Whoops! It's OooPS!

We have long been of the opinion that the FBI is merely the second most incompetent investigatory agency on the planet. Number one all time champion in our book is the venerable Office of Professional Standards.

How about your beefs with OPS? Aside from the fact that they'll take ANY complaint, ANY place, ANY where, ANY allegation, with or without sworn affidavits, what stories can anyone tell about OPS, humorous or otherwise?

10 years ago I got an excessive force beef. I was with the ops idiot and was asked if I struck the complainant. I replied yes numerous times. Idiot asked me how many. I replied 20 or 30 maybe. The ops idiot asks why on earth would you strike an arrestee that many times. I replied, because the arrestee refused to be placed into custody in a peaceable and custodial manner. And the law states I can hit untill I gain control while an arrestee actively resists. I then asked idiot why I was there. Outcome...EXONERATED! KMA OPS!

Got a beef one time for parking in a handicapped parking spot at a bank. Concerned citizen thought it was rude that I would do such a thing. What the OoPS Inv. didn't know was that it was 2300hrs on a sunday and my partner and I were waiting for the bambulance to show up for an attempt suicide victim. The soon to be dead guy was lying on the ground in front of our car. The beef came back the usual not sustained.

How about that one Tough Guy 8:26?

Oh, this should prove to be real good. ( rolls eyes )

Having been around for a while I can tell you that many of you guys should be happy that OPS do the kind of investigations that they do. Every one of you have gotten a Not Sustained or Unfounded when you know damn well that the allegation was true!

For every one beef that is made up, retalitory bullshit, there are 50 ( at least )that are legit that get not sustained.

But all those "real police" ( again rolling the eyes ) will say it's just part of the job.

Slapping someone who is handcuffed. Writing an "air mail" parking ticket to a guy that cuts you off on your way to work. Putting a rock on a guy for talking back. Pealing half the dope boys cash. Stealing more shit than the burglars who hit the job that you were assigned. Coming to work drunk, then writing someone a DUI. All shit I've personally witnessed, and a whole lot more!

Yeah, OPS and IAD are the bad guys... ( more eye rolling )

OPS only investigates excessive force beefs. They would not have investigated parking in a handicapped spot, not invetorying property, or even coming to work drunk. That's all IAD. And most of the IAD cases are shipped to the district for the supervisors to handle.

Its a shame that OPS does there investigation like the 003rd Dist write reports because if these guys at OPS did a real investigation and the complainant refrained from lying and only telling the truth the city would save 40 million dollars a year off suspension time.

My partner and I respond to a sex offense other call of a man jerking off in a car (anonyomous of course). We find the guy, run his name, car plate, etc. and do a contact card. He beefs because he thinks what we did was unlawful. Our Sgt handles the CR and asks us why we were "harrassing the guy".

We were eventually exonerated by OPS.

(I know this is a OPS bashing thread, but sometimes the enemy is within also.)

There was a ofc in 004th dist who was 99 and was given a two car crash report and when he showed up the cars were undriveable and he made them walk almost a mile to the station. Ofc then came up on the air that there was nobody there and no accident. The accident victims bitched in the station (the station smoothed it out) and a couple of days later a CR # came down. This slick Ofc stated that they left what was he suppose to do. OPS replied here is the tow report and you ordered the tow. NOW TAKE 5 DAYS.

The stuff they figure is either going to be not sustained or less than a 5 day suspension goes to the District. The juicy stuff goes to IAD.

My old partner is a sgt down there in General and he said that they average between 15-30 CR's EACH, depending on work ethic. That is an insane amount, even if it is your only job! One big sustained case can take months to straighten out.

He told me lots of cases coming in against supervisors for harassment from po's with under 5 years on who get mad that the sergeant reprimands them for doing stupid shit. How can they even take those kind of complaints? I guess if recruits in the academy are getting numbers on the instructors for cursing and other ridiculous stuff.

