Pension Board Election Results

The election results were released:

  • Saul Del Rivero - 2,400
  • Eugene J. Roy - 2,152

Roy promptly filed to contest the results according to numerous e-mailers.

Last we had heard, there were more retirees than active officers - almost 1,000 according to reports we can find, so voter turnout was even worse than recent FOP elections.

UPDATE: There were no ballots - there was a letter mailed to your last known address with instructions for on-line voting.

We got one and if there was anything on the outside of the envelope that made it stand out in our memory, we don't recall it.

UPDATE: Yes, it was ONLY for retirees as the Retiree spot was open. Anyone else wouldn't have gotten a letter.

I see so many posts about those just riding it out because they are retiring soon, and others who are loving the job because of the overtime pay. But they don't show up to vote on things that directly affect their lives that they have some level of control of. Sadly the same thing happens with political elections. Just sitting back and letting others tell them what to do with their future. Sad.

We dodged a self-inflicted bullet. My personal experiences with Roy leave me to believe that he is a terrible human being. Yet still almost half of the votes were for him. How easily swayed is our membership? SCC...next election open up a post and let the members read and write about their personal experiences with the people who would hold our FOP and Pension offices.

The election results are in and they raise serious concerns. How does someone who has been gone for 10–12 years suddenly reappear and win a seat on the Chicago Police Pension Del Rivero never attended a meeting, knows nothing about the makings of the pension fund including Tier 1& Tier 2. Retirees ? Now he will sit alongside “Brenda” and Brian Wright making decisions that affect every retiree. We are told that approximately 2,400 votes were credited to Saul del Rivero after tabulation by Survey and Ballot Systems. Yet many members believe those votes were cast for Eugene Roy.
If there is nothing wrong, then Release the raw numbers. Conduct an independent review. Show the membership exactly how these results were calculated. This pension fund belongs to the retirees who built it — not to political insiders.Transparency isn’t optional. It’s required.Let the investigation begin. JCat is in bed with the pension board. When are the FEDs closing in? JCat will drain our money. Arrest the bastard already!!

"Not sure what his gripe is."

The gripe is a lot of coppers do nothing but beef, particularly about topics they know nothing about because they don't pay attention. Look at all the "I didn't get a ballot" posts in this thread, despite the original post saying that everything was emailed.

I received the email & voted accordingly. Clearly I'm not the only one.

As far as low vote counts go, I'd rather only people who know what's going on vote. In general elections too.

I found the entire matter somewhat disturbing. It seems anyone could announce their candidacy and get on the ballot. i received an letter in the mail with instructions on how to vote along with my password and a bit of a biography of each candidate . Nothing more. I was hoping the FOP would hold a forum and give the candidates a chance to speak and answer questions, but nothing like that happened. I think that people were just tired of the same old same old and went for the new guy. There is not much the elected people on the pension board can do about the pension. The die is cast. The newly elected member should not come out and make some sort of statement.
