Naming Park District property for an armed criminal justifiably shot by polioce:
The Chicago Park District plans to rename a playground within Washington Park for a man who was killed in a police shooting nearby in 2014.
[...] The Park District Board approved the district's request to start a 45-day public notice period.
A playground on the northwestern side of Washington Park, at 53rd Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, would be named Ronald "RonnieMan" Johnson Playground. Currently, the playground does not have a name.

Cook County prosecutors have declined to file criminal charges against a Chicago police officer who shot and killed 25-year-old Ronald Johnson, saying dashboard camera video of the shooting shows Johnson was carrying a gun when he was shot.
Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez said her office conducted a "very careful" review of the Independent Police Review Authority's investigation of the shooting, and determined Johnson resisted arrest, and ignored several orders to drop a gun he was holding as he fled police on Oct. 12, 2014.
What does it say about a community that constantly memorializes the dregs of society, especially somewhere that children play?

The park by my house has two playgrounds but not named. I am thinking of nominating Jacob Bogdan, the mope that went on the axe chopping spree at the two firehouses causing $130,000 in damages that the taxpayers will need to pay for the damages to the firefighter's vehicles. Maybe they could include a statute of him with the axe in hand ready to pounce.
It says to me that the city doesn't give a fuc& about cops, firefighters & medics. A good name for that park The Michael Altman memorial park?? But instead name it after a criminal. See when the little kids play there they can see that the city cares more about someone who may have a shot a family member as opposed to someone who may have saved a family member. I will be happy when I move out of Chicago. I’m 4th generation Chicago resident. My great grandparents moved to Chicago in the 1880’s from NY. I plan on moving to another state upon retirement.

I am retired, and know of about seven to ten CPD or CFD heroes that should have their names on a Chicago park….. So just go ahead and name that park after this gun toter. I will take great pleasure using up my ZERO ammunition on that park sign every chance I get. I have all the time in the world. So start taking photos of that sign as it become Swiss cheese!

In all seriousness, the city had a choice between Chicago resident Jesse Jackson - who made some effort to improve black lives at one point in his life - and a gun-toting criminal who was shot while resisting arrest. They picked the latter. And then you wonder why their kids have zero incentive to learn or even go to school - they get more props for robbing, mugging, carjacking and killing.

My poor asked Irish forebears came here in the 1840s to dig the I&M canal by hand with pick axes and dynamite. The canal opened up chicago to the world making shipping from new york to new Orleans possible. They worked 6 days a week from sun up to sun down for like .75 cents a day. On Sunday they worked for free building stone churches along the canal. For that they got a free grave site. 100s died of malaria in the swampy valleys of Lemont and Lockport. My family is still in illinois to this day. They had farms and moved up to the union stockyards. Many went into politics and served as Democrat officials or worked as city or state workers. Not one has ever been on welfare or incarcerated. Work and pay taxes, raise your kids in catholic schools and maintain their homes. One family has over 100 years of unbroken service on cpd. All that has now changed. We along with tens of thousands of others were the backbone of this once great city. Everyone is leaving now including me.
