Once Again, FEAR OUR BLOG!
On Halloween, we posted about fugitive Randy Rencher being spotted sticking up banks in Ohio. We speculated that this was one of those situations that had the feel of ending badly. Well, we can only assume that Mr. Rencher reads our blog (Hi Randy!), realized he couldn't escape the long arm of the law forever and surrendered to a bartender in Cleveland. We will take full credit with frightening him into turning himself in and add Rencher to our list of quasi-celebrities who read SecondCityCop (joining local luminaries Frank Main, Fran Speilman, Michael Shakman, Noelle Brennan, retired Sergeant John Northern and FOP's Mark Donahue). Total blame will remain with Cook County Corrections, however.
Coverage of his surrender from the sun-times; Channel2; Channel 5; Channel 7; tribune.

Now SCC tell the truth....it was caps all along that brought him in wasnt it??
Real geniuses CC Sheriff hires
Why doesn't the county privatize the jail? Can you imagine the money we would save? Jailguards should be making 8.00 hr not 70 grand to gangbang and social work the scum Cook County has to offer..Why are jailguards allowed to carry guns? Hey Sheahan lose the baggage of jailguards.....Pull over a jailguard and he claims to be police. Hmmmm think about money county could save.
ABC7 news aired an interview of Rencher.
Who are the idiots in the FBI that allowed this piece of garbage to answer reporter's questions? Is Rencher now a celebrity?
News cameras filmed the "perp walk" not at a detention facility, but as agents were escorting Rencher out of the bar where he surrendered. Hence, either the media arrived at the scene while the FBI were placing him into custody (doubtful) of the FBI arranged this session with the media to parade their catch of day. How desperate for attention is the FBI office in Cleveland?
To 12:22 poster:
RENCHER was in a tavern in Clevland watching t.v. when a report came on the television about him being wanted. He then told the people in there he was the wanted guy. When they didn't believe him he placed a 9 .mm on the bar.
The bar people called the authorities and the t.v. station.
Lets start post "Why jail should be privatized and jailguards (I mean peace officers deputy sheriffs) should be let go?????
I bet the FBI front-cuffed him. Tools......
With some of the screwups that's been committed by the some of our officers, I don't think we have much room for criticisum.I don't see Sheehan and "Crook County" paying out multimillion dollar settlements for wrongful death, brutallity, and incompetance in a murder investigation. The moral of this story is; Police in glass Departments shouldn't throw stones. The arrogance of some people on this job is amazing. There's no Law Enforcement agency local, county, state,or federal who hasn't stepped in deep s**t at one time or another.
Well said!!!!!!!
having never been an employee of cook county, but having spent many hours in the lockup at 023 ( with the key) I will say this
Being a jaiguard is a very stressful dangerous dirty shit job
You spend your entire 8 hours smelling some jagoffs dity feet or bad breath.
They need to be baby sitted because even if they arent interested in causing trouble they cant do anything for themselves
They need the turnkey for everything
I salute them Its a shit low paying job I wouldnt want it
Many of them are doing it waiting to get in the Big Show the CPD
Thyey can have it and are entitiled to every penny the county pays them
Sure........why not privatize the Police Dept. If saving money is the ultimate concern...sounds a little different when its your livlihood at stake!!!!!
To The Privatize the county Guy: You are a fool, we are the police first but we are union brothers with them, you want to break the teamsters (county) union in order to make a silly point about some jail guard that probably fucked your wife, take it easy cheesy!

