- The decline of the "dead tree" media continues - New York Times earnings fell 41% compared to a year ago. Soon, the SCC control of the media will be complete! ::evil laughter:: Then, we will see what we can do about getting all those lawyers up against the wall. (hat tip to Ace of Spades)
- Did the WMD get shipped over the border to Syria? The New York Sun says maybe. We've seen reports like these in a number of places around the blogosphere for over two years and it never gets play anywhere. It's something that ought to be covered a little more regularly by the dead tree media - even the Duefler Report (cited by dems as PROOF that Bush lied about WMD's!) states that "The CIA's chief weapons inspector said he cannot rule out the possibility that Iraqi weapons of mass destruction were secretly shipped to Syria before the March 2003 invasion, citing "sufficiently credible" evidence that WMDs may have been moved there." [emphasis added]. We'll find out soon enough. (hat tip to Ace of Spades)
- ANOTHER prediction of ours is coming true! China is moving to "strike hard against rising unrest." We predicted that the Chinese would be slaughtering thousands of their own citizens to keep freedom in check. We hate to be right about this one, but 2006 might be a bloodbath in China. We're batting 1.000 right now in the forecasting category. (hat tip to Ace of Spades; hell, it's an Ace of Spades kind of night!)

Off the thread of politics but kind of related since it is in the news...the city is going to look at every case involving the crime lab pre 1995.
Are we going to pay every scumbag 9 mil a piece??? What makes them worth that? At their minimum wage job they would have gotten what a couple hundred K....of course you throw in their fraudulent welfare and SSI coupled with their crack sales and maybe they could earn a mil.
I am sorry but I am tired of these politicians just giving away millions and millions of dollars like it is pocket change. Then they cry poor when we ask for a 2% raise. Blago is throwing a million to the Pilgrim Baptist Church but there is no cash for the Chicago Public Schools that is f*cked up.
I think a politician should have some knowledge of economics before they are allowed to run for office. I think that any shortfall should come out of the politician's pockets since it occurred on their watch. Take back all the perks of car allowance, office allowance, and war chests and maybe you will see some politicians not so eager to give away the golden goose.

As other posters have stated, look to the police before you back the bas guy. This mope is accussed of MULTI CSA's of elderly woman and this affects only one case.

Any copper with scenes involving more than one offender has encountered "accountability" in prosecution.
The victim / witness identification of an offender as well as offenders admission to the ASA should supercede any out payments by CPD.

They do a GREAT job considering the limitations they are faced with. The city is always fast coming up with knee jerk forms and ideas to have "involved parties" sign. I.E:
Line-up disclaimers, witness, I can leave if not under arrest form,the miranda, there are cameras, recorders, etc....Why not add a line to the ASA oral statement and edit into the videos that the offender agrees to relinquish the monetary award in the case of a false confession to the victims or the victims family. The money should not come solely from City of Chicago / CPD what about the Cook Co, State Atty, the Court, and all lying parties if that would be the case.
This just in: The Mayor, tired of cases where the city has to repeatedly pay out millions to people wrongly arrested and convicted, has decided to disarm the police force and reform them as unarmed watchmen. In order to establish this new order, they will be renamed "doorshakers." An even more elite unit will be established and assigned to work out of the 23rd District; this group will be named "rumpshakers."

I totally agree, the cook county states attorney's office should be paying the fee for wrongful convictions, police arrest's are based on probable cause, the asa's office is the one that proves the case beyond a reasonable doubt in court witch in turn sends them to prison. At 5 am, NYC time, there was a "friendy fire" shooting in the parking lot of a White Castle in the Bronx (46th Pct.). An off-duty rookie MOS, Eric Hernandez, was holding a savage at gunpoint when a 46 RMP responded to a call from White Castle employees. Hernandez' action prompted a highly respected on-duty officer to react and fire, striking Hernandez who is reportedly in "very grave" condition. Say a prayer for both officers.
