We don't think it was actually 25 days straight, but rather two incidences that added up to 25 days total.
But we thought there were OT restrictions? That manpower shortages were a figment of our imaginations?
The pay was nice....but you seldom had time to spend it properly before the next set of cancellations.

Bosses don’t care or think of the workers when they cancel days off. Total morale killer. Now go out and give everything you have for the bosses.
The OT restriction didn’t happen until last year. FOP added a memorandum in October 2025 saying you cannot be forced to work more than 10 days in a row.

I was at 24 days straight then I finally had a day off.
Terrible for families. But gotta admit, we didn’t care once the kids were grown. Wife and I took every opportunity possible for last 5 years. Invested every fucking penny and busted out of Chicago at 55.
The best of all of them was the Cubs in 2016. The city didn't care because MLB picked up the tab.
I think the comments is referring to 2020. I know I worked 27 days in June. Can't remember Aug. They also cancelled us in Nov and Dec because of COVID and medical use

My guess is this has to be PRT. They seem to have it the worst. I don't know why any of them stay? The second they aren't detailed out the bosses start asking where are the numbers??? You make these guys work details/protests/wildings all over the city all summer. Suddenly they are in the area they are assigned to and bang, not enough activity. I hear this from other units who are S/S DOG. Every Saturday is a detail and if you want to stay don't you dare do a to from to get out of it. They all started putting in for CTA on Saturday to get out of the DOG canceled. Nobody wants to go downtown and not get off of work at 0400 ruining the only day they might get off. Long overdue to civilianize the timekeepers and these other spots that could be done by someone with an 8th grade education.
Tact or special unit cry babies. I haven’t been cancelled or forced to work anything extra. I’ve workless this year then the last 2 years.

Absolutely. There are guys working for smaller suburban departments that salivate at all the overtime Chicago gets. Most of these guys scuffle around looking for side gigs that pay shit. Take it while you can get it. Work it like you're working that stripper pole....

What’s going to happen when the contract expires in 2027? What will happen with the medical? Nobody is talking about it. Everything points to mandatory 29 years on no matter the age for medical. We will have to give up 7 percent instead of the 3.5 percent we give up now.
Still no answers about the VRI payback. Is it 100 million or is it 700 million? When is the deadline to pay us?
This was the reason the overtime rules were negotiated and it wasn't only tact teams. I know my watch did 20 days straight of cancelled days off and 12 hour days in the 1st district after the looting. That was 6 years ago with David Brown having no clue what to do.

4th and 5th watch are not included in the arbitration ruling on canceled days off becausethey are voluntary. Its probably the same for some units. Go to the FOP website and read the ruling under arbitration awards.

Mexican independence DAY preparations for a WEEK?! am I missing something? One day celebration take a week to plan\execute? Did they not realize this happens every year so why a week this time around?

To get the medical you should have to work 29 and a day. A person should not be able to work 20 years and get insurance because they turned 55.

011 district PO’s especially on 3rd watch all get mandatory extension every weekend dealing with crowds and other nonsense. Now let’s cancel days for officers who are already exhausted. Officers have had to start putting cu time on the end just to be able to go home on time and not work 12 hours.
The damage is much larger than vri.
Most big city departments and state police agencies in blue states can leave at 20 years of service.
agree , no health insurance benefits unless you are maxed out 29+ a day. Mexican Independence Day is a joke because of unqualified DEI exempts and the incompetent people they have writing the orders.

You only have 4 medical events no matter what the injury or illness. After that you'll be put in Behavioral Intervention followed by formal discipline on your next one. Use them wisely, but better yet stop fucking over your coworkers. DOG.