EXCELLENT POST! I've seen some things done by our very own that Hollywood could never think up! Hell, just look through some of the posts on this blog for the 5th grade mental capacity of some of our own! Pointing fingers is the last thing anyone on CPD should be doing.
Privatize the Jail? Have you ever been in Cook County Jail? Take a tour tough guy. By the way you can't bring your gun inside, and your star doesn't mean shit either. You're probably one of the tough guys never been in a fight in his life but now you're the po-lice and you're the baddest cat on the block. If you ever locked up a felon they all end up at County(the largest single site County jail in the country). Usually 75-125 per deck depending on time of the year and overcrowding, now it's 1 C.O. vs. 75-125 until back-up comes. Why carry a gun? Because some GD,VL,LK etc. doesn't like the fact that he didn't get food, comissary or the ass kicking he deserved guess whose boys are tracking down a C.O.? By the way look around idiot(s) plenty of former "jailguards" on CPD, we're the ones that know how to search dude properly, because if you miss something in the joint it can kill you. Anytime you want to step-up and walk a tour in Division 10 Max security @ Cook County bring what ever street fighting skills and some balls 'cause dude on the deck who is looking at a lot of time not only sees fear, he smells it.....like the load in your pants.
Being a former jail guard, I will tell you why they carry guns. They are surounded by the biggest assholes in the city all day long. They have to say and do unpleasant things to these people. They have alot more need of a gun than do about 1/3 of the "police" on this job who are in essence armed office workers. Cook County C.O.s don't make 70 grand a year. The job is not brain surgery but the deserve what they get because of the nasty nature of the job. We have plenty of house cleaning to do before we can take issue with anyone else about hiring or employee conduct.
I was jailguard for three years in Max security fuck nuts. I had two decks 72 on each with no backup. I also had a Capt that was a Vice Lord that ran division and Sgt that was GD. So fuck you I saw what went on there and I couldnt wait to get out. 75% of jailguards are gangbangers and believe me I know. Each division has three capt making 90 grand 5 lt makin 80 grand and 10 sgt making atleast 70 grand. Jailguards make at least 55 grand and there are a shitload of them. They dont do shit. When decks went up black guards would stand back and refuse to fight as the rest of us had to take on the decks! Think before you speak jerk. You would get better qualified jailguards if you privatized it. Jailguards have own IAD but they dont do shit because they would have no jailguards left. No they are not the police and I will tell them so, I never said I was when I worked in that hellhole. Ill give some of them credit cause there are some good guys there and I still talk to them but there arent that many.....
Who was it that posted working in Divsion 10 cause I probably "worked" with you....Were you part of the group that tried makin off duty pinches and wearing shoulder holsters to work? You werent the police then and jailguards are NOT the police now!!!!!
da mare's comments may be found at bottom of "The List". UBI EST MIA?
Worthless.....you picked a great name for yourself! There were plenty of shitheads working in the jail, but everyone in the jail would be worthless if they privatized. I never thought O was the police when i worked there and I didn't try to make off duty arrests either. I was like a lot of guys.... just waiting to get out. I bet you thought you deserved your salary when you worked there, or did you donate it to charity? What is the point of your post? You complain about the conditions there which must mean that its a dirty job that deserveds pay and the privlige of off duty carry, then you go on to contradict yourself! Just need to rant, Huh?
To: The Spelling Police
I am sorry for the above typos.
Its a stupid job that anyone making 7 hr can do..Dont raise my taxes to hire more jailguards at 60 grand a crack!!!!! And if you remember jailguards get sued for shootings off duty, gangbanger jailguards shootin each other at county's expense take the guns away too.....
once again only because you work in a specific div. of the jail doesnt make you a bad ass. I think what some of the posts are trying to bring across is that a correctional officer is basically a "guard" and a court officer is a "baliff" and a sheriff police is the "police" just dont think your something you are not, when you pass the test and get hired as the po po then and only then can you claim that title.
I have read numerous comments on this blog and never commented but I have to this time. Whoever commented that the jail guards should be privatized is a MORON. I have never been a jail guard but I know that their job must be extremely tough. Just think about some of jerks that you have had to deal with for a couple of hours. Now multiple that by 100 for 8 hours a day. I have worked with numerous former sheriffs who are some of the best coppers/people that I have met on the job over that last 15 years. Please stick your head back in your ass and go back to driving around in circles in 019 on days or go back to your desk. To all my other brothers and sisters, please be safe.
Even if the jail was privatized the employees still need to be paid at taxpayer expense
If the employer pays peanuts, he gets monkeys
Working at that hell hole sucks excpet foe the gangbangers who got through the background checks under theradar.
For those legit officers, they are underpaid and are welcome to concealed carry as far as Im concerned.
Ive been recognised on more than one occasion as being the po po, the last time by a former gang banger bartender working in a classy bar in 018 near the east bank club
That in my opinion is the reason that we carry O/D and so should they
Anyone see the web site from some jag*&^ group. It's old from Jan/Feb. If not here it is...

I am all for privatization of the county. Have you ever pulled a JG over??? They actually tell you that they are the police, than they need to be reminded that they babysitters opps I mean jail guards. I will say one thing I give a JG more credit than a cop from 016 at least the JG has seen a criminal while he is at work. Hahahaha
Can't we all get along?
