These assholes voted themselves a pay raise? With almost zero dollars coming in, they voted themselves a pay raise? With unemployment in Illinois topping 16% and well on the way to 20%, they voted themselves a pay raise??
- State Representative Charlie Meier (R-Okawville) was disappointed with the Illinois General Assembly’s action following the emergency session which ended after midnight on May 24th in Springfield. The legislative session ended with lawmakers receiving a pay raise, a budget which spent billions the state doesn’t have and they skipped town without a vote to safely reopen Illinois earlier than Governor Pritzker’s ‘Restore Illinois’ plan.
“With less revenue for state government and record unemployment, it makes zero sense for the legislature to give themselves a pay raise and spend money the state doesn’t have,” said Rep. Meier. “I voted against the state budget because it makes promises the state can’t afford to keep. With billions in debt and less revenue for the state, now more than ever must our state government tighten its belt and stop digging ourselves deeper into debt.”
The State of Illinois owes more than $7.4 billion in unpaid bills, with 74,064 invoices waiting to be paid. Illinois’ estimated revenue for Fiscal Year 2021 which begins July 1, 2020, and ends July 1, 2021 is $36.8 billion. Yet, the Democrat-controlled legislature approved a $42.8 billion budget which included borrowing $5 billion. The legislature anticipates Governor Pritzker will sign the budget very soon.
That's not a budget - that's a roadmap to disaster.

But not Illinois.
Instead, state lawmakers are in line for a roughly $1,800 pay hike, bringing their base salary to more than $71,000 for what is technically a part-time job. These raises would come at a time when 1 in 4 Illinois workers are out of a job.
Illinois state lawmakers already take home the fifth-highest base salary in the nation, according to a 2019 analysis by the National Conference of State Legislatures. Among five other states with “full-time lite” legislatures, Illinois lawmakers already take home the highest pay.
Due to a law passed in 2014 under the leadership of House Speaker Mike Madigan and then-Senate President John Cullerton, lawmaker salaries, operating expenses and pay increases must be specifically prohibited for a given year for the payments to stop. This is what’s referred to as a “continuing appropriation.”

Disaster waiting to manifest itself. I am was told by our trustee in a small collar city in Cook that budget projections reflect a loss of $1 M in revenue. The City’s budget is about $12 M so we lost almost 10% of our budget for the year - all lost from lost sales and income taxes (not property taxes which is our larger revenue source). Unlike us, the State’s budget relies almost exclusively on sales and income taxes - both of which have been destroyed and will continue to suffer for a year more but these fucking bastards gave themselves a pay raise and promised to “balance the budget” with more fucking borrowing? I am positive that the State lost at least 10% of it’s budget which is $4-5 Billion at a minimum.! With the know facts of the loss of 10% plus of your revenue, how the fuck do you pass a larger budget than last year??????!!!!!! Please someone explain this to me?!???????????

I realize the law CLEARLY says the governor may exercise these powers for 30 days. But apparently that's not clear enough for a couple of Democrat nominated federal judges. So instead of stepping up and taking upon themselves the responsibility of their elected offices, the ILGA is going to let this shake out in court. That's pathetic in the extreme.

No one was dispersed from the rally. The police told us they would not interfere with us and would protect us. At one point the police commander told us the mayor wanted us dispersed - to fit the Queen's narrative - and to wrap it up; it was above his head. While we sympathize with his predicament, we did not wrap it up.
We exercised our God-given right to assemble and continued until all of our speakers spoke. The crowd applauded the police for serving us and invited them to arrest us if they were willing to break their oath to uphold the Constitution. No one was arrested, or dispersed.
Some of the team is still here at the park. Chicago Mayor's Office, come down here off your throne. You are a coward. No one has to obey Governor JB Pritzker's unconstitutional decrees, Lori.

I contacted my state rep about this, who voted YEA. She denies voting for a raise, and called me a liar who needs to read more.
Mr. Lightfoot is worrying that police did not use proper tactics breaking up the disturbances in Englewood , she saw video , did not mention her people out of control but did mention police officers may be disciplined for not wearing face masks .
Words of advice from a dinosaur , drive by , lights , siren , vehicle camera , body camera on , use loud speaker to disperse group , per order of Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Governor JB . Make a criminal case report , leave area immediately .
These are uncivilized groups from one parent , many are under influence of alcohol and drugs , many armed .

I think Madigan is counting on the people to vote a constitutional change in the state income tax. If that is done, within a year or so they will tax pensions. That has been the plan all along and was openly talked about 5 years ago, but now seems to be hush hush. The mayor brought this up last year, but then fell silent.
I did not leave the Democratic party...the Democratic party left me...

I pulled the plug and retired to the Arizona desert over two decades ago. I could go on and on why my wife and I congratulate each other every day for our decision to move.
