- Three people were carjacked over 40 minutes in Lakeview and Lincoln Park late Wednesday and early Thursday -- and two of the stolen cars were later found in the same South Side police district, one parked and the other crashed, according to Chicago police.
Those carjacked included a food delivery driver robbed at gunpoint and two women, police said.
- Chicago police issued a community alert Wednesday saying there have been six carjackings or robberies on the North Side. This comes on a day that the police superintendent and mayor announced that there will be more technology on the streets to track stolen vehicles.
License plate readers on squad cars can scan up to 1,000 plates per minute, picking up whether a car is stolen. Two hundred more patrol cars will be outfitted with them, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Wednesday.
This explains why they called for a bunch of plate readers to be pulled off the streets for a photo-op yesterday.
We can't quite figure out how this matters though - we aren't allowed to chase for property crimes, and that is all that carjacking is under the current regime, even when it's done with a gun.

Not much can be done about the car jacking under the current administration. Maybe if more citizens had concealed carry permits, or state law allowed a person to carry a firearm in his/her vehicle without a permit there would be fewer jackings.

This is also happening in Indiana. This week on Monday at 1:15PM in the afternoon, a woman was fueling her new Dodge Charger at the BP Station in Dyer, Indiana which is right on the Indiana/Illinois border on US 30. A male dindu pointed a gun at her and stole the car. At least our local paper still describes the suspect "a male black", who else and was "last seen driving into Illinois". Well, nearby communities in Illinois are Sauk Village, Lynwood, Ford Heights, Chicago Heights, all filled with former Chicago shitheads who moved into these communities when Daley demolished the projects. I think the citizens of Indiana should petition President Trump to build another wall between Indiana and Illinois to keep out Obama's sons from the south suburbs that are doing a lot of crime in Dyer, Schererville and St. John.

Are we to believe the system immediately registers plate as "Stolen".... unlike LDS/HotDesk which requires creating a report, verifying info and results in ragtime (hours to days)...maybe it does--but still think having more police, quicker response, better training to get good info and get it broadcast asap--as well as engaged officers listening to radio/allcall and actively doing police work to locate car/offenders might be a better solution....well that and incarceration for repeat offenders

I’m not defending any of the regular cast of characters, but we have the ability to locate the license plate within a couple minutes if we have the vehicle owners information via Soundex.

