Term Limits? Age Limts?
Former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said this week that he wants a mandatory retirement age of 75 for people running the federal government.
Emanuel made the comments at two events in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday — a conversation with reporters hosted by The Christian Science Monitor, and an event primarily focused on education policy hosted by the Center for American Progress, a progressive think tank.
The former mayor, 66, said rule should apply to all three branches of the federal government — including the president, members of Congress, and all judges.
Emanuel said he would include the rule as part of a greater effort toward ethics reform.
There ought to be term limits and mandatory retirements across the board for all manner of political animal. For far too long, these leeches build power and then shut out people with newer and (sometimes) better ideas.
In fact, there ought to be a limit to years of "public service" altogether that would shut out Rahm immediately - aside from World's Clumsiest Deli Slicer, he's never held a real job in his life that wasn't attached to politics, so his meter ran out years ago.
At least he isn't suggesting what his brother did and start killing old people once they hit seventy-five, though we'd make a few exceptions.

Rahm’s brother Dr Ezekiel J. Emanuel MD, an oncology physician, is even scarier than Rahm. I saw him being interviewed on TV. His belief is that once you reach 75 your body is worn out and that you should be treated for pain but not proactive or preventable medicine for any disease like cancer, flu, diabetes, and any other malady that any person may get in their lifetime. If someone breaks their hip, there should be no surgery but just treated for pain. ( If someone broke their hip and had no surgery they would be confined to a bed probably in a nursing home until they died. He said that health care is just too expensive as you reach 75 and when he reaches 75 he will deny such proactive health care, he is 68 now, we will see!!!
He is an oncologist which is a physician who mainly treats cancer. Anybody who is older should steer clear of this macabre quick.
Forty nine people in Congress are 75 and older. Too bad he wasn’t the doctor to Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Danny Davis, Bernie Sanders, Kan Schakowsky, Dick Durbin and Mad Maxine Waters to name a few. Rahm is testing the waters for a political run for President or Congress.
An interesting listing of both federal, state, county and city elected meeting this criteria would be amusing.
The issue is the cumulative building of power of long term incumbents. Term limits not age limits. 2 terms and no government pension. That’s a great start.

We already have term limits-- in the form of a "no" vote. If an elected official is doing a good, honest job, then he shouldn't be forced out. When Sheriff Andy Taylor was running for re-election, he flat out said "Well, I've been sheriff for a long time, and either you're satisfied with the job I'm doing or you're not."

Dang, Zeke... Down here in Florida, I'm five months from my 85th birthday, with no health problems at all. I haven't lost a bit of strength, and I'm still working as a freelance editor of books. Age or term limits on federal elected officials, as well as a mandatory retirement age for federal judges, would all require a constitutional amendment. Tiny Dancer knows this. He's just blowing smoke, trying to score some risk-free points with the voters.

Ditto, retired early from another dept in a buyout, had to go the place was collapsing, and spent years and big bucks working for insurance until I was Medicare eligible. And he bragged about it.
