Well you missed out. Either you have no time on the job or your a single old fart. No matter what, to get a few days of VRI here and there really helped my family when we needed it.
So, 200 less Officers working the worst areas in the city? Yikes, criticize VRI all you want but something was better than nothing. Good luck in 2017.

I realize that nobody working VRI does any real policevwork while sitting in their box, but how do we actually know that VRI is ineffective in preventing shootings as people have proclaimed? Be patient, I'm sure they'll go to 500 or more. They were supposed to increase the rank to 1500 or so and with the recent lieutenants class I'm sure the next class will be 100 plus.
VRI was a well appreciated police welfare program.

Just found out today on 4-JAN-2017, while going to see my doctor that my medical coverage is inactive for me and the family. They told me to call my provider, did so and they told me they are aware of problem. I was told that I'm not the only one, but unfortunately me along with 6 or 7 thousand members of the city of chitcago. After calling every human resources, benefits and their momma ended up calling the FOP, in which they are aware of situation but no answers except that everybody (Blue Cross, City of Shitcago and FOP) know about the problem, but no time frame as to when problem will be fixed. In the meantime was told to pay up front or send the bill to city of Shitcago. When I told them to send the bill to city, they freaked out saying that they would rather for me to pay up front and for me to send bill to city and good luck with that. What the fuck is this shit show going on, city is taking out for medical benefits but I'm shit out of luck, any advice......

85-93 thousand without any overtime or uniform checks is slave wage??? Hahahahahha, you must have grew up in the suburbs your whole life with parents who were well off. My parents are blue collar and we were raised that way in the city. I make about 88k right now and my wife works a decent part time job making about 40k a year. We have a nice house but not a mansion, two good family cars and can send the kids to catholic schools. We don't live beyond our means and we still have enough money to take a few vacations a year and save some. What's your problem??? Wife won't work?? Gotta have a brand new cool tactical jeep with the punisher sticker on it that costs 40 grand, gotta have a huge house with all the toys? Yeah, a "slaves wage". Try not to insult the people who aren't cops who make 40-50k a year with a house and family. You were obviously a spoiled chiled and a self spoiled adult.

I stopped working VRI in July of '16. I was able to pay off my condo in under 8 years. I only have 6 to go before I can leave this God forsaken job, all thanks to the fine people and folks of the South and West sides of the city. That and Shortshanks and the tiny dancer not being able to manage a big city.
They will do in district missions and it will be runned by the same sgts, example in 009 heard from a friend that on 3rd watch it's always the same Sgt and almost the same p/o doing it.

Called bcbs today 1618 hours told policy was cancelled 01jan2017, but they were opening a new policy same numbers, asked my name and said I was in the batch along with thousands of other officers the city sent paperwork electronically late was this another rahm hate the police idea! VRI was good when they had 400 Officers out there. They asked for copies of activity and we brought it in. Of course this was all before the media killed the CPD.
All vri did was wake up the lazy dog copper and have them bring in the bare minimum or bother people that would normally be left alone just so a greedy copper can make money to pay a exwife or a over priced pick up truck. Who cares?
If it ends, it was a good run. I can't imagine it ending though, not with 800 murders. Presence was a deterrent.
It's been the biggest waste of money in department history. We bitch and moan all day about the city wasting money on all kinds of other shit but when it involves us we don't say shit. Let's be honest this shit doesn't do anything about crime. We put 2 guys in a car watching movies and texting for 8 hours and sit them on one corner or block all night. It's a total and complete waste of hundreds of millions of dollars. How can the city justify homicides almost doubling while paying for so much VRI? It's just a joke. Until sentencing changes and until coppers are allowed to be the police again(probably not happening) nothing is changing. I mean if I'm the mayor I would say fuck it, if we have 800-900 murders anyway we can do that while saving hundreds of millions in OT. The numbers aren't changing in this environment with no consequences for these animals. Go ahead call me a troll or whatever you need to call me to make yourself feel better, but I'm a blue shirt with common sense. Anyone that says this works is just a moron.
All of you talking about how VRI actually works clearly can't face reality. You know it, I know it, and every other real copper knows it. Unless you're going to VRI and actively looking for guns every time you work it, you're not making a difference. Let's be honest it's a bunch of guys writing bullshit ass parkers or maybe an anov and only doing THAT to get their activity for next months VRI. I'm sure it would basically reveal that VRI is a money maker for the city because all anyone does is parkers and ANOVs. Low end that's $50 per Parker and maybe $100 per anov(if actually paid). Do the math. Then show me exactly the total number of ARRESTS made by all VRI units since this began years ago. Show me the numbers and then tell me how "effective" it is. Perhaps moving VRI boxes to spots that really needed it would be helpful. Spots went for years because of an isolated shooting. Perhaps before closing it down, they switch up boxes. Don't recall many actual shootings happening INSIDE the boxes.

That's not the point of VRI dumb fuck and it never has been. VRI is about a deterrence, not about pimp numbers, no shootings in VRI boxes=success. Being visible and in the area you're supposed to be in the key.
Joe knows a police car is a block away, Joe knows that increases his chance of being caught exponentially, if you can't figure that out, you're exponentially stupid.
I stopped working VRI in July of '16. I was able to pay off my condo in under 8 years. I only have 6 to go before I can leave this God forsaken job, all thanks to the fine people and folks of the South and West sides of the city. That and Shortshanks and the tiny dancer not being able to manage a big city.
