Newly released dashcam video shows a Pasadena police officer getting shot by a fellow officer in what the police chief described as a "horseplay" incident.
The footage, taken inside a Pasadena police parking garage, captures a patrol car pulling up behind two officers standing near another vehicle. One of the officers standing outside is seen quickly drawing his gun and pointing it at the officer in the patrol car. After a few seconds, he re-holsters the weapon.
The video does not show what happens next, but the police chief said the officer seated in the patrol car also drew a gun, which discharged. The bullet traveled through the windshield and struck the other officer in the shoulder.
The shooting happened last September, but the department released the video Wednesday.
That seems to fall far outside the recognized definition of "horseplay." And the narrative indicates there are TWO morons here who shouldn't be trusted anywhere near firearms, let alone carrying them as part of their jobs.
You don't draw a loaded weapon and point it at someone or something you aren't willing to shoot in the defense of yourself or others - LEAST OF ALL at a fellow officer.

I seem to remember one or two “horseplay” incidents on CPD over the years, where someone was actually hit. Idiotic.
Gotta admit....I was tempted at times....

I had three guys around me racking live rounds when I was getting changed to go home.

I hope suspension time for both officers was severe enough to reflect the seriousness of the incident; while sending a message to the rest of the department that “horseplay” that jeopardizes officer safety will not be tolerated.

Years ago in 002, we had a desk guy that used to fuck around pulling his snub out. One day, he pulls it out, playing around, cocks it, and BANG! Round hits the top of the desk, digs a groove and hits a copper standing at the desk. Luckily the desk counter took most of the oomph out of the round, hit the copper in the leather jacket and knocked him down. And to top it off, both of these guys were white, but a black copper immediately pulls his gun and points it at the copper laying on the floor.
Someone got one oof those star washers that were on the other side of the handcuff rings, painted it blue, and screwed it into the desk over the groove and put "Blue Star Award" on it.

Many guys from Viet Nam and a few from Korea still on the job chose 45's. Got my locker assignment from District Secretary Cynthia White and went downstairs. I noticed a few bullet holes in lockers and the shitter doors. I guessed this was from guys inexperienced with semi autos playing with their new toys while taking a dump.
