Nice Manpower Conehead

Wasn't the "Consent" Decree going to fix all this?

Down Cars:

  • Early side - 1215, 1225, 1233, 1235, 1271
  • Late side - 1232, 1234, 1214A

We list 1234 as "down" because they're actually driving the late Wagon, so they're not really a beat car any more.

One Man Cars that should be 10-4 Units:

  • 1211, 1212, 1213, 1214, 1221, 1222, 1223, 1224, 1231

So what should be Watch manned by about thirty-five Officers was on the streets with eleven Officers - around 31% of listed strength. - on a Saturday night.

Completely safe and efficient!

This is citywide.
Some districts have 2 cars on the late side. Wagons are working two tasks, beat car and transports.
2-3 cars on a sector with 1 or 2 Sgts per Watch.
We are doing more with less.
Personnel have been getting hurt but nobody cares.
Future looks like two 12-hour watches.

The Chicago Police Department is in a crisis. I predict this summer medial use will increase to numbers never seen before. Manpower issues, bosses out of touch with reality, low moral, no support, restrictive policies, disgruntled employees and criminal's not held highly accountable, it’s all a recipe for disaster.

The department will need to get the fop to agree to 12 hours shifts. This lack of manpower isn’t sustainable. I am not for 12 hour shifts. We hold the chips. We need to stick together. These young offices need to wake up and listen to some of us veterans. They would be the ones all for 12 hour shift because they don’t have kids or a spouse. Not all of them but a lot of the younger officers don’t have kids and they seem to only think in the moment and not about the future.

As a new LT of a particular afternoon watch on the news side of the city o don't have much to say about that except the piece about low police staffing in Chicago severely damagesv is prosperity and growth. It causes slower response times and rising crime, driving businesses and residents to leave which leads me into another piece related to how that will no doubt shrink the tax base, lower property values, and reduces economic activity/ investment. Then there's another piece concerning big and small companiess incurring higher security and insurance costs, while pieces liketourism, retail, and nightlife decline. Overworked officers face burnout and turnover, worsening the shortage, then there's the medical to pieces I don't even want to get into. The city develops a lasting negative reputation that deters investment and talent. Last piece, chronic under policing creates a self-reinforcing cycle of disorder, population loss, and economic decline. --the wise O

012: Foot Posts guys H,L,C should just retire. They spend 4 hours in the gym working out. Waste of manpower… just leave 012 please you guys are useless. They have no shame! Shame on the Bosses that allow this. The PO’s coming out of early and late roll call sees it and of course doesn’t look good. The Sgt’s won’t call them out either!! Even 500 knew about it back then and surprisingly never said anything to them! Also, the former Commander J.B should’ve gotten rid of the bike and entertainment teams. Another waste of manpower. How about working a full shift on a beat car. They can’t do anything different than a beat car. Let’s end this with the 3 person mission team. Seriously why are they even there. They are NOT Detectives! Let the real Detectives do their job. I’m sure 2nd watch could use them
As a rapid. The REAL problem is supervision and DECISION MAKING by the person in charge of 012…. The Captain! The former Commander allowed the Bike and Entertainment Teams and the 3 Useless Foot guys to exist. I highly doubt the Captain will make any changes. So…. Don’t complain about why the sheets look so bad on 2nd 3rd and midnights. Now let me continue to push my beat car.

The 12th District is way way too big now too and just an extension of downtown. Too much vehicle traffic, too many hospitals and too many large event spaces that could go sideways with an active shooter or unruly crowd. Try to get from the station to the north end of the district on a Friday or Saturday evening. Thank God the 14th District assists on backup calls but this is becoming untenable and 014 has there own problems.

Every district is like that. Officers going from call to call with no breaks ever. Trying to get paper done and dispatchers keep calling them for more jobs so paper falls behind. They also try to use Sgt’s as beat cars and that’s a problem because then who’s doing the supervising. Stop sending officers on the bs jobs to help lighten the load and end all units , caps, and tact teams. They are all useless anyways. Put them on beat cars

99 units. It’s a major downtown district and there are no foot units, no traffic car, and no park car? All the commander and captain are worried about is chasing the next promotion while keeping unit OT costs down while PO’s are running themselves ragged daily in a backlog. Morale there is in the gutter and people are bidding out any chance they can.

The manpower can improve. Any available inside spot should be in a squad car at least for half the tour. If we can do elearning in a squad car, you can do your secretary work from a squad car. District intelligence, Watch secretary, time keeper, time keeper assistant. Troubled buildings officer, district affinity officers. Tact secretary. Have only 1 caps officer by bid. Have only 1 sdsc officer by bid. Put the rest on fixed posts and they can do their work from their phones or at least have them available for assignment during change times. All tact to marked cars. Mission team back to watch. If down cars still exist, back fill with tact. In a rap I believe, tact is to handle calls then the supervisors. Probably don't wanna go there. Easy fix, your welcome.

As a Sgt, I’ll agree with you about their supervisor not calling them out. I give folks on the watch a little leeway because I was a p.o and played the game to a certain extent. However, there’s a difference between running a job into your lunch and being down excessively while you work out. It’s not cool to the rest of the people on the watch and should be addressed

Can't imagine CPD working 12's where late domestics are twice a week and court on top of that at 1300... God help the midnight officers on 12's. Most will utilize the 3-6-5 and resign. Honestly, your typical Commander doesn't give a flying F about the officers patrol. They just take care of their few who the DC tells them to take care of. Just look at how staffed the SDSC is yet only two 99 cars on late side. Tact and CAPS fully staffed. Desk staffed with young females. Learn to beat them at this game and start pushing back a little otherwise they'll ride you in!

Disband the Car Caravan Unit. Has anyone actually seen any of those cars at a takeover, heard them on the radio, or seen them make an arrest. Their four hour tour ends well before the drag racers come out.

If CIRT has 200 officers assigned to it, why is it that everyone from around the city is sent to cover events they should be doing. Other than May Day and No Kings rallies, what else is there to justify that many officers. If you have hundreds of officers putting in to try to get to your unit, it should tell you it’s a cake spot.
