The retiree representative on the Pension Board passed away last month. We heard there's going to be a special election to fill the vacancy, but we've heard next to nothing about any candidates running.
Last election, the FOP played an outsized role in who was running for the retiree spot.

This election was posted on the pension website after the passing of Tom Lonagian. If the members would check on the website occasionally, (you, me, us) would stay informed. Keep in mind though, the retired trustee position is a non-paying one. Having said this, the pension haters need not apply. Craw back under you rock and be thankful your receiving a retirement benefit.

through Friday, January 9, 2026.
No hoopla this time because the Pension board, AKA FOP, was hoping no one would notice and they could push “their” candidate in unnoticed and uncontested/business as usual.
On or about Monday, January 12, 2026, the first business day following the last day for filing
nominating petitions, all petitions so filed shall be open to public inspection in the office of the
Retirement Board, and the sufficiency of any petition may be challenged in writing on or before
4:30pm on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the second day following the last day for filing such petitions.
In addition, any candidate may, in writing, withdraw his or her petition on or before 4:30pm on
Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
The online/telephonic election shall take place from on or about 12:01 am on Thursday, January 29,
2026 through on or about 11:59 pm on Monday, February 9, 2026.
FOP will have nothing to do with this it’s a retirement position that’s open. Last time it was for active officers which FOP was involved which they should be.

The FOP chosen candidate(s) running to finish TL ‘s term on the Pension Board is reportedly hand-selected by JRAT. Petitions were signed in November and December weeks before notice of a special election. TL knew he was terminal and still forced to run by JRAT. This was strategically planned by
JRat so he can take over the pension fund, receive paid salaries, but, most of all get his corrupt hands on the $13 million dollar gift reserve.
Don’t forget the candidate(s) JRat is endorsing all have the same MO with financial troubles and the same negative history with CPD.
Retirees should do their homework and check Cook County Circuit Court records. There are serious red flags, including past wage garnishments, foreclosures, repossessions of cars and boats, lawsuits for not paying credit cards and credit union loans and other lawsuits costing the city money.
There are also long-standing questions about judgment and accountability while on the job.This is about trust. If someone can’t manage their own responsibilities, fired for nine months and don’t have a clean record with CPD, or respected among the rank and file, they shouldn’t be managing our pensions.
Don’t vote for hand-picked FOP insiders. Vote for integrity, independence, and a clean record. This Special Election is costing the fund well over $80,000. Why??? Beyna rushed this election to keep his $125,000 job as deputy executive director. He needs to live up to his wife’s standards!!!
I'm sure that FOP already had petitions signed & at the ready before Tom passed away. With all the shenanigans going on at FOP 7, it'd be wise to keep their "chosen" candidate off this board.

Do not vote for anybody who is backed by the FOP. They don’t have our best interests in mind when deciding who to back for the pension board. If you have not gone through the disability process and in front of the board, then ask an officer who did about their experience with the board and the FOP backed board members.

For everyone screaming and hollering about the gold braid bill everyone seems to forget how the gold braid bill came about. When the gold stars tried to get the bill passed it failed. In fact, it failed several times. However, the bill got passed after the bill included Detectives, Gang Crimes Specialist, and Youth Officers. For years I have heard and read retirees scream and holler about getting rid of the bill. Be careful what you ask for because if the bill is taken away many non-gold stars of are going to be effective.

The endorsed FOP candidate was asked to run by people from Area 5. Area 5 cares about the pension and stepped up. This was absolutely not an FOP rigged thing. Quite the opposite.

Yes, it’s true about Eugene Roy. As a disabled Sgt I witnessed this firsthand like many of us. Roy tried to take credit away from Ro on numerous occasions and even attempted to insert himself into my own disability case and others. At the time, I was a sergeant and already had serious issues with him, which resulted in a CR number.
I personally watched Ro work year after year, uncovering and investigating the Fund’s wasteful spending and advocating for disabled officers’ cases. She actually did the hard, unglamorous work while he was often suited up front and center, doing news interviews and claiming the spotlight. Is his reason for running is to get his name off the DO NOT HIRE LIST for the City of Chicago after cutting a deal to retire. He even attempted to take credit for the audit report going to the news media first before anyone knew it was her work.
The truth is, he’s been riding on her coattails for years, and now he’s running for a trustee position that she has truly earned and deserves. Shame on him.
I don't think Roe is running. One of her closest friends said she will not run due to family consideration. Her daughters are dead set against her running.
