Welcome to France-istan

Thank goodness the French are so very tolerant, unlike the United States. From Forbes Magazine (thanks to Captain's Quarters for the story):
  • On a routine call, three unwitting police officers fell into a trap. A car darted out to block their path, and dozens of hooded youths surged out of the darkness to attack them with stones, bats and tear gas before fleeing. One officer was hospitalized, and no arrests made.
  • National police reported 2,458 cases of violence against officers in the first six months of the year, on pace to top the 4,246 cases recorded for all of 2005 and the 3,842 in 2004. Firefighters and rescue workers have also been targeted - and some now receive police escorts in such areas.
Along with an average of 112 cars burned every night in the suburbs of France, it's looking more and more like Europe has sown the seeds of it's own destruction. Don't believe us? Look at this post from The Other Side of Kim:
  • Belgium introduced voting rights for non-Belgian residents in order to counter the "islamophobic" and Flemish secessionist Vlaams Belang (VB). As a result multitudes of Muslim candidates were elected in major cities in last Sunday's local elections. In Antwerp the immigrants are now demanding an alderman's post in the city government, which consists of the mayor and ten aldermen. In Brussels the Parti Socialiste (PS) is embarrassed at the election of Murat Denizli as a Socialist councilor. Denizli is a hardright Turkish extremist belonging to the Grey Wolves.

Let's see if I got this right: the Belgies didn't want the eeeevil rightwing political parties to gain any power, so they opened up the voting to people who would oppose them - only to find out that the people thus elected are if anything far worse than the eeeevil rightwingers.

France. Belgium. The Netherlands. Spain. If you really wanted to tour Europe, you missed your chance about a decade ago.

Let's all celebrate diversity, like they do up in Lake Forest; they celebrate the poop out of it!

Ever see anyone up there did not come off of an LLBean Cover?

It is easy to celebrate diversity; it is another matter entirely to live diversity.

Anyone even a little interested in learning about how "Radical Islam" is taking over Europe (and i'm sure won't stop there), must read -America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It -by Mark Steyn.

The book will really enlighten your views on this topic, in a well structured manner.

On a side note- be careful out there, I'm really hoping these ambushes don't become a trend.-021

There's more:

Yesterday the Brussels newspaper Le Soir ran a front page article about the problems in the important Brussels borough of Schaarbeek. The paper says it had been widely known for three months that a member of the Turkish Grey Wolves was a Socialist candidate there. (It should be noted, however, that Le Soir, the largest paper in Brussels, failed to disclose this to its readers until yesterday, well after the elections.) The election of Murat Denizli, Le Soir says, has led to “open warfare and an identity crisis” within the PS because the Grey Wolves are know to be “ultra-nationalist, racist, anti-European.”

I am 2nd generation American PO of Belgian descent. My family is from Antwerp. It is a beautiful city and I would reccomend it as a vacation destination to all. We are known for our wonderful beer.

Belgian politics are very complex, due to the political division of the country along linguistic lines, etc.

The facts are:
1. The "Vlaams Blok" is a rightist party run on an anti-immigrant platform, that has a growing popularity, but no majority. Neither other party will go into a coalition government with them, so they continue to be sidelined into the opposition.
2. Non-Belgian legal residents can vote in local elections since quite some time. That rule was rammed through by the Walloon socialists in one of the previous federal governments, since they get the most votes from immigrants.
3. There are no Islamic parties though. All elected officials run on existing parties. And I am sure that has resulted in Maroccans or Turks elected in the past and present. And since alliances sometimes have to be made by strange bedfellows to keep rule 1 above in place, I am also sure that Islamic alderman have been proposed in some communities.
4. I am not aware of an Islamic alderman request in Antwerp. In fact, the mayor is trying to limit the number of alderman to seven now, from the ten before.

SCC, please get your facts straight and dont paint all Belgians w/ the same brush. My parents never painted all Americans as such. All Belgians do not support this BS Just as all Americans do not support open borders and benifits for illigal immigrants.
