The Ryan Harris Case

The Sun Times and Channel 7 are reporting that a deal may have been cut with Floyd Durr to avoid the death penalty for the murder of Ryan Harris.

From what we know of the Ryan Harris case, this thing has been a political hot potato from the word go. Two kids were arrested and charged and then released after Floyd Durr was tied to the case by a semen sample. The city ended up paying out millions of dollars to the two kids for false arrest, but nothing was ever said about the investigation or investigators who ran this heater. There is a reason for this and we'll state it here:
  • The Detectives got it right!
The media won't touch it and the Department won't say it aloud but the City screwed up by paying out. The reason this thing is probably never going to trial is that Durr might be guilty of something, but he wasn't the instigator. The ASA's can't afford to put the detectives on the stand because it will embarrass the City and Durr might get off on a technicality.
  • The boys plotted and lured Harris to the scene to steal her bicycle.
  • The boys caved in her head with a brick or stone and played with the unconscious victim in a sexual manner, inflicting provable harm.
  • Durr came on the scene later, molested the unconscious girl and probably caused her death by stuffing her mouth with her own panties.
Talking to a number of people we know, there is a ton of information that no one ever revealed for one reason or another. Taxpayers are left holding the bag and the Department gets an undeserved black eye. Lovely system we have here - pay off some of the guilty parties and possibly make a deal with another to make a political issue go away.

*** And if you haven't signed the petition yet, go now! It takes mere moments and it has the potential of sending a rather large message. ***

Sorry SCC but you got this one wrong!!!! All you have to do is read the transcripts of the detective's testimony during the civil trial to know they fucked up royal - that's why the City settled this for as much as it did. Had this case gone to jury, it would have been a lot more. The lead detective's brother is a chief in the ASA's criminal prosecutions office and the det. is now retired so no department action. Haven't heard if any disciplinary action against second detective but no action doesn't mean that there shouldn't have been. As you know, City will often back officers who step into real shit inorder to protect its own butt!

Having gone over the signatures on the petitions, there are a few things that perhaps SCC could clarify for those yet to sign.

1. Signing a nickname, or a first name only, or anything that does not appear to be a complete and full name, gives no credence to your signature. If you don't wish to leave your full name (and perhaps an identifier like PO CPD), than your "signature" is worth zero, or perhaps less.

2. Seems like quite a few people signed twice. But this is Chicago after all.

The family of Ryan Harris should sue to two boys for wrongful death. It was their actions (robbing her of her bicycle and hitting her with the brick) that set in motion a series of events that ultimately led to her death. The only real victim here is RYAN HARRIS and her family. Maybe if they sue for every penny the boys won it might be some type of justice

The Police always will lose these types of cases because of PUBLIC OPINION and the media bias!

Another example: U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) 6-term Congresswoman.

In summary..she is in D.C. and walks passed a security checkpoint in a Capitol office building, she is wearing neither her I.D or Lapel Pin Identifying her as a member of Congress. A Capitol Police Officer calls out to her 3 times, she ignores him and keeps walking. He runs after her and grabs her arm to probably get her attention, (AS ANY OF US WOULD DO IN A SIMILAR SITUATION), she turns and punches him.(known as acting ghetto)..this is not the type of behavior of someone in her position. But,she is a firebrand who has done stuff like this before and repeatedly gets away with it! (female, black, enough said)

In a nutshell, its all on video tape, and the U.S. Attorney is looking at charges against her.

After nearly a week of "no Comment" etc..She say's in essence that she was stopped because the Officer is racist and she hit him because he touched her inappropriately in a sexual manner!

IF I WERE RACIST THIS WOULD CALL FOR A RESPONSE OF "Nxxxxx PLEASE!"

I am fed up with people of color excusing their bad behavior with smoke screens of racism..it's getting old and worn out!

She is wrong, the Officer is right, the video confirms it! But wait..I'm Black, and a Congresswoman..let's REWRITE history here!

Bull-shit!

But as usual all the Black reverends in Atlanta have come out in support of her, calling her competent, couragous, and committed.

She and her lawyers minimized the incident as something political, not criminal and based it on racial profiling.

Now if "Achmed the terrorist" had been able to get by this same checkpoint and suceeded in blowing himself up and possibly harming a few congress persons such as Rep. Rush (D-IL) or Rep. McKinney (D-GA) there would still be outrage, this time that the officer failed to stop and check the I.D. of Achmed. So you are damned if you do and damned if you don't!

In the end the score will be Police-0
U.S. Rep-1

Moral of the story..DON'T DO SHIT ON THIS JOB, ANYMORE!!!

To Anonymous 4/03/2006 08:00:10 AM who says "Sorry SCC but you go this one wrong!"

If you knew anything at all about civil and criminal trial (which you obviously don't) the standards of proof are quite different. Criminal standard of proof is "beyond a reasonable doubt." Civil trial is "a proponderance of the evidence."

Case in point - OJ. Not Guilty criminally (though we have our doubts about "reasonable" California juries) but still on the hook for $33 million dollars to the Browns and Goldmans.

Don't read the civil trial transcript (if you actualy did, which we doubt). At trial, lawyers ask leading questions and leave out certain facts. Read the autopsy report if you can find it. Floyd Durr didn't hit Ryan Harris with a brick to steal her bicycle (which the boys confessed to doing AND had a record of doing); Floyd Durr didn't penetrate Ryan Harris with a stick (like the boys insisted they did AND left evidence of); Floyd Durr left semen on the panties stuffed in Ryan Harris' mouth AFTER he did his deed that choked her to death.

