Poor Reasoning

This criminal is sadly misinformed:

  • We’ve learned more about the alleged motives of the man accused of causing widespread damage in a string of axe attacks on property at Chicago firehouses over the past two months, and we now know just how much damage officials think he caused: $130,000.

Chicago cops arrested Jacob Bogdan, 26, around 2:45 p.m. Saturday when they saw him standing in the 200 block of West Cermak Road, directly across the street from the Chinatown firehouse where the crime spree began with an early morning axe attack on February 5.

Now charged with 21 counts of felony criminal damage, Bogdan was ordered detained Sunday afternoon by Judge James Murphy III after prosecutors said Bogdan “carries an axe for protection from firefighters” and had threatened to kill his father, according to court records.

(sarcasm and silliness warning ahead

You don't need "protection" from fire fighters - you just have to avoid them. And in our long experience responding to jobs alongside fire fighters, we discovered the easiest way to accomplish this avoidance:

  • avoid fires
  • avoid fire stations
  • avoid accidents
  • avoid certain bars

However, if you like fire fighters, the best way to find them is:

  • respond to fires
  • hang around fire stations
  • respond to accidents
  • go to certain bars

Most citizens should be pissed this idiot cost taxpayers $130,000 in car repairs for the affected fire fighters.

When I see firemen in public establishments I do two.things:

1. Continue reading my bible....
3. Continue drinking my iced tea..

Leave them alone, they.leave is alone

Horrible. Thank goodness the bad man was caught and held in custody. We are all safe from him for now. They won’t be able to hold the likes of him forever.

$130,000. In car repairs? Why would the city pay for the car repairs? Don’t they have car insurance Wasn’t aware that we were protected from vandals if we park in the department lots. Just asking?

Assuming of course that the city will pay for the repairs to the FF's POV's. That is not a given these days.

Wasn't CFD recently hunting down firefighters who had their licensed concealed carry firearm in their personal vehicle? It is sad that the city doesn't allow them to have lock boxes in the firehouses as it is obvious there are people out that wanting to cause them harm. Whatever happened to Safety First? Guess that doesn't apply to Firefighters in the Firehouse.

I am NOT so sure the city will take responsibility for this. Over a four decade career in CFD many vehicles have been vandalized or broken into and the city claims no responsibility......

But if firemen cannot carry guns on city property (locked vehicle) then seeing that the parking lot is city property, the city should be responsible! CUT AND DRY!

Damaged as they were parked on city property and while they were on the clock. Why would they be responsible for those repairs? Nevermind the fact the city refuses to secure these lots for employees and don’t even want the FD to protect themselves with that whole CCL fiasco last year.

Why would they? It’s free parking. They don’t have to park there. It wasn’t negligence, it was a crime

It’s not like they are required to park there Becareful what you ask for especially under Johnson. To avoid responsibility the city could say no more parking on our property I’m sure cars have be vandalized in the police parking lots and I don’t ever recall the city paying

Doubt they would pay. Officers have had damage to their personnel cars in CPD lots for years, especially headquarters and all they got was a report for their insurance companities. Is there an order on it and who and how would you ask for the money? Never saw a form or procedure

Not so cut and dry. Are they required to park there No
Also doubt there is a process to get reimbursed because this has happened before unless you know of one. Also who pays for the rental car for the 2 or 3 weeks getting the work done if you don’t report it to the insurance company. I wish them luck Should be responsible and are responsible are two different things

They're on their own as far as paying for repairs. If your car is in a repair shop's lot and it hails or is vandalized, you're financially responsible.
