Mayor Brandon Johnson held a news conference late Tuesday morning, attended by representatives of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office, after COPA released the body-cam footage.
The mayor called the footage “deeply disturbing.”
“I know this footage is extremely painful and traumatic for many of our city’s residents,” he said. “It will be especially difficult for those of us living in communities where the events depicted occur all too often.
“As mayor, and as a father raising a family — including two Black boys on the West Side — I am personally devastated to see yet another young Black man lose his life during an interaction with the police.”
Johnson said he spoke to Reed’s family over the weekend. “My heart breaks for the family of Dexter Reed,” he said. “They are grieving the loss of a son, a brother and a nephew.”
We feel "deeply disturbed" that yet another cop was shot by a black offender....and we say that knowing we'll be called "racist" because of that.

If the so-called leaders of this city and department would make clear statements condemning the actions of these criminals, and praising the efforts of the police to eliminate a violent offender from the streets of this worthless city, it would send a very strong message. I only watched some of the body cam footage, but it appeared very clear to me that the officer struck by the piece of shit firing at the police was a black man, the same race as the shooter, and mayor fuckhead's black kids. If this guy was willing to shoot a black police officer, who exactly do these morons think he wouldn't shoot without hesitation? Bottom line is he never should've still been on the street after last year's gun arrest. He also isn't very likely to have a valid driver's license. That also wasn't very likely to be his vehicle. He also wasn't wearing a seatbelt, actively ignoring lawful commands from police officers, and attempted to drive away at least two times that I saw after he started shooting. If he was locked up for his previous crime, or didn't choose to violate a whole list of laws, he wouldn't have even seen one police officer that day. Now he's dead, as he should be. 1. Impact/collisions, from minor fender benders to demo derby crashes, for the primary purpose in the latter event to ensure EMT rapid response, and in all events for establishing insurance claims' informations.
2. To initiate law enforcement action on crimes involving vehicles, including, but not limited to, theft, hijacking, drive-by shootings, jump out robberies, hit and run, etc., also insurance relevant informations and on the record established factual claims.
3. To determine/disrupt/terminate unsafe operations of clearly dangerous vehicular operation.
4. To apprehend wanted/warranted criminals, and to impede/disrupt/deny the practicing criminals from plying their trades.
5. Any and all other emergencies requiring EMT rapid response and/or law enforcements involving violence.
Traffic stops for revenues are point of view experienced by civilized civilians as being pocket pickings for tbe politicals' benefits. Any who want to whine about this civilian pov on this, proceed to do so.
Parkers are the same, except for fire hydrants, disabled reserved, blocking of streets/alleys/driveways, bus stop zones and the like.

Then this non compliant individual decides to fire his gun at individuals he knows to be police officers. In the course of shooting at the police he hits one of them. In response to this individual’s poor decision to try and murder 5 on duty police officers he gets shot and killed. Great job by the coppers. Hopefully, they all get ribbons and promotions, but not so fast, there’s a bit of a problem. The problem is that police stopped this guy for a seatbelt violation or so the media is reporting. Now the shift has turned to why the police stopped this person and how a minor traffic violation was the cause of this guy’s death. Hmmmm, doesn’t make sense to me , but ok. If you’re a clear minded person and not swayed by double talk and bull shit you would know that if you point or fire a firearm at the police you deserve whatever the good Lord has in store for you and if that includes death then so be it. I back the mayor, this is simple. The mayor stated that no one has the right to shoot at the police. I am tasked with protecting the mayor's house and the mayor has always been decent and respectful. Citizen here. Thanks for all you do. Trust me: there are so many of us who see through this reporting. The images used, the minimization of risk to police: it’s infuriating. People have had it. That’s why it’s quiet. No citywide protests. No marches. Quiet. The 2020 protesters learned their lesson: you need cops. Hopefully we won’t lose any more cops. Thanks for all you do. Foxx did say that charges are possible. The activists want the officer stripped as does COPA. No telling how this will work out. The activists talked about " proportionality" in return fire. There is nothing in the state criminal code that mentions that word. One bullet is deadly force as are 96 bullets. If deadly force is justified then it does not matter.

As a detective (now retired) who worked on the Van Dyke shooting, I can attest that the CCSAO was obsessing about the 16 shots. I kept telling them that that was a moot point. If the first shot is justified (which it was) then the rest are irrelevant. We all know how that worked out. Democrats hate the police.
