Someone is saying in various comments sections that if you fall into this "20 CR/12 TRR" demographic, you won't be permitted a promotion.
We don't even have to consult with our lawyers to realize this would be a slamdunk case for the FOP to win in court. We don't recall this restriction being listed on the sheet we got for signing up for the last Sergeant's exam. For the City to even contemplate changing the rules after the fact, especially in this drastic a fashion, just cries out for a lawsuit.

This is what they are saying through out the detective division. At least in Area 2. They mean business. They don't want anyone carried over from patrol that were on shennanigans. Sad, but true. Chicago cops caught in sting

Two Chicago police officers were arrested this morning and charged with conspiring to steal cash from a storage locker they thought was being used by a drug dealer, federal authorities said.
The cash actually was placed by FBI agents and investigators with the Chicago Police Department Internal Affairs Division.
The officers, Richard E. Doroniuk, 30, and Mahmoud Shamah, 27, were to appear for a court hearing this afternoon at the Dirksen U.S. Courthouse.
The officers allegedly used information given to them by a third man to obtain two search warrants for a pair of storage facilities on Grand Avenue over the summer, prosecutors said. They allegedly failed to report any seizure from the execution of the first warrant executed in June, prosecutors said, and only a portion of what they took in a second incident in August.
In total, the men are accused of conspiring to steal more than $31,000.
Prosecutors said both officers were assigned to a 22nd District tactical team. Doroniuk has been a Chicago police officer since January 2000, and Shamah since August 2001, prosecutors said.
"This joint investigation by the Internal Affairs Division and the FBI should send a clear message to the public and to the Department's 13,600 honorable men and women that officers who violate the public trust will be held accountable," Superintendent Philip Cline said in a prepared statement.

More rumors eh? All you working coppers out there worried about the 20 CRs rule, OPS, IAD, TRRs, recent SOS scandal, exam results, etc, are going to give yourselves ulcers and other medical problems! Come on-the job is fun! Do you really care whether or not you get promoted? If you enjoy creating hate and discontent amongst drug dealers, thugs and gang bangers, then hell, that is promotion in and of itself! Your peers know what you've done and where you've been and that is all that should matter.
If you honestly love being a police officer, then the possibility of never leaving Patrol Division should not even faze you.
Do I recommend taking promotional exams? Yes. Should you get all furious when you are passed up? No. Hell no! The key is to never give up and stay positive. Keep doing what you love and don't worry about whether or not the bosses will notice. Do the job because you love enforcing the law.
Your peers are all that matter. If you are labeled as a dog-ass or medical abuser, then something should make you feel inadequate at being a police officer. You are failing all of us. Your peers know the truth of your actions. They will never forget the cowardice or heroism displayed.
Bottom line, if you are afraid to physically rough up a violent offender because of CR allegations and TRR nonsense, then you should work in a white collar field.

I proudly work the 3rd Watch in 009. There isn't a copper on that Watch I wouldn't back-up or die for if need be. I believe they are professional and express the utmost espirit de corps. I have chosen to love this career and all that it has to offer. My peers are the reason why I police the way I do. Sure, sometimes my reputation precedes me, but honestly, there isn't a beat officer or gang officer in 009 who won't agree that on a 10-1 they are relieved when I arrive.
I will go toe-to-toe with the baddest offender(s) out there to protect my fellow officers. I believe in preserving the ideals of the Thin Blue Line. I love this profession and what it entails. I will take my assignment and ride with whoever I am partnered up with for the night without bickering. I am genuine in heart and word and I will ensure we both go home safely. I am your brother out there. We will survive any and all obstacles. I truly am honored to be serving this City and to have served Our magnificent Country. I work in the 009th District-Deering and am damn proud of it! It is my dysfunctional family. Operative word being "family." Yes, I believe these men and women are my extended family.
To the working officers and dog-asses out there who take offense and may or may not become my boss someday-Lead, follow or get the hell out of my way!

Yes many of the mopes we deal with on a daily basis don’t have anything, but they have SSI. Our money paid to them to milk the system. Time to get it back. There is no reason why we cant put a lean on any property, savings or income they have. Sending mope to jail isn’t enough. I was out for three months last years because I messed up my knee and wrist. Yes the department paid my medical, I was IOD and continued to get a check, but I couldn’t enjoy my vacation, couldn’t fix some of the house that needed fixing, could,’t mow my lawn and could hardly wack off because of my injury. So why shouldn’t we be able to file a suit and collect like they would and do.
If they file a racist beef just to try to get even for getting busted and held accountable for there own actions, time to file a defamation of character suit. Lets see how well out FOP legal benefits work or hire somebody.

well lets say you try and get promoted by management and you fill out that worthless resume the commanders tell you too fill out guess what the deputy chief is goin to DO shit can yours out of the 2 picks a district commander hands in because of the cr numbers. lets not forget their is not set criteria for picking management so you would never know if you were not picked due to the cr number. Remeber you need to think out of the box on all these promtion matters.
oh I forgot your alderman will ask you how your record is too if you are deemed a risk it is not likely the alderman is going to make that call. Don't ask me how I know because if you have to ask you are to naive to understand.

SCC, if you were smart and one of your constituents had any proof, any small proof that might survive a motion, there might be something that could be done in terms of injunctive or declaratory relief. I don't have the text of your contract in front of me but it is unlikely that you would be barred from this sort of relief-even if you had to use ADR prior to any conventional court procedure.

Hey Non-dreamer! No boss will ever break the spirit of this guy! Very different. Seriously.
My morale is great. I love the job. I don't cry and whine like most on here. I'm an adult with 4 kids. Tuitions are hard but I do it. It's worth it to keep them out of public schools wich are little more than zoos. I work a beat car in a busy Dst. I dont have any clout and dont'expect to ever have any. So what! I joined to be a policeman. Not a supervisor. Some I work for are fools and some are good. Cline's better than the last two Sups. My kids whine less than most on here, Grow up, it's a job. It pays well, it's interesting, and most on it are really fine people. Nuff said.

Glad to here your happy with less and have little or no need to compete and advance yourself for your own self esteem, or for the economic improvement of your life and four children. For the rest of us we too enjoy our job and feel we'll be more satisfied with a much deserved promotion based on our rank order. We're pissed. Daley is responsible. Hope he chokes on his corned beef and cabbage. Oh, and I'm a boss off the list whose promotion to both dick and sgt. was deferred due to the merit system. I'm moderately happy about my station in life but your Pollyanna attitude makes me think you're in therapy and on psych drugs. This job does suck.
