Alder-Candyass

So mere days after this happened:

  • Ald. Jim Gardiner (45th Ward) agreed to pay $157,500 to settle a lawsuit claiming he violated the First Amendment by blocking six critics from his official Facebook page in 2021, court records show. The six plaintiffs –  [...] – will each get $4,000, with the remaining $133,500 covering their legal fees, according to a copy of the settlement agreement obtained by WTTW News.

Adele Nichols, the plaintiffs’ lawyer, said the settlement was the largest reached in a case related to a public official’s regulation of a social media page.

“Social media sites like Facebook provide the public a powerful tool to petition their elected officials and make their voices heard,” Nicholas said in a statement. “Elected officials can’t selectively ban people who disagree with them.”

The Contrarian discovered this (note the highlighted portion):

This after voters asked questions about those monstrous salary "increases" or bonuses or pro-rated giveaways of money that would have been better spent on pothole repair.

Seems someone has thin skin.

Not a fan of Sposaro, but I think he is clear here.

If he censored comments-Big problem!

I do not see censorship, I see a public message board.

Those plaintiffs were all close to the previous alderman John Arena. Who was the biggest POS to ever sit on city council. He also would toss his wife around and blame it on his Ambien.

The civil court system which is designed, run, maintained by lawyers has for years destroyed the fabric of society. Unless of course a 747 drops a wheel in my yard causing me years of suffering.

Everyone who is involved are connected to who will control the aldermanic position of the 45th ward. They are ALL progressive looney Democrats. The attorney specializes in civil rights and is the director of Illinois Voices for Reform, check them out. If you have time check out all of the players on the Il. Bd. of Elections-Contributions and past articles in the Nadig News papers and the facebook pages of the players. This is like the saga of the Hatfields & McCoys, it’s not going to end. Too bad if the city has to pay out this lawsuit. There needs to be people who will run as Independents and Republicans and voters who will support them before this crap ends. Voters have woken up nationally.

I hope they all go to prison, at the very least, they need to give back that money to the people or general fund.

Sposato ran for alderman on being the anti-Elmwood Park crew, William JP Banks, and John Rice as the 36th and then 38th Ward Alderman. But, afterr his first two years, he became just like them.

Nicky only takes care of those in his ward that blindly support him.

Didn't Nicky get into some kind of ethics problem for posing with the CFD truck in the past. But here he is again, posing with the CFD truck on his official aldermanic Facebook photo.

I live in his ward, and he does nothing outstanding,,,, vehicles are always speeding up and down the streets on Irving Park and Cumberland and Montrose (not too far from his house) and maybe once a month the beat car will be in the area. I see more of the county cars around here than Chicago

So, my question on this settlement , does the alderman pay the court settlement himself or does it come out of his campaign fund ?

So $24K of the $157K+ goes to the 'victims'...?

That's outrageous, why are the victims getting so much...!?!?

We do all the work...

It's one thing to selectively ban certain individuals from posting on a FB page where anyone else can generally post, which is why that lawsuit was lost. But simply shutting off ALL comments, from anyone... that seems legit enough.

The bill, HR 82, passed the Senate on Dec. 20. It hit President Joe Biden’s desk on Dec. 27. Biden has 10 days from receipt of the bill to sign it into law, ClickOrlando reported.

If he does not sign it within the 10-day period and Congress is not in session, the bill will automatically be vetoed, preventing it from becoming law.

HA! Sposato cares about Sposato. It's easy to support the police when a huge majority of them live in his district, but when rubber hits the road, he's a coward. For 3 election cycles, he supported the author of the SAFE-T Act, Rob Martwick, over police officers. His pro-police act is just that, an act.
