Could This Happen Here?

Frankly, we're surprised it hasn't yet:

  • At least some Boston city employees who expected to receive their first paycheck of the month on Thursday will now not be paid until after the holiday weekend, according to a member of the City Council.

Sam Dillon, president of the Boston firefighters' union, said he heard from some members who were not paid. He wants an investigation and is asking the city to pick up any overdraft fees incurred by employees.

City employees were sent a memo stating, "We are aware that the availability of funds may be impacted by different banks' processing schedules" related to the holiday. "Most of the deposits went through yesterday," Mayor Michelle Wu said on Friday. "Some even came through earlier today."

Yeah, and some didn't.

Everyone does Direct Deposit now. The last guy we remember not having it retired two years before we did. And if you have Direct Deposit, you probably have some automated payments set up for various bills - gas, electric, mortgage, car, etc.

And now you're on the hook for bounced checks?

Has the FOP ever considered a remedy for this? We were never one to live check-to-check, but some aren't as lucky as we were with a decent financial plan, no crushing student debt and a cushion we built up over time.

That cushion is considered, by those with a brain, standard budgeting procedure.

1 weekly paycheck = housing

Next weekly paycheck = all utilities

Next weekly paycheck = food and everything else

Last weekly paycheck = the cushion

Even squirrels know how to save their nuts.

The last dipshit without direct deposit retired in Jan/Feb.

There’s an even funnier story behind his retirement.
“I don’t check my email!”
Never filled out the proper paperwork to retire.
Landed up really fucking himself out of benefits!

I dont do auto pay... i'll push it out when im happy with the service, and that incentivizes the vendor to work for my money... not for me to work to get it back.

everyone knows what the timing is to ensure timely payment - run payroll a day early... that they didn't means you're owed interest or just leave early and don't tell them... they don't care, why Should you?

oh boy, I just hope the city is always able to pay those "violence interrupters" because you know how good of a job they do stopping all those shootings and murders (sarcasm)

The city never pays right. Just ask anyone who gets promoted, it takes months for them to get paid correctly. Never get overpaid mind you, always underpaid.

Years ago many of the older guys wouldn't do direct deposit so they could hide overtime money from their wives. A buddy of mine Tom, who was always working OT looked in the checkbox to see of he missed one. Lo and behold, he found a check in his name even though he couldn't remember working. An old timer once told me that if you ever get a check from the city for anything, run to the bank and cash it. Tom cashed it and forgot about it. Another guy on the watch didn't get a check for Special and called Finance and they told him it was issued in mistake to Tom and to just ask him for the cash. This went nowhere. Money already spent. Finance issued another check to the unpaid PO and said they would contact Tom. They never did. The guy that beefed about not getting paid continued to insist that he was owed the money from Tom even though Finance replaced the check and he got paid. That argument also went nowhere...

Cook County hasn't been able to send out the second installment of real estate bills because of a failing software upgrade. They'll soon be out of money and writing IOUs instead of paychecks. The public sector employees are people who can't make it in the private sector.

I mean, I can’t say for sure, but I’m going out on a limb and saying a majority of the Boston fire department isn’t voting Democrat. Dumb fuck.

How about the City when they took the CIT stipend away from those who didn’t answer a survey last September? The email came out title “CIT survey. “.
The tittle itself made one believe that it was optional If you didn’t answer yes or no that you wanted to be designated as the first to volunteer as a CIT officer, it defaulted to “no” instead of letting you remain what you chose initially. And by not answering, you lost your stipend. The FOP hasn’t had much resolve with this. Coming up on a year

My wife went to jury duty once at 26 and Cal. Sat there all day long for nothing and they sent her a $15 check in the mail a few weeks later. Well, it bounced. Check was from Cook County with Preckwinkles name on it. We ended up getting a $25 bounce check fee! And good luck finding anyone from Cook County that knows what the hell to do with this. We just ate it and told ourselves we would never go again, even if we were called. Pathetic.

The Sun Times has a similar piece today about how CPS is scrambling for their back pay money too. CFD now on year 4 of no raises and a back pay bill of about $100 million. I honestly don't think they have the money anymore.

Mayor Wu of Boston is a Chicago democrat who relocated to Boston. This should answer everyone’s question of incompetence.

Why I wanted paper checks? I wanted the treasurer, who thought of the city's money to be his own, to be just as miserable in handing me the check as I was earning it.

The day we stop getting paid is the day we march downtown with torches and start tar and feathering the people we elected. The villagers have had enough of being lied to, bamboozled, and deceived.

WuWu, does she look like a person that even knows how to breathe?? The blank stare as if she was hit in the forehead with a bat.

Testifying in front of Congress she basically looked stunned and then asked to explain her position which made no sense. Of course she is from Chicago, of course she is a Dem and of course she has no idea on how to manage a government. No surprise here that they can't pay their bills. California, N.Y. Houston, Chicago get ready because the faucet in D.C. has been shut off by the Orange Man. I'm not sure you can direct deposit an I.O.U.?

Do you, think for one instant, that Fatass or Conehead care if you get paid?? They are immune from your problems. THERE IS NO FUCKIN MONEY!

The problem is most police don't vote. True fact. So, all the bitching an moaning "keep voting demo-crat" means nothing if they don't vote.
