There's still that stretch of Indian Summer after the first full frost.
Nice gesture. Kicker would be the officer telling the homeless guy to stay as long as he wants. No police will come if called to kick him out.

I won’t mention that sergeant’s name because of the nuts that are focusing on LEOs these days. I remember him coming on in the 80s. We worked districts in the same area but never at the same times. I was a supervisor and later he. In later years we ran into each other usually at details or the area. I remember him being affable, humorous and confident. Nice story. Good luck to him where ever he is!

Pritzker & Johnson comments at end. And anti ICE press conference. I watched the video and did not see the Border Agents “disappear” anyone nor kidnap grandmothers in to vans or arrest poor flower vendors. Some of those Agents were not wearing masks and some appeared to be Hispanic. Leave it to WGN to interview only liberal loons commenting on there is no reason for the Border Patrol to be here.
I think the BP walk through was to gauge the public sentiment, and best of all to continue the gastric and mental distress of Gov Pritzker and Mayor BLM Brandon, the two balloon heads that want us to keep supporting illegal criminal aliens with our tax dollars.

Off topic but interesting. In 2019 40 weapons were recovered in Chicago with illegal machine-gun conversion devices. That number jumped to 604 in 2024 according to federal statistics.

Retired in 2018 and moved to a real nice part of Texas. We stop at our local bar and got to know a few nice people from the area. Texas is a law and order state, most people have a great respect for police officers. Houston police were just given a 36 percent raise over the next three years by the current mayor, whom the police union has praised. I have explained to our friends that in nearly 33 years on the job i have never locked anyone up for commiting a theft because they were hungry. Unless you call stuffing a couple of T bone steaks, a bottle of Remy Martin and some lobster tails down your pants "feeding your children ". It's more like your feeding your dope dealers children since they like to eat well. The "stealing to eat" excuse is a fucking urban legend. A myth. If I had ever run into anyone shoplifting a loaf of bread, bologna and a gallon of milk, I would know he was hungry and would have paid for the stuff myself. Never happened. The good sergeant in the picture did the right thing. This job can be a struggle to keep some empathy and your awareness of the human condition. I'm hoping that sergeant buys a lottery ticket that makes him rich. Good luck and good health to him.
That Sgt’s act of kindness is an old story but still a good one. Worked with him back in the day in 020 and ran into him throughout our long careers. Always was a good guy and good copper. Hope you’re doing well and living the good life BH.

This is nothing new or unusual, cops buy homeless people food and other stuff all the time. We are truly a caring bunch for the innocent, the mentally ill, the young and old and the hurt and the sad. We don’t do these things for the credit because we know these acts are rarely recognized or publicized we do it because we are good people with good character doing a difficult job.

Our Extra-Large governor is disgusting and an embarrassment. RFK Jr. is a better example of a leader. How could Illinois vote this redundant pile of protoplasm in???
Worked for BH and is truly a gentle giant. He did things like that on a regular basis, not to mention giving his old coats away to the homeless in the winter. Not in it for the fame, just how he is . He still hustles jobs for something to do- and he still helps people when he feels the need. A truly good person !!
Once upon a time, I was working the wagon in 018. We got a call of an offender trying to leave the TGI Fridays without paying.
It was a 40 something F/1 who really seemed down and out.
I asked the owner what the bill was, and he said $38.00.
I told him I only had a 20 on me, and would that clear things up.
He replied in the affirmative, and the woman was told not to come in again. She thanked me, and was on her way.
Owner thanked us, as he recovered some of the cost.
Guess who wasn’t good with it. Our fearless LT. He threatened a CR number on us for inattention to duty for not arresting her.
I’m so glad I’m gone.