Read up on Floyd's record - all his rapes were in nearby abandoned buildings or basements, not in open court yards where Ryan Harris was located.

Had this case gone to a REAL jury, the city wouldn't be paying any money to Pincham, the other lawyer or their juvenile delinquent clients.

Thanks SCC for bringing out ALL the truth on the Ryan Harris caper.
Those two young kids confessed to 'their' part. They stated 'facts' ONLY the perpetrator(s) would have known. [ie a certain amount of folds on leaves stuffed up an orafice of Ryan Harris, using a brick or rock to knock her off her bike]
Pincham is an avowed racist, only exceeded by his greed. [$$]
His ONLY argument was that the two kids did not do it because they were too young to ejaculate.
No one said they did.
They were only held accountable for their actions that preceeded the actions of Durr.
Like SCC associated earlier in an above post with the OJ trial.
That's like saying OJ is 100% innocent because the glove *allegedly did not fit.
* this was based upon OJ alone pretending that he could not put his paw in the mitten
LQQK at why the City settled....
"HEATER" case, unqualified Corporation Council Lawyers, racial issue, Mayor seeking re-election, City Council black majority, City deep pockets, media distorted accounts, unpredictable juries, continual playing of the 'race card,' gullible public, greed, past [monetary settlement] performance, lack of understanding and respect for the police, politics, politics, politics, ALL played a part in the City following their policy of...."Just give them a check and it will go away!"
When all else fails...blame the police.

R.Eugene Pincham, Montgomery, and the rest of you greedy race-baiters...get your tailors to make you some 3 piece asbestos suits soon, as you'll need them when you join Johnny Cochran in his final resting place.

IF THE PUBLIC ONLY KNEW!!!!!!

Keep the faith and continue to back up one another.

P.S. On an unrelated note. Northside, you were just a kid when you got on 'the job.' I bet some of the youngins' are trying to figure out why there was no checkerboard on your cover. I'll bet they would never believe that when YOU were in Fill-Mo, RD #'s were in single letters, 'lower-case' followed by Roman Numerals! [Great photo J.N!]

The unfortunate part of this scenario is that the extremely troubled children that killed another innocent child will never find comfort.

It was all about the age of the offenders. By all standards (not just most); by all standards of psychology, the offenders were not aware of the wrong. They were not aware of the destruction; of the taking of life. They had no respect for that girl: For Ryan Harris. They knew violence.

And you can tell me that it was because they were from where they were from. But then I can show you that place or race or economics have little to do with acting on violent tendency.

Columbine for example. Were both pairs of killers (Harris and Columbine) mentally ill, emotionally removed? Probably!

I see the names of current POs and Sgts (no reason to repeat their names). THANK YOU!

I also see the names of several retirees who were in exempt positions in the CPD and the OEMC. THANK YOU!

This whole issue is such a no-brainer for the police family, that the only possible excuses for silence are fear or ignorance.

And for EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO I KNOW READS THIS AND SOMETIMES CONTRIBUTES, PLEASE PUT YOUR NAME DOWN WITH MINE ON THE PETITION.

Gotta wonder if its a red herring by Daley. No matter. His silence so far says all we need to hear. He could condemn it a thousand times and it would mean nothing.

Emory Douglas, artist for The Black Panther, talks about the origin of the pig as a symbol:

"Anyway, one day Huey got an idea about the police. We had started calling the police swine because of the nature of their character--they had the most beastly character, dirty and filthy and abusing people and what have you. So Huey gets a picture of a pig and says he wants to put that in the paper--just on the front page--and put the badge of this policeman, who was in Oakland and who had been murdering and harassing people in the community."

"But from my learning in art school I saw a way of carrying things a step further, improving on it."

"I said, 'My man, why don't we dress them up, like humans, and stand them up?'"

"And that's what I did. We put the cops on their feet and showed them running--bullets coming at them and them running. I think that captivated the attention...."

To end my discussion; I am not saying any investigator erred n their assigned task. I am saying the investigation involving children involved was lost before it started. The ages of the offenders would preclude any prosecution no matter what brutality they perpetrated.

As police and investigators we have to look at the big picture. We need to involve the right people and we need to ensure we have the "best" case.

It takes time. It takes focus but it avoids difficulty and second guessing. If it was as good a case as you suggest we would not be having this conversation.

Dearest Malcolm,
You may have paid attention in grammar school, and dont use outside sources to check spelling, but I never accused you of that!
Try paying attention to what I wrote.
I am neither Republican, nor Democrat.
No political party will ever define me as a person, that includes "European American", which by the way you use that term, could be a racial slur as bad as the term "N****r". Either way, you certainly dont use the term for any other reason than to get a rise out of your audience, which is the same as omeone calling you a "N****r". The terms themselves are meaningless, it is the way they are used/said that causes the problem!
I never condemned anyone, nor grouped people together like you do. I merely stated an observation after reading your post's.
How culd you possibly know what my view is? I never told you.
If you are assumimg you know, and grouping me into a sect, then that is purely speculation, and lack of knowledge on your part.
You certainly have a right to your views, but after reading your post's, it seems that you have an "agenda" more than any valid opinion that is backed up by any real facts. This of course, is just my lonely opinion and is certainly open to critisism by you or anyone else, just dont put words in my mouth.
