UPDATE: We didn't get this list up right away for a few reasons. One, it's a large list, 71 names. Two, it's incomplete - this is for the "Investigative Familiarity Training" only. It is NOT mandatory, so a number of people may have turned it down AND anyone who made it from the D units (legit or "merit") isn't listed here. Three, we certainly aren't going to post it from a city computer if we can help it. Four, family comes first here. This is a hobby. We had things to do when we got home and this could wait. So if anyone else had the time or inclination to type it, they'd be welcome to post it in the comments section and we'd just copy/paste it later. Otherwise, you gotta wait until we get to it. Such is life.

Looking at the list you can identify pretty easily who are the merit choices. I know I should not let it bother me but it sucks knowing that when I take a promotional exam I am already down 30 percent because I dont have the right pedigree. I hope those who made it on merit can look at them selves in the mirror in the morning knowing they stole a spot from someone who actually studied and did well on the test.
I will have no problem looking into the mirror. Especially after I start getting those supervior quarterly checks. MERITS RULE!!!!

Say what you want but I'll tell you this. Gail Hagen was not and is not a meritorious Sgt. As a matter of fact they were going to make her meritorious 2 or 3 classes ago but because she was so high on the list they felt that appointing her would be a waste of a pick. She also happens to be one of the hardest working persons I know and that is her problem. She works so hard and has such a strong work ethic that when her co-workers don't work at her level, which few people can do, she becomes frustrated. That will be her problem as a new Sgt. She will have to learn that the vast majority of people on this job do not work as hard as she does and that they become offended when a supervisor asks them to do their job. Once she accepts this and learns how to work around it she will be fine. But to call her a do nothing, housemouse or meritorious Sgt. is incorrect and shows what little you know about those that you work with.

It’s alleged that there will be a total of 100 Sgts in a class that will be starting 6 Feb 06. The list today does not include the detectives that will be making it off the list or as a merit selection. It was mentioned by a good source at the FOP that the list that will include the names of the Detectives will not be made public until the class is ready to begin their formal sgt training. I think that is really sucks that the dicks have to wait another 3 months to find out if they made it….

What a bunch of bitter, crying little bitches you guys are! Grow up and accept the fact that some people are smarter than you. Or at least test better. In my unit I know two guys who are on the list. One made it off the test and the other is "merit", and NOT a housemouse jagoff.
A little history on merit. In the early 90s both a Lt. & Sgt.s exam were administered after a 5 mil dollar study by the Daley administration that concluded the only way to have a fair exam was to eliminate all departmental influence. Those exams were administered completely by an outside agency with zero involvement of the city or department. The test was devised by experts to clearly identify those components necessary for the postion. There was an oral give into a tape recorded and then evaluated in another state. There was a written and an inbox. The results were posted and a Lt.s class was immediately put into the training division. But, of course, the numbers didn't come out right. Here's the surprising part though. When the expected complaints about under representation in the class started coming in, mayor Daley said "tough, they should have studied harder. They can study harder now and try again next time." He even mentioned it took him three times to pass the bar. It was a miracle. And, it lasted about a day. After pressure was brought on him, he did an immediate about face and the next thing you knew, supt Rodriguez put 13 merit Lt.s into the class (3 LAPA officials among them of course). And, thus was born merit promotions. Those 13 (with one or two exceptions) were total clout and it continues today.
Finish the story--someone filed suit and the "Merits" were not promoted from that list. They were however, promoted from the next list in Nov 1998, and the rest is history.
SERGEANT'S D-3 PAY:
Does anyone know the story with the "federal money" that the city must use to pay for the newly promoted sergeants? We heard the city must officially promote the new sgts. by next month or the city will lose this money?
If the city decides do start paying these guys when they are no where near to becoming real sergeants will that open up a door for past classes of sergeants?

Actually the 13 "merit" were promoted in 1998 or thereabouts but were GIVEN seniority back to 1995 due to THEIR lawsuit -they also got $$( I thought was totally ridiculous, but the city actually caved on that because they WANTED to make them.... )

The fire union posts who gets promoted,including merit, why can not the FOP? Also, with the promotions, Majercyk and Voight, the FOP will two Sgts. on the Board of Directors. If they wanted the promotion system to be legit, they have the military models of promotion to follow. Those models take everything from fitness, awards, and education as well as results of an exam. But they dont want it legit because they couldnt get their house mouses or desk jockeys in that way. It is not legit because they dont want it to be.

No, for sergeant meritorious is set at 30%. I barely made this class off the list, 20% would have saved me some sleepless nights...
If bosses lost their ability to court good-looking women into their offices with promises of straight days and possible promotion.....their power and allure would erode and the police department would collapse(so bosses think)....another reaason that nothing is on the legit.

Okay, so you don't have spell check in the beat car. But in your many years of education, did you ever hear of a dictionary? How about a small pocket dictionary? You could buy a small pocket one for about $5.00 at most book stores. And, Lord knows, from your extensive vocabulary, you don't have to worry about Oxford's Old English Dictionary!

To the 12:44 poster. I'm sure that your parents are beaming with pride about how you chose to utilize your private/secular education in obtaining what is the equivalent of a streets and san job.
to 11:34....streets and san? Maybe, but just maybe the writer is making 100K plus (salary, overtime, quarterly duty pay), almost 7 weeks of vacation (reg. vacation, extra pers. days, etc.); one full year's medical time salary (every two years); the opportunity to draw a pension after 20 years (age 50), and some career service protections (i.e., if the boss says, hey get me some coffee, guess what he hears in response?) Same on your job?
Does anybody know of any detectives, either off the list or meritorious, that have actually been notified by personnel that they are going to make the sergeants class that will be starting 6 Feb 06? Personnel says everyone has been notified and the FOP says that the dicks will not be notified until the week before the class starts...

Yep, 11:34:16 AM, my parents would be proud of me, that the education I received resulted in me being able to spell and not look like an absolute moron when I write articles or reports.
Actually, 2:18 hits it right on the money. When I came on the job, (revolversaurus would be a good name) police officers in beat cars were taught to be self-sufficient. They were respected because they were able to make a decision without calling for a supervisor. That is why that although it is a well-paying job it is not exactly like a streets and san position. That self-sufficiency is what you do not see anymore on this job. Beat officers are afraid to do anything and supervisors are afraid to agree with and/or rely on a beat officers opinion.
The point of my original reply was that officers should take enough pride in their work that they write reports that reflect a pride in themselves and, at least, have a dictionary nearby. Oh, well, I guess this went over your head, 11:34:16 AM.
To 1:32 A.M. Wow I must have it a nerve! It wasn't that it went over my head, rather, playful jousting. If one feels that in order to articulate a point of view, he/she needs to tear down another than I believe you become fair game. I personally have encountered ineptitude/laziness/lack of pride across the board
Det.s have not been phoned by FOP. They will find out the week before the actual SGT. training begins, which is said to be in Feb.
what a joke this list is when an a-hole like CALDWELL, Galen 114, is given a Sgt.position, never worked one day on the streets. Acdemy suck hole, law school, and then the Supt. Office, what a way to kick the working Police in the Ass.
Galen worked 002 on midnights before going to the academy.