This job sucks more each day.

I'd like to add to the above post that he stated that many of those CR's are from young females who apparently don't like to be ordered around.

Hey, 11/03/2005 08:08:37 PM,

You had to hit someone 20-30 times to get them under control?!?!?

Damn boy! Hit the gym or start taking some Weider supplements or something!

You work in 025, don't you?

Sorry if the truth hurts, but you know damn well that there are cowboys on every watch in every district doing exactly that kind of shit. And getting away with it. Breaking the law to uphold the law is kinda pointless. Unless you are just out for yourself, like most of us.

You Idiots ........ if you couldn't tell that the 8:08 was pulling your collective legs then you've lost all sense of perspective. No way would an OPS investigator or anyone up the chain be able to justify hitting somebody 20 or 30 times. Where is your sense of disbelief. Although I have to admit I like the "reasoning" . . . very astute. But you got duped ! Big Time!

With the sworn affadavid (spl) in place, c.r.'s are down big time. Why not save some money and eliminate a proportionate number of oops personal ? There's an oops investigator that has a brother that's an atterdney. Guess who he likes to sue? Conflict of interest possibly? I had a brutality beef years ago with this investigator ( instagator ) changing the story 3 times. And how many times have the pulled the tight end/ wide receiver play? Go in as a witness/ come out accused. and how about our representation, Joe Roddy. This dude hires newbies just out of law school, paying them shit. Their clueless. I highly recommend if you gotta go for an interview you call flop and request Paul Geiger ( if the flop still retains him). Paul knows what the game is.

Both comments are bald-faced LIES.
While certain personnel practices and policies of the CPD are corrupt and dysfunctional, your comments are balderdash. Some of the conduct alleged are felonies. You should report such conduct to prosecutors, naming names, witness(es) and specifics.. You can't. Why? Because they are mean-spirited LIES. You are aware of the fact that this site is public. How dare you ANONYMOUSLY cast such spurious and inflammatory charges against police officers!

I suspect that you are a police hating "citizen" with an ax to grind. Your perverse agenda is transparent, you vicious LIAR(S)!

Gieger has a real talent for twisting the truth and really believes he's above the lie. IMHO if he wasn't related to a Judge he'd be in jail so if you want that kind of representation then go for it. BTW he was a Roddy recruit.

How about investigate all the OPS investigators and find out how many of them have a direct link to a lawyer. You know just in case that big beef comes down that has $$$$ written all over it. This city is so corrupt it would take at least 25 years to clean it up.

hey ofc eye roller,

You talk a lot of smack. Talk about "not doing your job". I guess we have you to blame for officers who get away with more serious stuff every day. Like for instance, po's lighting other po's lockers on fire. Or, how bout po's who get fired for propositioning minors while on duty, only to get their jobs back months later.

Shame on you.

HA HA HA HA! Hey 30 year vet, this 20 year vet agrees with that guy. I'm sick of seeing these young coppers do what ever the hell they want and act as if there are no rules or laws that apply to them. A little professionalism goes a long way.

And please, imagine if you actually reported 1/100th of what you've seen wrong in your career. You'd have been taken out by friendly fire a long time ago and you know it.

This job perpetuates and even encourages shady and sometimes criminal behavior.

I wish supervisors would actually do their jobs out there and curtail some of the stupid shit I see everyday. But like 99% of the Department, they are content to look the other way until someone really messes up bad, and gets caught. Then they stand on the side and point fingers, shake their heads and talk shit like the rest of you.

If you are worried about the public finding out about our trade secrets, then do something about it and stop the shitheads that are making all of us look bad by commiting these acts. It's just easier to look the other way and say "I don't recall" when questioned about it later, right?

Did any of you rocket scientists ever think that if OPS really knew how to do an investigation you probably wouldn't have a job and would be fighting a case of your own. This job is so easy and can be a lot of fun, but some people just have to complain every chance they get. Grow up or go get a real job.
