The Illinois official whose agency issued potentially thousands of illegal licenses to truckers, received more than $300,000 in donations from the trucking industry in recent years. The Illinois Secretary of State, Alexi Giannoulias, is in a standoff with the Trump Transportation Department over its review of the state’s commercial drivers licenses (CDLs) which found that 1-in-5 licenses issued by Giannoulias’ office were done so illegally.
Giannoulias, a Democrat who is reportedly considering a run for Chicago mayor, is facing scrutiny over his office’s role in issuing those licenses from the Trump administration after a series of high profile big rig crashes across the country that exposed issues in how states issue non-domiciled CDLs to foreign citizens, or in some cases, to illegal immigrants.
In Illinois, the U.S. Transportation Department found the Secretary of State’s Office, through the Director of Driver Services, issued illegal CDLs, in some cases, to individuals who have failed to provide evidence of lawful presence, let alone proficiency in managing big rigs.
He already cost taxpayers $383 million from the Broadway bank failure.
Alexi better hope there isn't a Willis family out there somewhere.

Sadly the Willis is someone else's F-UP! How can anyone who doesn't speak English Get a drivers license??? Let alone a CDL. My opinion is that they do exactly as the Uber & Lyft drivers do. They send in one D.L., proof of insurance etc. then they immigrant family members who don't speaka da English. I have personally gotten into several Ubers & Lyfts where the driver looked at me, pointed at his/her phone & grunted. What they want is for me to put in the address. If they can't speak English then they must be looking at their phones counting streets since they can't read the street signs. Then thankfully you get to your destination & you try to beef your issue to the companies but neither of them allow any bad news to be sent all you can do is give a low number...... you can't even give them a zero! The system won't allow it. Next ride ask to their drivers license... they may show it to you but it is never them. Never!!! Do these companies ever question how the car & driver can work 24/7/365 with one driver???? This country just seems to be sinking like a building built on a swamp. Remember Trump actually had to put it in law that English is the official language of the USA. You think Mexico, Britain, Argentina etc. actually had to do the same. NO MORE DEMORATS!!!(sorry for the caps SCC)

The SOS filed for a $3.5 million grant to rewrite the CDL trucker exam in Spanish. However, that exam is already offered in Spanish so why all of this money to do it again ? That also begs the question that in order to get a CDL you have to be able to read and write in English so why a test in a foreign language ? Nothing but catering to the Hispanic vote and the hell with the safety of others on the road. Political pandering at any cost.

The current Sec of State office sucks! Appointments are needed for just about everything and of course the rudest employees in the state. The security guard at the Lake Zurich location likes to berate the elderly who dont know they need an appointment telling them to leave and make an appointment while the place is half empty and no one is at the counter. I asked the guard for the old timer why they dont take walk ins when they are slow and he said he doesnt answer questions and I should leave too. Luckily I had an appointment so I stayed and told him to lose the attititude. I asked for a supervisor and she couldnt care less about his conduct. No way the Greek gets my vote!

Reports indicate the suspect was using an alias and false paperwork, and had previously been deported from the United States. He was charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
Once illegals get drivers licenses, they can apply for concealed carry permits.
I also helped a dear elderly with their annual renewal. What a horror show. Just to get an appointment took several days, at least 16 hours, using 2 phones, and once, getting up to call at 6:30 am.
The 6:30 am call took me to an Indian call center who told me to call back at 10:30 am. Online was worse as we could only get an appointment in watseka, hours away. I was always extremely polite. Your tax dollars are supporting India and that support line is useless.
We started months early this year, and were told we couldn’t book an appointment until a week prior to the actual license expiration.
Online bookings were no different, and worse.
Last year, when we finally got the appointment and visited the center, we arrived 1/2 hour early, we had 1/2 hour wait in line (no handicap accommodation, but those in line and the staff were super helpful).
We spent the next 2 hours shuffling through the process. What a waste of everyone’s time, especially the elderly. Their days are very much numbered.
A letter to Alexa’s gerkoulis with suggested process improvements, went unanswered. Guess he was too busy primping for the cameras.
Now there’s a walk in senior center in Skokie. Skokie? That’s an hour drive away and full of libtards. Bet they turn us back as well.
Oh and the call in line, NEVER goes to the actual location you wish to visit. Pray whomever answers the phone is willing to be kind.
Also fyi: If you live north do not visit Deerfield. It’s dreadful. They were very, very, very cruel to me during my simple renewal attempt a few years ago. It was so bad, someone quietly shared, “you didn’t deserve that treatment.” Do not agree to organ donation. That’s another scam.
Pick your renewal location wisely.

The next few elections are going to determine whether we can climb out of this cesspool or just wallow like pigs in our own filth. Fair is fair. I recently had to renew my license, taking all the tests. I called for an appointment and was treated well. In and out in under an hour. The SOS office is better run today than in years past.
One of the great things about living in Indiana is I don’t have to visit the IL SOS anymore. I mean you talk about a miserable bunch of people who hate you and their job. When I first moved here I went to the BMV to get a new Drivers license and plates. Everyone I dealt with was friendly and professional. I was in shock, I told the girl helping me about my observation and she said everyone from Illinois says that. Been there many times since, same demeanor. One other plus, no jury duty notices to one of the Cook County branches or the God forsaken Daley Center.

My experience in dealing with his office to replace a license on a car whith a transferred vanity plate did not easily care for my simple needs nor was it one bit pleasant. he won't be getting my vote that's for sure!

In indiana, where I chose to live, they check for illegals at the weigh stations and getting them off the road. However, an illegal killed someone the other day with an indiana DL. Pretty sure whomever issued it is crapping their pants waiting on a knock.

I am a retiree who is 78 yrs old. I am recovering from a stroke, walk with a cane, and don't move fast. I recently went to a S of S Office to renew my driver's license, and I too did not know that one needed an appointment. I walked in the office and saw that there were not many people being service. I asked if there was a chance that I could renew the license then. A supervisor said, " No, go back home and make an appointment". I turned around and went home. (Fortunately, I live 4 miles from the facility} I got right on the computer and learned that there were openings all day long. I made an appointment for an hour later and drove back to the office. I walked in and the same supervisor saw me walked up to me and said," You again, I told you, you need an appointment." I looked at her and replied I have an appointment. She took my name and learned that I did in fact made an appointment. After renewing the license, I walked over to this supervisor and stated, " won't it been easier if you allowed me to renew the license earlier seeing that you had a slow day. Her reply was "rules are rules" and walked away. I think they could come up with a system that if a citizen walked into a S of S Office and it was a slow day, one could use a computer to obtain an appointment for that office. I understand it might not be instantaneously but within a reasonable time period. I am sorry but if he runs the S of S Office like this, God help us as how he would run the city. No way I would vote for him.
The Chameleon Trucking Companies know that Illinois is an easy place to buy a CDL - but the bigger crime is the Fake Trucking schools in the area that are Diploma Mills that pass drivers for $$$$. Alexi knows all about the "Truck Driving School" scam and does nothing about it.

One time went to renew my license at SOS facility in the south suburbs, and as it turned out it I had to take the written test this time. I’m dealing with an F/1 working behind the counter, speaking to her in English. She gave me my test sheet and a pencil and I go to sit down and take the test. I start reading and all of the questions are in Polish. Went back and pointed this out to her and she replied, “Oh, you looked like you were Polish.” WTF

Six of their children died following a preventable accident because the truck driver paid a bribe to get a CDL and that bribe went to George Ryan's campaign fund. And the hispanic driver didn't speak English. But articles don't say whether he was here legally.
