Even Criminals Hibernate

Glad to see someone finally told the press that when there are more people on the streets, there is greater opportunity for misbehavior and malfeasance to take place.

Next up for the media - most burglaries occur when people leave their houses and go to work. And Tuesday - more cars on the roads lead to more traffic jams and fender benders.

Masters of the Obvious.

HATE to say this, but--- who cares?? Its a freedome to make any game someone wants. Not to get my a soapbox here, but in a free society such as ours plenty of people are going to try to make their almighty dollar how they see fit-- and others will financially support them if its going to profit for them. But alas-- its going to happen with or without support. Petitioning is only going to bring MORE publicity to the fact that this is a game that kills cops. To play devils advocate-- its allows you to be a cop as well and kill dealers. I knows its a "cop" out-- but let it be-- dont give it more publicity than it already has. Stop paying attention to it and it will die.

Remember how much publicity
"Ice-T" got for the rap song
"Cop Killer"

May be better to contact the pension funds and have them pull any investments from the company that produces this and any merchant that carries it.

Then lobby, or threaten to lobby to have strict controls on any violent video game, and not mention this particular game by name.

It was good to hear that anti-2nd Amendment Radio Shack was closing 4-600 stores. I don't shop there, if they do carry this sort of game, maybe we can help them close some more stores.

"Hate to say this..."
I agree people have freedom to manufacture and sell here in the U.S. but it is appalling to show an example to children and teens that disrespecting the law enforcement and assassinating police is entertainment.
I want to drag out my soap box now. #1 It's not right to teach our youth to kill "anyone" for entertainment.
#2 Children are not ruling the earth, and adults need to learn to take control of thier lives and the offspring they bring here. It's the adults responsiblity to raise the children to respect themselves and others. To know the difference between right and wrong.
And to censor what is going in thier lives til they are adults.
Now if you see an adult at your local store buying this sleezy video game
KICK THEIR ASS!!

The weather post-I just heard from HQ that theres going to be a press release Monday about how articulate and professional they were in assimilating this information concerning crime and weather. They acquired it by having a brainstorming session with the TRU unit followed by a scan-tron test of all supervisors of merit who were told when in doubt pick "c".

HEY! In a FREE Society we also have the right to protest such things. Furthermore I have the responsibility to make sure that my children grow up to be law abiding responsible adults. You may not see the harm in a video game because you are an adult but once you have kids you see how easily children are influenced. I'm not saying this or any other game will turn all kids into killers but it does desensitize them to violence.

This is another reason for crime:

37 million Americans live in poverty. That is 12.7 per cent of the population - the highest percentage in the developed world. They are found from the hills of Kentucky to Chicago's streets, from the Deep South of Louisiana to the heartland of Oklahoma. Each year since 2001 their number has grown.

Under President George W Bush an extra 5.4 million have slipped below the poverty line.

If there ever was "a friend of the police", it was Bill Severin. He just passed away in San Diego at age 80.

I first met Bill after his brother, (Sgt.) Jim Severin and Tony Rizzato, an academy classmate, were murdered in an ambush from a 6th floor bathroom window at 1150 N. Sedgwick on July 17, 1970. To all of us at Area 6 Homicide, Bill was a prince of a man.

Do us old-timers a favor, you young guys. Whenever Johnny Veal and George Clifford Knights come up for parole, do all you can to keep these rotten muthafuckers in Stateville until they come out in pine boxes.

My condolences to the Severin family.

May God bless the souls of Tony Rizzato and the Severin brothers, Jim and Bill.

Video games are a lost cause. Grand Theft Auto is on version 5 or 6, and one of the things thats always been enticing about that game is the ability to get in massive and escalating police chases where the police are eventually roadblocking you with armored vehicles.

Fuhgeddaboutit brothers, its tilting at windmills. Protests will only lead to higher sales. If you don't like the game than don't let your kids get it, and tell your friends and families why you think their kids shouldn't get it either. But you go to the media and you are just fueling the sales on this one.

The police say "this is immoral" and the public hears "this is really, really fun".

That is all.

Doesn't anyone see the irony of Northside remembering a lost comrade who was gunned down by a sniper and some piece of shit coming on here defending the right to make "games" about such acts. Maybe someone will make your silly ass the victim of a "game" one day. Its gotta be a defense that you were over stimulated by a violent cop killing video game.

2/19/2006 10:42:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

A defense is whatever a defense attorney wants to throw at a judge or jury. It doesn't mean its going to work with them any better than any excuse an offender gives you on the street.

But have at it hoss. Your blood pressure will go up by 20, the vast majority of Americans who care NOTHING for police will be laughing at you, sales of any specific game named by the police in the press will skyrocket, and the end result is what?

Maybe a voluntary rating system. Open your eyes. The public does not care and you cannot make them.

