The city could be running its first intercity bus terminal under public ownership by late summer following a vote by the City Council to buy the ailing South Loop Greyhound station.
The ordinance passed Wednesday allows the city to purchase the terminal at 630 W. Harrison St. for $19 million. The deal also pumps millions into renovating the neglected terminal — and saves the nearly half-million people who use the station each year from potentially being kicked to curbside bus service.
We'll expect this to be losing money within a year.

If I remember correctly, the 95th street CTA terminal has a Greyhound office, just use that. It’s convenient to public transportation, and keeps, well you know, the downtown area clear of “buses.”

If our City CLOWNcil had to balance a budget, or give up the aldermanic perks and extra cash they get, they wouldn’t be so quick to just blanket-okay all this spending of what-we-don’t-have-to-give.
Last month I agreed to buy a motorcycle in South Carolina and thought it would be a lark to take Greyhound from central WI to pick it up. The trip was an eye-opener. Why Chicago would take over such a losing proposition as that shithole Greyhound station defies logic. Force Greyhound to maintain it or condemn it and raze the building. You might not believe some of the other stops I saw on the way - so sketchy I did not get off the bus to stretch and such. Utter corporate dysfunction providing the bare minimum service to those for whom Greyhound is the conveyance of last resort.
Unfortunately a commentator on Fox made an observation we all have to agree with. Shitty Democrat mayors are usually replaced with even shittier Democrat mayors. New York got rid of Diblasio and replaced him with Adams, and now Mahmdami the Commie. Progressively worse. Now that LA seems to have successfully stolen that election from Pratt, their choices are limited to Dumb and Dumber. What Chicago citizens should be asking themselves is HOW LOW CAN WE GO?
Much like the Statue of Liberty that bus station has been a beacon for millions of illegal immigrants who came here with a dream. It should be preserved at all costs as a shrine to progressive policies that were the beacon that led them here. There should be at least one mural of a police station lobby full of sleeping migrants. And another of a migrant receiving a cell phone and using his link card and SNAP benefits.
The only people who vote any more are boomers ( I’m one) and union members. The rest DGAF, and exist in blissful ignorance. How else can you explain the election of the last two mayors?
Has anyone in the city council asked why greyhound went belly up? I guess with gas prices , limited seating and a ridership that can barely afford current prices, it's a dying business. No wonder the private sector didn't want to touch it with a ten foot pole.
