Dana won't leave until he's ready. His ego is too big to let anyone think he was defeated. Thats what happens when you think you are the only game in town. I say Nov 15
I SAY NEXT YEAR, THAT WILL GIVE HIM
HIS THREE YEARS FOR A NICE RETIREMENT!.
I say he will announce mid December, ride out the Holidays and Start the New Year off with the County.
He Just resigned. Saw him walking out with a Box. Its 1433hours now.
What's the Box's name...Shameka, Seanetta???
his appointment date is 1 Nov 1977
If I can have two bets
Ill take 15 Nov 2005 or 15 Jan 2006
Congrats to Ralph PRICE!!!!! 016 new commander!!! It will be official on Friday (probably after 1700hrs)
The price is right! $$$
We hear Price had to sell his manhood to get the Gold Star! And the Nuts too.
OH SAY IT'S NOT TRUE RALPHIE! If it is I will just puke. Price a Cmdr. The cruelest of all jokes---Woe is me Woe is me! J.O. of all times!
Dana, next year so he can pick up the v/days and other days due.
1) Dana Starks isn't going anywhere
2) Sullivan is still the Commander of 016 (He is on a temporary detail)
Starks ain't going nowhere. Also, it is possible we could get someone worse in his place.
WORSE than Starks??? You must be high!!
Starks always has a job with reverennt meeks.
They still have to replace Sullivan in 016.. Its more than a temp. detail. On the record he will still be "assigned" to 016. I hear Ralph Price is already putting his stuff in the Commander's office.
otis needs another year for his pension, price should be acting til then.
Who does Sullivan work for now? Still CPD? Or is it another City Dept?
What's the matter? You white guys afraid another brother will take Dana's place? Grow up and come into the last century and get away from your prejustices.
prejustices??? Another product of the Chicago Public School system.
and a merit boss too
If you can find a competent brutha...
Yeah, you white guys with your prejustices thinking that brothas like Dana be stoopid and shit!
After all he be good friends with that genius/puss hound area Deputy, maybe he gits da spot.
LMAO!!!!!
Enough! Knock off the race-baiting bullshit. Our best coppers come in all colors and both genders.
For better or worse, I don't know squat about Starks but leave his race out of it.
When the shit hits the fan, we're ALL BLUE!
Tru Dat,
You should have been thrilled if Everett Johnson showed up at your shooting when he was a street deputy.
A white dick
(I like how that sounds)
Rumors from 35th St. as of today:
Cmdr Sodini (012)to ADS of IAD
ADS Kirby (IAD)to Chief of OCD
Lt. Naleway(IAD) to Cmdr of 012
Cmdr Jackson ( 011) to take Dep Chief Radke's spot before end of year.
Sergeants class put on indefinite hold pending outcome of Federal "merit" investigation.
Cmdr of 003 being forced to retire ASAP after an endless list of assorted atrocities dating back the last 6 years begin to slowly be proven as factual.
More to come. Remember, don't bet money on these rumors, but some seem very likely.
Who's getting Area One Commander,
isn't it time for a change?
They will bring back Retired Cmrd. Joe Curtin for Area 1. He's got some debt's to settle over there.
If Sodini gets IAD, he'll have to bring Lt. Michelle (HOTTIE) Engstrom with him. She has always been a big follower of him. Wink Wink, Nudge Nudge.
You must have got to 012 five minutes ago if laying that weak shit out there. Regis & Kathy Lee were the real love affair.
FROM THE DESK OF THE A/1 CDR:
I have long way to go before I straighten up Area 1. I've spent the last year and a half trying to turn the best Lt on this job into the kinda useless fucking Lt I was, but he just won't break. If Farrell would just take a promotion then I could complete the destruction of this unit. Thank you ahead of time to those people who will get on here and defend me as a nice lady.
P.S.
Dave Friel has a great ass.
I ran into a lady today and when she found out I was a copper she asked me about an incident up in 016 in which the residents of a building near Lawrence/ Cumberland were so out of control with drug dealing, noise, etc., etc. that Dep. Chief Maher had to respond to because 016 wouldn't do anything. Any info?
Good morning,
I see that the name of Lt. John B. Farrell was again raised in a previous post. Of those outstanding veterans who remain on the job, his role as a mere homicide lieutenant (Area 1) is a disgrace to excellence. In my opinion, the CPD has none better for the very top spot.
