The Department used to threaten us with this one semi-regularly. It made us cautious, but didn't really stifle us much. We actually had a lawyer on standby for a while with all sorts of expertise in social media usage off duty, and he thought we might get a nice size payout....if we weren't in Illinois.
In any event, remember - they'll tie you up in the investigative process, but they'll have a difficult time proving they can control your off-duty behavior.
They'll try though. That's what totalitarian leftists do (see the post a few places down from this).

And then take a look at CPD 11.602S. That's your supervisor time card. How many acts of Official Misconduct are documented on that we wonder?
We suddenly have four or five people e-mailing us all sort of stuff about FSD shenanigans involving people splitting shifts, working half-days, running personal errands while on-the-clock, the usual crap that goes on when politically connected people think they can get away with anything. We certainly hope they aren't picking up those children in a city vehicle while everyone else has to pay for babysitters.

Forensics is a messed up place with two goofy Lt’s and a new civilian director who never worked for CPD. All three are super incompetent. The place will be closed in one to two years. FOP has been silent on this one, more incompetence.
MR is useless and vindictive. Merit Lt and went to 003 for 2 weeks. Cried and whined about it and then got to Forensics. She is whats wrong with CPD. Probably has less than 20 career arrrests. Sad thing is, shes not even smart.
That is a messed up e-mail to all members of FSD. I guess the department is worried that the truth might get out that the FSD has been failing after Commander Murphy got moved. Commander Murphy died and can’t return so that’s, that. The current team doesn’t know what they are doing. A national search needs to be done to find the right person to lead the department’s FSD.

I went in completely identifying as one of a certain “demographic” claimed to be of a certain bedroom “persuasion” and follower of a certain “religion of peace” and was adamant about it. The work is not getting done correctly in forensics. Some might call them mistakes. We would rather have ISP do everything. What happened to the unit.
Area 4
The Chicago Police Department paid an outside contractor/company “THREE MILLION DOLLARS” to train 25 people in fingerprinting identification. In as little as three years there are only 10 people left doing the job. The CPD got taken. Waisting taxpayers money. The new director that was hired by CPD was part of that company. The Forensic Unit has never been in worse shape. It is in shambles. Clueless leader who doesn’t even recognize everyone who works under him. The one Lt just workout for 3 hours most days. The other Lt is hardly around. All the Sgt’s couldn’t care less about what goes on. The Sgt’s only want to sit around and watch tv or talk. When not doing that they are running personal errands. This is a low class unit ran by low class supervisors and a director who thinks he is a corporate manager in his office and hardly comes out.
The Sgt’s ruined the unit. There isn’t one who knows what they are doing. The Sgt’s are supposed to train their personnel. The training team with Sgt MS is a joke. I hope the Sgt MS gets called into court on what he is training. This was the worse training I ever received.
If forensics is having trouble now wait for summer. Let the shit show begin. ET’s stopped going to a lot of jobs they used too. I guess it’s the bosses.
The FSD is going to get a build out to spend money on things that will never be used. Everything goes to ISP. CPD is spending money to give to contractors. Corruption.
This all comes from a Lt who never comes close to putting in a full day’s work. Just another Lt who thinks she is all that and brags she is the police but never does police work. She is the epitome of a bad boss. I have zero respect for her.
The bosses are afraid the truth will get out to the public that the place failed. Everyone in the D-Unit knows ;)

I love our CPD ET’s. Especially on a busy summer afternoon. Ond hot summer day a ET requested we babysit him while he collected evidence. No problem. Partner and I arrive at the location and we’re playing on our phone waiting for him. We waited 7 hours, no jobs, no log, nothing. We’re thinking this is the best job ever! The ET goof forgot to notify the zone we aren’t needed anymore so we relaxed all day and won. JAJAJAJAJJA

This department is rife with favoritism and schedule manipulation is how favors get paid back. We all know it. Foot patrol was another area of abuse. I worked the radio room as a rookie and foot guys would come in and turn in two radios routinely. It was nice work if you could get it

The problem is the inspectors never ever hit the units. They’re always going after the low hanging fruit in patrol in the districts. It’s the units that need to be checked. That’s where all the shenanigans are happening.

