Asked about the situation in Bridgeport, a diversifying neighborhood that served as an Irish American power base for the Daley political family, Lightfoot said, “It is absolutely not appropriate for people to take up arms, bats, pipes, whatever in patrolling neighborhoods.”

They proceeded North on Racine but where met near 33rd by Home Owners at which point they turned West into Bridgeport Village. They attempted to turn East on 32nd Place but were again met by home owners standing in front of their buildings. They continued North on Throop Street and the last I saw them a police car was following the young lads. Could they have been census workers?

A true story. In the 6th Dis. Near 87th and Damen (about 1987) a young teen girl was reported missing. Older guys from the block, started drinking and smoking. The girl came home after two days and related that she had been abducted, but could not identify the offender. Her cousin and the guys came to the conclusion that a 16 yr.old kid from a few blocks away had snatched her. They located the teen and tried to hang him from a light post before his family and an off duty cop rescued him. Everything you just touched on in this email was opinion. This being a "systemic" issue is opinion. I am more than happy to provide you with stats showing the problem is beyond just the police. One such stat is as of a few days ago there were slightly over 1207 shootings in Chicago.....the police had exactly FIVE of them (do your research and look into it). This issue goes much deeper than the police and you hanging you hat in that shows your ignorance and lack of willingness to look into or speak up for a different theory.
As for examples...all I have is a citizen who is concerned for the safety of her family trying to find out what the hell is happening around her and coming up dry. We live near WGN and know what the happened around here, no thanks to you. The Costco area was looted, Target was looted (both), CVS....the list goes on. Not one word from you about it. You can try all you want to rewrite history as it unfolds, but you aren't going to be able to. Do as my college journalism advisor taught me and report the news and let people make up their minds based on the facts provided. Vintage White Sox baseball bats have value. For some people, they may be simply too valuable to leave at home.