Unfortunately even Farrell has his limitations: his passion for working the streets and balls as big as Montana. I regard him as the poster boy for CPD EXCELLENCE DENIED. His honor precludes him selling out for a bigger paycheck.
I've decided to make one exception to the confidentiality of the ACTUAL results of the EXAMSCAM lieutenants' list. While Farrell was promoted as #42 on the bogus list, the fact is that he was among eleven sergeants, two now deputy chiefs, that had a PERFECT SCORE on the LEGIT components of the exam.
The man's been shot, has worked the streets of Fillmo' with distinction and is arguably the very best of the best that remain on this fucked up job.
While he could understandably be an arrogant, obnoxious asshole, he is a low-key, modest guy. We also made dick together (legit!!) in the first class of 1970.
The mayor should give Farrell the choice of any damn spot on the CPD. Personally, I think he'd be an excellent Chief of Detectives, often out on the street by choice. Farrell is too wise a man to take a higher spot.
IF I was still on the job (I'm retired), this would be the first time anybody could accuse me of "sucking up." The fact is that I am merely stating the truth without any agenda.
(P.S: John. You owe me a double sawbuck a month in a plain envelope. Leave it with my doorman.)
FARRELL 4 CHIEF OF DICKS!
I worked for John Farrell for almost 10 years off and on. I wish I could write something as eloquent about the man as Sgt Northside did. Thank you. I'd follow John Farrell anywhere, but afterward he'd say I was next to him.
I was there that night on Barry Avenue, when John was shot twice by a drunken, Daniel Alverez with a 1911 .45. John's partner, Mike Malone emptied his S&W Mod 39 9MM into Alverez and his brother.
For a while Daniel Alverez looked like he'd recover from his wounds at IL Manosic Hospital. A month later infection set in and another scumbag went to Hell.
John's wounds were horrible, I know he was in terrible pain. As a former Army medical corpsman I doubted that he'd be able to walk again well enought to continue as a cop.
John Rallied on to a great career. Too bad I never got to work with him.
Results of the 1969 Detective Examination.
Patrolman John B. Farrell (020) scored a "98" to tie for fifth place on the city-wide dicks' list.
Holy shit! Who keeps copies of personnel orders from 1969? I've got a few old records.
Lt. John Farrell is TOO GOOD to be exempt.
farrell's over-rated. just leave him at area 1
Juan Farrell por el jefe de detectives...AHORA!
Viva la policia!
Juan uno #1. Si Si Juan. Olay!
Lets put a Dick where it should be, up a boss's ass. Viva la Greek!
This guy sounds like our version of Audy Murphy and I say that with no disrespect intended. Tell us more about when he was shot. I don't remember it.
See 10:16:49 AM post
What's the matter 1:19 pm? Did old John call you out because you didn't know the name of your homicide victim a month into the investigation? I'm sure you'll catch the offender cruising 018 four hours out of every tour.
The Shooting of John Farrell
One really nice night I was off duty sitting in my new Motor Trend Magazine, Car of The Year with a girl friend. You ask what was that wonderful car? Why it was none other than the 1971 Chevrolet Vega! Motor Trend Magazine has been on my shit list ever since.
The girl friend was an exceptionally hot, student nurse living at the Thomas O Wallace nurses residence at the Illinois Masonic Hospital located in the 800 block of West Wellington. My little nurse had a curfew and had to be in the facility at a certain time. We would spend the last 20 minutes involved in a mutual anatomy lesson in my cramped car until she had to check in.
There was a very tall chain link fence behind the nurse’s residence and the rear of a large three story court style building located at 841 W Barry. Suddenly, I heard shots, then laughter and voices speaking in Spanish. I sent my nurse into the dorm building and told her to call the police. Then I heard someone yell, “Police officer, you come here!” Then I heard two bursts of gunfire. I could see muzzle blasts in the dark, but I could not tell who was who. I saw no uniforms. On the ground I saw a figure on the ground that appeared to be shot. Later I would learn that was John Farrell.
I saw another altercation with muzzle blasts on the steps. I later learned that was Mike Malone taking care of business with his nine shot S&W Model 39, 9MM. Because of the tall fence I could not get close enough and that was the best since I could not tell what was going on because of the darkness.