We’ve got a lot of different personalities on this job, but the reality is that the vast majority of people in FSD are good workers who take pride in what they do. The negativity on the blog is coming from a small minority, the 1% who are insufferable and seem determined to stir things up.
The original post wasn’t about tearing each other down. It was about an outside company that is actively undermining and violating our union contract and protections. That’s the real issue, and it needs to be addressed. Hopefully, the union will take strong action against RS&A and put a stop to it.
Instead of standing together and focusing on that, a few people chose to use this as an opportunity to attack their own. That kind of division only hurts us.
At the end of the day, we can’t afford to be our own worst enemy.

When she was the Sgt in the Chief of Detectives Office during 2020/2021 she would complain when her day off was cancelled and she had to "work the street." Since she was admin Sgt she would conveniently leave herself off the day off cancelled schedules and screw over Sgts in 180 who had more seniority than her. The few times she actually went out she would hide in her office on the 4th floor all tour.

Jcat said at the union meeting today at noon; that CPD is going to civilianize the forensics first. That is the plan moving forward. Anyone who has a title code receiving more money the department can put you where CPD sees fit but, they must keep their pay.
Forensics I give you a year or two. For some it will be enough time. For others I hope you are on the Det or Sgt’s list. Little to no recruits coming. The city is trying to save money. Huge hole in the budget.

Its OK to publish investigations on officers and dirty them up for all to see whether sustained or not, so why is social media dirtying up inept management any different? And all with the use of public money. Inquiring citizens demand to know that public money is well invested and distributed to the connected vendors needs.
I spent 10 years in homicide and saw our Forensics team work many times. I always thought highly of them, that is, until i learned more and saw more. That is, I watched the OJ Simpson trial and the LAPD forensics team work and then get torn apart in court. I could only think that what I saw the LAPD do was head and shoulders above the CPD and they were killed in court. I sure glad this crime did not happen in Chicago. The forensics unit always has been under funded, undertrained and loaded with patronage and political hacks ( although many were nice guys). That is because of the pension bumps these people get, right up to captains pensions. Everything in the CPD is political.
I dont know why some folkslike bragging about coming to work. You want the extra money thats cool. But i will never sell back, comp, bfd, or personal days. I like my free time over this jungle.

Years ago working COS as a dispatcher (now OEMC) was a D2 position for sworn Officers. When they moved out of 11th and State and on Madison they converted to civilian dispatchers. They tried to put the Officers back to D1 when they were forced out but it was ruled that the POs kept D2 pay even if sent back to districts.

Lets talk about the sgts that got promoted and went right back forensics including the firearms lab. One didnt even see a day on the streets, he went right back to the firearms lab.
It wasn't for district commander. Even MR realizes that's way beyond her abilities. She wanted and thought she was going to be made commander of the youth division. However, KD's juice was city hall since she was in charge of security over there and she ended up with that gig. Big Momma Dana O'Malley gave MR the thumbs up for that spot and was her biggest supporter. Dont know about smelling or hein. Poor girl should be in a blue shirt handing out radios. Whoever led her to believe she's a bright individual needs to be spanked.

Who is Buffalo Butt? Some of the politics of the BOD being exposed here. MR is mostly deposed in the BOD. She was brought back by Ursitti who soon realized that that was mistake. Banished to forensics. Some really good people in the BOD, including bosses. There are also some really bad, MR is one of the worst. I guess that happens when favors, politics and rivals enter the mix

Yes, John C. Said the department is extremely serious about civilianizing and forensics is the starting point. A lot of people at the meeting. All can be verified by your unit rep. Don’t worry you still have a job but it will be doing something else. No need to talk about all this garbage that had or was going. Things are done. I agree with a year or two for some. It is all about where the department gets the new workers. If they hire them trained from other agencies it’s right away.

Good for you and I had come good cases also. But, none of the shit defendants had lawyers of the quality that wealthy and famous people can afford. OJ Simpson's attorney tore up the LAPD forensics unit and they did a hell of alot more than I ever saw Chicago do on a crime scene.

Isn't this something we complain about? We don't have supervisors that know the job of a unit because they were never an ET, Det, FTO, K9, SWAT etc, but when a unit does get someone back as a supervisor who did the actual job, we still bitch. I can honestly say that Sgt SC, who came back, is one of the hardest working supervisors I've seen. Her people love and respect her.