Exactly. Most citizens, media and judges hate us. It took me a while to realize what you said because I thought UUW and getting the bad guy. Truth is, like it or not, we ARE the new bad guys. We can’t prevent messy conflicts because, well, life doesn’t fucking work like that. So when things go sideways, we get the shaft in all directions. Know that ILCS isays one thing but department policy and jurors say otherwise. JVD, regardless of your feelings, is a perfect example. Second, ILCS allows for chasing for murder, armed robbery (agg v. We talked to the pdt repair guy a while ago when some boss got a bug up their ass about no pdts in the district. They are repaired first come, first served, and there are no spare parts, so they have to wait until a destroyed one comes in so they can cannibalize it and fix others. The man is literally losing his marbles over these incidents in these districts. The more he screams the more rediculous and unprofessional he looks. Every day the entire area takes him less and less serious and he is loosing the faith and support of the entire area detective division. SVU is safe because he has no clue what he’s talking about when it comes to SVU which is great for us.. the poor saps in RBT and HGS have to deal with this whacko on a daily basis. The midget has lost it and he’s not fooling anyone with his big mouth and war stories. If I have a case that is suspended I’m not changing it to cleared for your stats. I refuse. I dare you to take some sort of action. It’s suspended for a reason which is documented and will stay that way. If you want cases a different way then you get open your inbox midget and get to investigating your own jobs. Otherwise stop micromanaging and stop killing an already abysmal morale. He’s an absolute “yes man” to the bosses who comes off as an expert detective but behind the scenes and on the floor he treats the important people... the detectives actually doing the job like garbage. He’s a fake who has talked his way into the position he is in with his self promoting stories of the past..
Yes we can't chase anymore. But what these sheep don't understand is that after they carjack a car, they use that car to shoot people, kill people, rob people, rape people and carjack people again. But hey, it's all good, we won't chase. Let the lawsuit having, merit, cheating, future commander Nakia Fenner handle it all. She feels that she should be a commander by now, prove it. I love watching the little Napoleon commander of area central detectives go absolutly crazy over these car jackings and robberies in 012,001 and 018. The man is literally losing his marbles over these incidents in these districts. The more he screams the more rediculous and unprofessional he looks. Every day the entire area takes him less and less serious and he is loosing the faith and support of the entire area detective division. SVU is safe because he has no clue what he’s talking about when it comes to SVU which is great for us.. the poor saps in RBT and HGS have to deal with this whacko on a daily basis. The midget has lost it and he’s not fooling anyone with his big mouth and war stories. If I have a case that is suspended I’m not changing it to cleared for your stats. I refuse. I dare you to take some sort of action. It’s suspended for a reason which is documented and will stay that way. If you want cases a different way then you get open your inbox midget and get to investigating your own jobs. Otherwise stop micromanaging and stop killing an already abysmal morale. I see the FOP is endorsing Carlos “Sal” Saladino for retiree rep. Maybe they should know about how good ole’ “Sal” sued two female Po’s from 017 after they gave his weed head son a break when his weed fell from his sweatpants when they made him shake them out. Getting the “police courtesy” wasn’t good enough for Sal. He sued them saying they strip searched his poor little boy. The officers submitted a contact card and guess who disposed of it? Then Sgt Dave McNaughton who worked with Saladino in 014 thought he would do him a solid and pulled the card so as not to leave a record of a coppers kid getting stopped. Unfortunately when it went to trial McNaughton denied ever seeing the card and the two female officers who gave his kid a break on a weed charge were slapped with $15,000 puntative damages each. Think twice if you think this guy is “for coppers”

Everybody should have a picture of their plate on their phone in case they can't remember it. If they do get the phone you're at square one. But if they just take the car, you'll have the info.

When did John Richardson retire from the UIC Police? Was told by a friend on the job, that they have a different Chief now, and any CPD working off-duty at the UIC Pavillion, or anywhere else on that campus will be arrested for UUW if they are armed. Anyone else hear of this horse shit?? So what then, leave the pistol in the car? Or give it to security to lock up? Unbelievable. Used to work off-duty security there years ago, and that crap was never an issue when Richardson was in charge.

The new UIC Chief sounds like a CPD hater because he was rejected by the CPD just like a lot of the U of C guys and a few railroad guys too. How can he beef about the robberies in 12 when the clearance rate is highest in the city there and they’re down 17% YTD from 2017? Carjackings are down 24% YTD compared to last year.
Anyone still working that has their 20 in is a total fool. You have lost any right to complain as you have a paid way out. Man up and get the hell out the CPD and the city of Chicago and state of Illinois. Lots of opportunity out there.
National Insurance Crime Bureau in Des Plaines would be more than happy to give the CPD several bait cars that lock once the offender gets inside. Makes too much sense for CPD.

Most people can’t remember their plate because they are morons, not trauma. Take a picture of your plate and VIN and have it on your phone. Leave a voicemail for yourself on your phone that has your plate and VIN - even if your phone is taken with the car, you can call your voicemail (from a payphone, the responding cop’s phone, a Good Samaritan, etc) check your saved messages and have the info. Email yourself your plate, VIN, and insurance card. You can access email from anyone’s electronic device these days.
Better yet, be prepared and alert. Try having your eyes on the road and your periphery instead of buried in your phone. You don’t want to be a concealed carrier? Fine. Be alert enough to hit the gas pedal when you see anyone looking remotely suspicious approaching. That means leaving a 1/2 car length between you and the bumper in front of you. Trust me, being 3 inches from someone’s bumper isn’t getting you home or to Starbucks any faster.
Use some sense people. Stop being sheep.