Ironic or not, police are law enforcers not lawmakers. And even if lawmakers wanted to ban specific content, the courts are still there to tell them they can't.

Now it might be useful to name the companies who make and distribute the game. It might be useful to publicize the names and addresses of the software developers who write and produce something you find objectionable.

But if this raises your blood pressure, take a deep breath and an aspirin. Anything we do to publicize a boycott is going to drive sales higher.

And the baseline for poverty has gone up by what? Couple thousand dollars? Any single one of those "poor" people you ae talking about would live like a king in any undeveloped country. And every single one of those "poor" people has a TV, access to public transportation and the opportunity to get a damn job and better their life. I probably paid for their section 8 housing.

To the second poster:
Sure, cops can play it and kill dealers. But we are not going to wantonly kill dealers in real-life.

Look at the assholes that play PlayStation and X-Box. They play it so much, it is a necessity in their latest whip so they can play while driving.

Do not underestimate the ability of the weak-minded to be brainwashed.

Because they are animals that belong in cages and they are all looking for the big payout from the city lawsuit. Seeing that a majority of the race is afraid of work, they always look for the easy way out of responsibility. Y do you think we have to handle all of their animalistic problems? "My 17th baby's daddy is in my house and drunk I want him to leave."
What do we do? Go there ask him to leave and he leaves. These people cannot handle their own problems. If they would take responsibilities for their own actions maybe they wouldn't be hated so much.

Be polite, and it's not a problem. Believe it or not, the worst people are relatives of police officers thinking they are mightier than thou when you pull them over. Northside:

We also must ask what happenended to the memorial plaque to Sgt. Severin and Tony Rizzato. I was in the seventh grade when the savage cowards assanitated both. Was at the Green last week looked all over for the memorial plaque. I was at the dedication. Its the same shit they pulled in the 005th District, that cow White and the other bitches (all bitch vagina supervisors, except for 1st wtch) and the ball-less Area Deputy. We had a window memorial to Bozak and Van Scaik but because they were white P/os the mutt administration removed the plaques, pictures and beer mugs. It is replaced with pictures of the bitch police and community services bull shit. May our male brothers rest in peace, just another sign of the demise of the once great CPD.

FOLLOW-UP....
The plaque for Severin and Rizzato, originally displayed around Clybourn and Division, was relocated to the Training Division many years ago due to vandalism and upkeep concerns.
Two years ago, on the anniversary of their deaths, 018 District held a memorial on their behalf. Over 150 people were in attendance. The plaque was removed from the academy and placed in a glass display case, along with other memorabilia in their honor, in the 018 Community Room. At that time the 018 District community room was renamed, "The Sgt. James Severin and Ptlmn. Anthony Rizzato Community Room." [The display case in 018 is available for viewing by interested parties---see the desk sgt.]
Also, there is another plaque donated by 018 in the Jenner School parking lot, 1119 N. Cleveland (south fence) installed at the 25th anniversary of their death in 1995. This was placed near the site where they were killed.
Sorry, I can't help you with any information on Bozak and VanSchack (sp?)
May they all REST IN PEACE

Well put. Bill Severin, along with his family, worked tireslessly for decades to protect 'victim's' rights. He also received the Bronze Star in WWII. While buried in California, a Chicago area celebration of his life will be held on 2 March 2006. Call 847-459-0678 for details. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation on his behalf to Scripps Cancer Research Center in San Diego.
REST IN PEACE, BILL

7:48 PM:

As 9:18 PM stated, a meeting room in the north wing of the new Near North (018) District, 1160 N. Larrabee St., has been named to memorialize Jim Severin and Tony Rizzato in Cabrini-Green.

There is also a display case in the northeast corner of the lobby area opposite the desk.

Unlike most districts, the boundaries of the current 18th Dist. have remained constant for almost a century. In the past forty years, three other officers made the ultimate sacrifice within the confines of 018:

Det. Clayton Robinson, Area 6 Robbery at Blackhawk & Mohawk Sts., Area 6 Traffic PO Bob Wenzel on a traffic stop at 1801 N. LSD and 1st Dep. Supt. Jim Riordan at Marina City.
None were actually assigned to 018. All five sustained fatal GSW.

If the Bosak-Van Schaik omission is true for whatever reason(s), it is unconscionable. Certainly, Cmdr. Kelly and Dep. Chief Shields will resolve this situation forthwith.

Based on CPD archives and the corresponding displays in the lobby at HQ and Gold Star Memorial Park, an audit should be initiated to ensure that each and every one of our fallen comrades photos are prominently displayed on the walls of the district of occurrence and/or their respective units of assignment. This should apply to all such officers for at least fifty years following the respective dates of their ultimate sacrifices.

Actually, the 10 Sector (Lincoln Park) of 018 (old 35th Dist.) was once part of the old 36th Dist., 1950(?) N. Hudson Ave.