The 10-1 call with the shots fired, officer down must have gone out quickly because the cavalry arrived as fast as I’ve ever seen. The old really cool baffle sirens-that most Chicago cops on the job today have never heard were mixed with the sound of the newer electronic sirens.
I ran around to the Barry side and John Farrell was shot through his right Thigh and had a second gapping wound near his collarbone. He was bleeding badly. He was being tended by at least four uniformed officers. Nearby I could see an old model, Colt Trooper .357 magnum. That was John’s service revolver.
Mike Malone was uninjured but full of adrenalin and standing on the steps next to the handcuffed brother of the shooter. You could see the bones of both of his kegs sticking out through this offender’s skin. Malone’s rounds incapacitated this offender.
Upstairs more officers grabbed the wounded shooter, Daniel Alverez. Alverez had five gunshot wounds and should have been killed but for the crappy round nose ammunition the department insisted officers use in those days.
Officers gently carried Alverez down the steps from either the second or third floor. I couldn’t imagine what that thumping sound was as they Alverez down to a waiting wagon. He was transported for medical care less than a block away at the IL Masonic emergency room.
At the hospital there was the expected scene of pandemonium. Two offenders with gun shot wounds and of course John Farrell. John was getting his clothes cut off as they put the oxygen mask on him and connected an IV in each arm. John was in pain.
In the nearby room with Daniel Alverez, clumsy cops kept accidentally getting in the way of his medical treatment. That’s when the nurses and doctor got pissed. They diplomatically had the on scene supervisor reduce the number of officers “helping” Daniel Alverez.
I remember Area Six robbery dick, Chuck Green going through Alverez’s pants pocket. He found a fully loaded 1911 .45 magazine that matched the gun they recovered. Area Six, GA dick Ed Chorba who would later be killed in a crash of a private plane he piloted was doing some of the paper and took my information and I left.
John Farrell was in my prayers that night. I was sure he was through as a cop. I knew that that .45 slug shattered his femur. The second would was not such a big deal. He would live but a long recovery and lots of therapy was in his cards. Coming back to work was a question that Dr. Carroll of the Medical section would ponder for many months. Dr. Carroll thought for sure that a return to duty would never happen. John Farrell fooled Dr. Carroll and everyone else. Eventually John Farrell mended well enough to return and hit the streets.
As for Daniel Alverez, he stayed under guard from the old 019 District (Town Hall). My friend Jimmy O’Donnell was dumped there from Area Six Robbery. Jimmy was in a bad mood for many months too. His first assignment in patrol was to baby-sit this wannabe cop killer. Every day Alverez got stronger. He was quite a ladies man and soon became a hit with the nurses. The nurses treated the scumbag better than Jimmy O’Donnell. The parish priest from St. Sebastian would visit and bless this guy who was going to spend at least a decade in the IL Dept. of Corrections. It looked as though Alverez was going to recover faster than John Farrell.
Then one day Alverez developed a fever, chills and was no longer smiling. The hospital staff worked hard loading their patient with antibiotics. Jimmy O’Donnell’s mood was getting better every day, as things were not going so well for his prisoner. After a three-day week end Jimmy found himself in a beat car, his prisoner and no longer needed a police guard.
We all learned from this shooting that out secondary weapons should be .45s. Soon every cop on the North side was sporting a .45 or a .44 magnum.
The dept. didn't even give Farrell a blue star ribbon, at least back then.
9:25:03 pm
You missed my joke in my 1:19:03 pm post. I said that Lt. Farrell is over-rated and to keep him in Area 1. My post meant that we don't want to lose the lt. because he's such a great and capable boss. So chalk it up as unanimous. Only a liar could say something bad about Lt. Farrell. It would be Area 1's loss but everybody knows he'd be the best chief...maybe ever.
Lighten up and don't get paranoid. Farrell is probably the most respected lt. the city's got. Area 1 just doesn't want to lose him. Most of the bosses are a--holes.
Unless there is someone who can give a reason to the contrary, Lt. John Farrell is THE popular, if not unanimous choice for CHIEF OF DETECTIVES!
Also, like me, he is "a nice person".
Agreed. John Farrell and Maria Maher are both "nice persons".
Now, based on their QUALIFICATIONS, who would make the best chief of detectives?
I'm way late to this post, but I'd vote for John Farrell. Besides, he's a hottie (one of the few and far between ones on this job).
