Fun and Games

Someone calling themselves "sos goof" has posed a challenge to us and our readers: Name the five exempts that currently hold the career rank of Sergeant or below. We were aware of two, so this ought to be interesting.

Someone already named Sgt. Keating, former CO of the mayor's detail, later commander of TRU and current boss of 001.

No one named G/S Cronin in the comments section, though we've written a bit about him after his accident. Anyone have updates on him or Commander Murphy?

Who can name the other three?

Cdr. Keating is a Lt. He worked at the Park District as head of their security and CPD rep. That is a Lt. position.

Boyce came over from City Hall after working in the SA office. Longtime Daley staffer. He was a P.O. early on and got a law degree. Was an ASA and then an admin staff member.

I don't think that qualifies.

When the time comes he'll be gone just like Shavers.

Mayor's Chief of Staff, Huberman was a PO who made ADS. Don't know if he's sworn anymore

Yeah, but remember that Huberman was GIVEN the career service rank of LT, just in case anything happens and he decides to come back to CPD....Another "back door" ceremony at City Hall

Supposedly everyone who went over to the OEMC with Huberman was kept on the CPD books... except Velasques.

Not sure if Huberman is still on the CPD books, but this is an issue for any of you guys if anyone ever gets offered an exempt position by Daley's boys, the career service will be all that protects you after Daley & co. get indicted.

Which is to say, don't ever give up that career service for any other job in city administration. Never ever ever.

How come any PO who now wants to take a leave of absence for a obtaining a degree, heading to another city job etc can no longer take that leave but all the exempt rank people get to have that option? Remember a few months back the city was saying that people who had taken a leave of absence to obtain a degree would not be able to extend that leave beyod one year. I personally had a chance to try something else with the city but was told I could not take a leave I would have to seperate employment. They said it was because they couldl not hold you on the books for two different departments. Now I am starting to wonder who do I have to talk to to get the secret benefits that some people do

08:51 is correct--Keating is still a SERGEANT.

Ron Huberman has to be the biggest tool in this department. Not only is he just a P.O. but his ego wanted the city council to by pass the corrupt system that everyone else has to follow except the priviledge few to allow him to become a career rank of lieutenant. Forget about testing/merit for sergeant and then lieutenant. He did not even have to do that merit bullshit. He just need the city council to promote him in a secret session. He told the city was leaving unless they gave him his rank. The city considers him to valuable to lose. The people who actually work with him will tell you that he isn't all that he is suppose to be. What a hersey highway fraud. P.O. to ADS. that takes the cake.

The FOP voted to give the inside FOP guys an extra $400 a month in addition to their salaries, which are D8 and D5 (Cheif's Pay and Capt.'s Pay).

Let's do the math with the new contract.

Mark Donahue - $142,000 a year in salary plus uniform allowance, plus duty availability and the $4,800 a year he gets being a member of the FOP Board. In 2007 at the end of the contract Donahue will be at almost $170,000 (plus a car and the FOP credit card). Isn't life grand at FOP.

Dougherty, DiMaria, Bella, Capparelli, Davis and Fallon will be at on average over a $110,000 a year. They needed the extra $400 a month a piece. The $400 for the inside guys equals $33,600 a yaer and equals $100,800 over their term of office. FOP money well spent - right. Nothing ever appeared in the newsletter about the $33,600 a year. I wonder why.

O'Donnell was a Lt in the Bomb and Arson Unit...there is so much misinformation here...any legitimate information will also be discarded. Cronin's rank when he was promoted to Commander was PO as Gang Specialist (either D2 or D2A depending on the contract)Keating is a Sgt....but if you ever were in the 010...and heard of "The Bunch"...led by Buzzy Eichler...Keating's name would lead as being aggressive, determined and a great cop.

To 11/02/2005 :
Just because you call someone Lieutenant does not mean that they really made Lt.
Look at Tobias. He is not an ADS yet everyone thinks he is.
Shaver is still on the books as ADS until Jan 1, 06. Two people cannot hold the same position in the same Unit at the same time. Tobias has business cards and all printed up with ADS on them - yet he is only getting Commander's pay! He has NOT officially been promotted to ADS. If in doubt, check out his title code.

O'Donnell was a sgt, lt, and cpt. before making Commander so shut it already, look for him to go back to B/A as soon as Jones leaves.

P.S. he's a great guy.

true dat, buddy. why anyone would want to go to sos these days is beyond me. the few good coppers they have are all so bitter from having their necks stepped on for too long. the powers that be, took a once great unit, filled it with suckholes, and destroyed it.

For the sake of accuracy, how about taking O'Donnell off of your list. He is not the fifth. I came on the job with him, was promoted to detective with him and he continued to be promoted and was most recently a captain. There is no reason why he should be dumped into that category and then dumped on.
