We thought we were not supposed to make political statements while in uniform. Explain this?
They are from 002. They have two and five years on the job. They are kneeling in front of protestors who were calling for the deaths of police officers.

I find it odd as I drove up the Edens Expressway that every exit was blocked off with barricades. I heard this on 780 AM also. I was curious what had happened, so I checked the individual cities websites. While there I was able to read each city’s message to the citizens regarding the Floyd case in Minneapolis. All expressed deep concern and seemed deeply troubled by the events. Each message was very eloquent and touching. I couldn’t help but wonder if there were no critical or emergency incidents, who are these town trying to keep out exactly?

That is a great question. The Northshore towns all hold protest, informational forums, and release statements about equality, affordable housing, and diversity, yet they stop entry in to their perspective towns. How is that welcoming diversity and promoting equality. Sounds and looks like they want to control who enters and who doesn’t enter their safe little communities. Maybe their vision statements should read that we welcome everyone, maybe. When we feel like it’s alright, possibly.

200 officers hurt during these protests with these protesters and they decide to kneel. First off as a police officer your job is not to take part in or exhibit any political statements while in u inform and on duty. Your job at these protests is to protect the right and speech of the peaceful protestors and to keep the peace and safety for the surrounding public.. period! I saw her name tag which still said she was a PPO. Is she still a PPO or is she just off her status? If she’s off her status and now assigned to 002 then a supervisor better initiate a spar for her not having the correct uniform name plate and unit designator. I have been to numerous uniform stores in the past two or three months. Many of them have remained open so it’s not an excuse that they are closed due to the pandemic because I happen to know of two, one north and one south that have remained open through all of this. This is also an officer safety issue as she is on her knees and cannot remain vigilant over the group or her surroundings. Now she has set a precedent for these protestors to now approach officer to force them to take a knee which of you are watching social media some officers throughout the country are giving into the demands of protestors to kneel. We are the police, we don’t kneel and we don’t give into the demands of protestors. I’m not saying you can’t support their cause because you can, u just can’t do it openly while in duty and in uniform. You can’t be for them or against them.. that is the role of the police, to be equal and neutral in the eyes of the law and to not be persuaded by either side. These two have lost.

REPLACE the name with the officer's STAR NUMBER on the name tag itself.
An officer can give a business card to anyone who wants it; it would have the officer's Star #, Unit and watch that they work.
Currently, if an officer who has a name other than a very common surname can be found on the internet within minutes along with their home address.

Im retired from the job almost 11 years. I'm looking at this picture and shaking my head. I remember the days when federal judges held up eligibility lists after taking the entrance exam. I remember cursing Charles Percy and his nominee to the federal court Prentice Marshall. And then further decrees that allowed applicants to have their criminal histories expunged. I remember alderman challenging the validity of psychologically assessing applicants to the job because too many were deemed unqualified, proved to substance abuse and absenteeism. And then psych screening got tossed. And then the class that came on in 1986, said to have more complaints than any previous group going through the Academy. Another federal judge decision. And so now its devolved into Officers coming on, swearing an oath and deciding to rewrite the rules and cherry pick what laws they'll enforce and which ones they'll ignore. And then of course the merit promotions. The suck holes with clout. Then came the outsiders, the reformers who came from other agencies, who never sat in a beat car in Humbolt Park or sat on a crime scene in Fillmore. And then the rush of new recruits who were fed on TV dramas and slicked their hair with gel, thinking the tedium of writing a narrative that began "In summary, he jumped on me". And these arrogant elitist were going to turn the job around and watch those of us who try to keep this toilet bowl of a city clean. You know the names, McCarthy, Weis and now Brown whose "honored to lead a department from the city that gave the country Michelle Obama". This is the mindset of our leadership, happy to throw you under the bus in a heartbeat to cover their own inadequacies. The sort of shit we see in this photo shouldn't surprise any of us. We saw similar photos a few years back with the two from Gresham taking a knee in the 006th District.
Back in the day, if you got on the job and were a fuck up, you filtered yourself out. Your reputation preceded you into whatever unit you transferred into. Did things go off the rails? Every once in a while. But day in and day out, in districts most considered dumping grounds, you showed up every day. Why? Because of the partners and people you worked with. It only takes a year or two to realize what's what, especially in the patrol division. But the new generation of police, with their sociology an psychology degrees think they can change the world. How many of them working mid nite go to court the next day, to find that their victim from the previous night couldn't be bothered to show up after you did hours of paperwork, complaints, reports, notifications? How long does it take for them to figure out todays victim is really tomorrow's offender.
How many of these new generation police, that were chosen to reflect the diversity of the city have a fucking clue? How many of these 2 and 3 year wonders know how to handle a beef? Over the last nine years I've thought about the job, and the guys I worked with who kept me safe and made sure I got home in one piece. We're all retired now, and have exhausted our supply of war stories and cases we worked on. But I keep looking at that photo and wonder if all the police coming out of the school are gonna be like these kneelers, who drink the kool-aid of those who never dealt with a drunk, a wacko on animal tranquilizer or a stinker. My heart goes out to you. You deserve to work with the best. Someone on their knees isn't gonna be there to protect you, they're clearly on the wrong side. Hopefully you already realize that and will maintain more than a healthy social distance from these assholes.
