Didn't they cancel the St Patrick's Parade for a few years over lower numbers than this?
Chicago police arrested 34 people during the 2026 Chicago Pride Parade and its aftermath in Boystown on Sunday night into the early hours of Monday, a CPD spokesperson said — a number that falls almost exactly in line with the long-term average recorded by CWB Chicago since we began tracking the event’s data in 2013.
Five of those arrested this year were juveniles, police said. Among the felony cases, the most common charges involve battery of peace officers and obstruction, but three people face firearm possession allegations, according to the department. Charges remain pending against two people and the nature of those cases has not been disclosed. On the misdemeanor side, battery, resisting, and reckless conduct are the most common charges filed.
Granted, this is post-parade mayhem, probably not by actual parade attendees, but rather but persons who don't pay CTA fares to go north where the victims are plentiful and no one fights back.
If they'd move just set up a general parade corridor downtown where parking is plentiful, neighborhood disruptions would be minimal and exit routes everywhere, perhaps it would make the night time riots less?

This reason they won’t send this debacle downtown is the taverns, liquor stores, restaurants and other stores are making too much money. They make a lot of money on that one day. They would fight it. Years ago I went into the Walgreens on Diversey east of Halsted get something to drink. They were sold out of all water, pop & beer in the mid afternoon. I would rather do Bud Biliken than the 023 freak show.

It wasn’t all bad for some of the police who enjoyed the festivities along with some of the parade goers with some extra curricular activities. Hopefully they don’t take some time for that

Novalez did great in my opinion. Shut the event down very early, pushed the fuckers onto the trains, and declared a mass arrest.
The “after parade” mobs and their behavior, was THE WORST I’ve seen in 25 years. I don’t know about HALSTED, but Broadway from Wellington Avenue all the way to ADDISON, was solid teenagers in the street (this was MIDNIGHT M)…most underage. The cars were bumper to bumper and the idiots were in the street to block cars from moving. I would say 1,000+ were involved..NO POLICE ON BROADWAY at 11:00, midnight, 1:00. Again, no police, no effort to control traffic and help those in cars. This parade MUST MOVE to another location and harsher methods need to be used by police..tear gas, water cannons, AND ARRESTS that are taken into custody…to call a parent to come and get them. Avoid most of the problems and MOVE THE PARADE.👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

As a White, straight, tactical team Sergeant who has worked both the Gay Pride parade and Bud Billiken Parade I would work the Bud Billiken Parade any time over the Pride Parade. Working the Bud Billiken Parade people would offer you food, drinks, and for the most part act very cordial towards you. As far as the Pride Parade all you got was hateful resentments towards you.

Some of the bloodiest calls I've been on were gay oriented. They're inherently unstable, twisted, and dangerous. When their tempers flare, all their instability boi!s over into extreme violence. Remember the Cunanan / Miglin case? Miglin was essentially decapitated along with crushing injuries from being battered with a sack of concrete. I told my wife to never let our kids be babysat by a same sex couple. She thought I was being over the top, but I convinced her otherwise after the parade stories.
