Well as a resident of Mt. Greenwood or as I call it "Little Appalachia" I have not seen an actual car go down my street in weeks. But what I have seen is ATV's, dirt bikes, go karts, skooters, mini motorcycles, and golf carts. And yes some with infants riding on them. I have lived here 23 of my 28yrs on the job and the neighborhood is not what it was. Its become hillrod nation with people that have zero respect for their neighbors. I'm checking out of the job and the City in about 4 more weeks. I could give 2 shits about Chicago or what its future holds. Maybe they can organize purges.

We had a group in our neighborhood that would run up and down the sidewalks. Calling in seemed futile as they would disappear 5 minutes before the PD arrived. Every. Single. Time. They had to have someone listening to the scanner.

So I leave in less then a year so what I do is sit by my car and when I see them coming I toss a handful of roofing nails in the street and hopefully they get a bunch in their tires.

Best thing that I ever did was sell my house in Mt. Greenwood and move to a nice quiet suburb, although I have some nostalgia for my time living in Chicago. Years ago it was a great place to live.

In Mt. Greenwood golf carts are being used to pick up kids after school at Mt. Greenwood school.
So I called the 23rd ward alderman's office and emailed them. They said CALL THE POLICE to report it. My question is this. When that kid or whatnot hits a car or a car hits them because they DO NOT stop and follow the rules of the road, who is at fault. I know they are illegal, but at least teach your kids to stop and look both ways. When the kid dies or is massively injured, it seems that it will never be their fault. We all know that the cops have better things to do and the ATV, Golf Cart call will be out in the queue for a long time if not an hour. Love the 8th Dist coppers but, like I said, I do not want to see some innocent civilian on the hook for a death of a kid on a motorized toy.

He's not taking that kid for a ride, that's his protection. Police won't do anything because if the kid gets hurt the city gets sued. Plus he's probably dealing and most likely is packing. It's a sure fire way to avoid the law.

Retired and moved out to the Southwest. Living in a small rural town and this is a common occurence. Golf carts and Side X Sides are a regular form of transportation. Old Duffers ride from their houses to the golf courses. People do their grocery shopping in them around here. Small kids about 5 years old and up ride dirt bikes in the street out here. Its no big deal. I can see how it is an accident waiting to occur in the city though. Let it happen and give them a Darwin award and a long form arrest for child endangerment. Good thing they are cracking down on E-Bikes all over the country though, right?

There is no helmet law here. Wannabe's and weekend warrior cosplay bikers are always wearing helmets because they are scared. You see less hardcore riders today than you used to. If I was going on the highway, I wore a helmet. If I was just riding to the hardware store or out for a ride around the airport, I was in jeans/t-shirt/sunglasses and high tops. I have a neighbor that put his helmet on to ride around the block and park in the garage. He never went over 15 mph. It's all about freedom boys...You either claim it or you dont have it. I'm not the police, but what I am is an old man. An old man who remembered the sixties & seventies when cops & their stations were open season. Times changed (B.
