Wednesday night was goofy. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 teens running amok and guess who pulls a Positive Community Interaction number over the air?
- My favorite moment last night was Commander Piggott telling everyone to slow it down at Millennium Park, nothing is happening, just a large group of children outside on a nice day. Then he pulls an event number for a PCI?! Then, not more than 20 seconds later, all of Millennium Park goes up and he’s screaming for cars and they’re fighting and pepper spraying each other! You sure have earned those 4 ribbons you’ve got on your dress Uniform Boss.
Everyone, and we mean everyone, knew this was going to go off. There were flyers on line for god's sake telling people (and folks) to come downtown. Someone in command had nearly two-hundred cops on standby, but hey, Car 100 is telling everyone it's just a normal night, nothing going on, and then he's in the middle of a shitstorm he refused to see coming?

I mentioned to my accountant that Indiana is something I'm considering and his response to my tax question was that he thinks they tax pension income and their property taxes aren't that cheap and they have some convoluted local taxes. The property taxes there are cheaper than Illinois, but we are the nearly the worst, if not the worst for property taxes. At least if I move to a free state, I won't be bringing marxist voting tendencies with me. I just wish Tennessee wasn't so far from my family that is remaining here, both sides of the families have been here since the first immigrants right before the civil war.

I mentioned to my accountant that Indiana is something I'm considering and his response to my tax question was that he thinks they tax pension income and their property taxes aren't that cheap and they have some convoluted local taxes. The property taxes there are cheaper than Illinois, but we are the nearly the worst, if not the worst for property taxes. At least if I move to a free state, I won't be bringing marxist voting tendencies with me. I just wish Tennessee wasn't so far from my family that is remaining here, both sides of the families have been here since the first immigrants right before the civil war.

Taxes are a consideration, especially with the pension being taxed in Indiana. Other problem is as most retirees will be filing the standard deduction as it doubled this year, also included in the new tax law is all your taxes, pension, property state and local are capped at $10,000

You can tell in his imagination he fancies himself as some type of military General. The most hilarious was when he would throw hissy fits over the radio for absolutely nothing. I arrived a little before 1100. As I walked through the Daley center I stopped to watch the anti-cops.
Piggy & a Sgt approached. Piggy told me to cross the street. I asked,"Why?" Piggy replied, "FOP belongs across the street."
I'm MW, retired. I was about to unleash 35 yrs of rage against exempts, when I remembered I was carrying a snub and my retirement star & ID. If Piggy ordered my arrest, my stuff would get inventoried. No exempt would ever release these things. In the back of my mind I remembered no one, CCW, retiree or even a off duty PO can be armed while participating in a demonstration. So no CC judge would give back my stuff. I crossed the street.
Later, unbelievably, the anti-cops were in the middle of the fop demonstration, giving TV interviews.
To our west all the anti-police were screaming. WHat happened Piggy???
I did what I could, demonstrate. Good luck to all police. A little advice: STOP CHASEN!

Say what you want about Mike Pigott but, from someone who works in 001, a vast majority of us feel he has our back. He was out there on the front line on Wednesday night and I’m sure he will be out there again this weekend. Furthermore, his numbers are off the charts. What he has done in just one year as a Commander in the first district cannot be ignored. There’s definitely no shortage of lousy and incompetent exempts on this job... Commander Pigott isn’t one of them. He is a free thinker and, as stated before, the crime prevention strategies he’s implemented and their results have been extremely effective and cannot be ignored.

Indiana taxes your pension, my property taxes are 1300 a year, for 7 acres, 2500 square foot house with a 1944 square foot pole barn. So I’m not sure what your tax guy is talking about

Agreed....It's somewhat common sense to me, but you really need to look at the OVERALL tax burden when thinking about moving to another state (property, income and sales taxes). Just because one state taxes pensions does not mean it should automatically be ruled out as a place to retire to. If you're paying $8000,$9000,10,000 a year in property taxes to live in IL, but can live in a comparable house in another state where the prop taxes are 10-20% of that, you may actually save money by moving, even though you may get your pension taxed. Tell your accountant to get his adding machine out!

I teach in a district on the state line and many of my coworkers live in Indiana. The retirees who come in to sub say their accountants also advise them they will have their pensions taxed Indiana and advised them against moving to Indiana. I hear my coworkers talk about taxes in Lake County such as the Lake County tax (which my coworkers have to pay in a lump sum of $800 because it is not coming out of their paychecks) and there are more taxes for infrastructure that will be coming because the roads need to be expanded and the need to build more schools. The property tax is cheaper, but the gas in Crown Point is similar to gas cost in Will county.
Good luck with whatever decision you make. My $0.02 is to stay near family.

Tennessee is a 8 hr drive from Chicago. Distance is not an excuse. A large house is affordable in Tenn. Give your family a place to escape Chicago for a vacation or a weekend trip. There are no excuses for staying in Chicago.

Crime Prevention Strategies? You must believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny as well. It doesn't matter how they skew the statistics, Downtown Chicago is as bad as it's ever been. It saddens me when I talk to tourists and have to tell them, don't walk around downtown after sundown. And at this point, don't walk around downtown during the day either. You'll get lynched by teenagers while 50 officers contemplate how to avoid lawsuits. But that's all OK, because it's safe to ride the red line. There's a car detailed down there at Jackson & State, so you won't get robbed there. They'll just rob you at Harrison & State instead.

Everyone already has their time slot planned before you even hit the box. So if you’re full of sh*t stop giving VRI a bad name. Their presence is actually a good thing we could use more VRI again.
