catches some days? Seems fair since we have CR numbers with no complainant, no sworn affidavit and the loss of a weapon, served on officers all the time for lost or unsecured weapons. You will see why the weapon turn ins are a problem that finally needs a scapegoat to punish.
Then see if anyone wants to go to a weapons turn in again?
Sorry, but if I get hit by a weapon that was turned in to CPD and it does not kill me. I will make it my mission to find each jackass that was present and turn their world upside down.
The same slum times that posts here asking for tips emailed to them. They gotta eat too. More clicks means more $.
no doubt the demographics of the ones responsible are not good for the liberal agenda
Who watches the watchers?
Nobody apparently.
As a Forner Superintendent famously said a few years ago: I have more questions than answers.
As a Former Superintendent famously said a few years ago: I have more questions than answers.
Either way, this ends as another lawsuit the City loses.
Are you a DEI hire? Let me know after you figure out how to spell sergeant.
Your reading comprehension is only exceeded by your ability to spell.
was it a yoyo relative??
Two of the young officers involved in this were children of former and retired CPD bosses. Nothing to see here. And of course they’ve moved on to units
Can't trust your coworkers ? Why has something changed ? Try leaving some of your personal effects on the locker room bench or in the car at the end of your tour . What are the chances that it will be returned to you ?
Probably a hack sergeant that gave his password to his team so they can approve shit when he is out with his side piece or on some bullshit.
Stealing the weapon is bad enough. I could kinda understand it if it were a real beauty like some I've seen at turn-ins was pilfered. However, to steal it and then sell it and allow it to wind up out on the street in gangster hands is high crime!
Poor Larry. Apparently he is the only one in the entire city who doesn't know who fired the shot at Sox park. But then again he was never the police. No wonder the working officers have zero respect for this pretend political hack and his posse of second rate, dimwitted Merit butt licking yes men & ladies.
You “kinda” understand stealing a “real beauty?” You are a true dickhead. I certainly hope you’re not the police.

Jeezus….who let Billy Ray Cletus use the internet again!?
They stole my shower flip flops years ago from on top of my locker. I guess I should have warned them that I had athlete’s foot.
Maybe the person who turned in the gun was an up close magician.
I mean if you’re gonna risk herpes, you “kinda” understand as long as she’s a “real beauty” hooker.
Me fail english? That’s unpossible.
Maybe they just tossed them in the garbage because they were funky.
I saw that movie back in the 80's.
I think it was called:
Less Than Zero.
I agree.
If someone turns in some rare, one in a million firearm it is a shame that it would be melted down.
If some copper took it home and insured it never would up on the street I doubt anyone would care.
Frankly I would prefer for cops to take home SAAs, 1911s, S&Ws, Colts, Brownings Walthers and other old school classics rather than have them melted down.
When some random , run of the mill chunk of Tupperware like a Glock finds its way to the street to kill again, that is an issue.
Just admit it, 10:19:52. You’re a thief.
