OK, we know you can't believe half the crap that gets posted in our comments sections. You'd be hard pressed to believe even a third of it some days. Can someone somewhere verify that this is an actual policy change about to be implemented?
Because we know that Tact and Gang teams in certain Areas are going to be gutted by 20% or more of their manpower should this be true. And that includes a bunch of Sergeants in some of the "working" districts, not to mention specialized units.

I just read an article about the police departments in Nassau County New York. Their retirees are getting and have bee getting free health insurance for life! This was negotiated by their unions. Time to dump FOP- F#$K Our Police and get one of their unions.

I would get sometimes 5-10 CR#'s in a month or two and go 3 months w/o one. I have had over 50 CR#'s and not one has been sustained. I have made over one thousand arrests in my 15 yr plus career (10 yrs in gangs). This makes no sense, but then again this Dept. has never made sense. Maybe this is a rumor, but if it ain't who the hell are they gonna get to work Tact/Gangs ??????
How about havin SUSTAINED CR's? If some shitball wants to fabricate a beef cuz you locked him/relative up, Y should this eliminate the workin copper. Werkin coppers get CR's, that's a fact of life. If a copper has 20 SUSTAINED beefs within a year as you are saying, he or she is doing soomething wrong. Very wrong. They definitely shouldn't be the police. They are giving everyone a bad name.

If a copper is keep on getting CR's every now and then, then he has a problem in handling or interacting with people. or maybe he has that "I FEEL THE POWER WITH IN ME" and he has that abusive trait. You make us look bad dude. And it doesn't really neccesary mean if you have more CR you work harder. It means you have to evaluate yourself.

The rumor is true. Three dumped off the tact team in 006 on Tuesday for having 20 CR's (just complaints) over past five years. Wait till word gets out on the street. You don't think the "citizens" will use this to get gang/tact off their backs.
What I cant get dumped from tact I just bought a bunch of calvin klein jeans when will I get to wear them, not on the watch besides can i still arrest people on the watch or do I just 19p everything and do case reports

Wake up people! The department is no longer backing you up. My recommendation is to used the department and get a higher education and have them paid for it. Anyone can go to tact/gang, but really how many of the tact/gang personnel have an actual skill? A unique skill that can help you find employment elsewhere. In my five years in the department I achieved an second Bachelor's, Master and now on the way to Law School. Face it if I can do a single parent and going to felony court 3 times a week so can anyone else. Time for a change! Dont rely on this job!

People aren't necessarily being dumped for obtaining more than 20 CR's in a five year period, but they are being called in and counseled (supervisor will complete a Dept. counseling form). They are also being placed in the Behavior Alert System.
It's unfair, because officers who go the extra mile, stopping cars, searching bad guys, their rides, and their residences, receive the majority of beefs. You will likely see many defections from tact/gang teams, and other specialized units that frequently have contact with the more violent citizens out there. And of course, the bosses need those kinds of officers out there to get things done when they are contacted by their bosses in need of "police action." Who will be the real police now??
Can't we bring out another list of really bad bosses again? There are so many to list.

And as for the coppers wearing their guns everywhere, maybe its because they take their oath seriously and you shouldn't make look down upon them for that. I wear my gun everywhere too simply because you never know when you will need it. Shit can break out anywhere and at any time. Being the police you should realize this. I was at an ATM machine in my neighborhood(016) and some dude walked up from behind me and started to ask me for money. He started saying the types of things that I have written on a GOCR before. We didn't get the decision we wanted out of our administrative hearing so we're going to Federal District Court Wednesday morning asking for an injunction against the City to stop them from enforcing the march route they offered. We feel strongly that it does not comply with the City's own ordinance (because it does not afford us ample avenue of expression) and it is impracticable because we are ordered to stop at Federal Plaza two hours before our permit begins, in the middle of an arts & crafts fair. We are committed to achieving a workable compromise, as we did with the City's own representatives before Friday's hearing, until it was nixed by a call “downtown.”

You are wise beyond your years! I'm going on 18 years and I agree with every word you've posted! But especially the part about still being an effective police officer without getting a buttload of CR's and treating everyone like shit. There are some real insecure people that get hired on this job. They have to talk down to others and bitch slap handcuffed people to amuse themselves. Beyond pathetic.
I love seeing guys throw around the "N word" on street stops or arrest scenes and then a few weeks later they're crying about a beef...doesn't take a rocket sceintist to see what the problem is. Disrespect people and you reap what you sow.

Hey guy with 6 years....I agree with some of what you said. You don't have to motherfuck everyone you lock up and you don't and shouldn't treat people like shit. But the rest....get rid of the condescending attitude and maybe some of your post would have sunk into someone’s head. Instead you come off as an arrogant little do nothing prick. Sorry to tell you, 15 arrest a period if low activity. Not sure where you work, but it has to be north. 2nd, if a copper asks you what you have and you're too embarrassed to tell them, stop with the fucking DPW's. If it is a good pinch, you may be ale to teach the other coppers something about how you found it, got the admission, etc. I find that good police work is contagious. You bring in that UUW pinch and people see that, it makes them stop a few extra cars looking for their own. Realize that, whether you agree with it or not. As far as CR#s, when I was new, I was locking up a few people a day and was getting a boatload of CR's. I didn't think I had changed the way I do police work, but I rarely get them now. I assume it comes with experience. The animals we lock up every day can smell it like they can pussy. They know what buttons to push on which people. They may be lazy good for nothing bastards, but they aren't all stupid. They are a different kind of smart. Like I said, I agree with some of what you had to say, but the rest is bullshit. You cannot treat everyone like a shithead. I've locked up several people for 5/9-1 and only a few were stone cold jag offs but the others went along. I've also broken bones and ripped apart tendons fighting with jag offs over dope. Every person is different and it takes a good PERSON to know the difference. If you have good judgment you will make the right decision 99% of the time. And by the way, your arrestees are smiling because you pinched them for DPW and you missed the gun they had hidden in the bushes and the dope in their sock. Sorry to disappoint some of the posters here, but the "20 CR's in 5 years" syndrome is REAL. Officers are being called in, and counseling forms are being drawn up. Officers are being dropped into the personnel concerns program. I hear it's not pretty. As expected, some of our better brethren on the streets are taking the brunt of this. Some are voluntarily asking to be relieved of tactical assignments. Can't much blame them for that! The number one rule of a fight is to protect yourself at all times....
I have to accept some of what the 6 year wonder who previously posted here as truth. You can work tact and, TO SOME DEGREE, avoid some CR's. MFing people all the time, along with use of racially inflammatory name calling will result in beefs. Avoid it.
I know numerous officers who will not work with guys who apparently have racial issues which some continue to "work out" on the local citizenry. I can't say I blame them for refusing to work with those idiots, who make this job much harder for the rest of us.
As far as 6 yr. wonder not packing off duty, refusing to tell his co-workers what he's working on while down in the station on arrests, to each his own. My opinion, the guy's strange with regards to not wanting to discuss with co-workers what current assignment he's working on in the station. As far as not wanting to carry off duty, that's a personal preference. I have rarely left my home without some sort of firearm carried close.
Off-duty, I am far less concerned with protecting the citizens, and totally concerned with protecting ME and MINE. And if the 6 year wonder really feels he makes "shit money," then I would say by all means seek out other employment.
I've been on this job for 20+ years now, and I can honestly say I earn more than 95% of my friends in the "private" sector, so I'm not complaining. Yes, I do work some side jobs occasionally, but my kids go to private schools, and I don't owe anybody a dime to keep them there. My car isn't new, and it isn't an SUV, but it does the job, and it's PAID FOR. I only wish I could appear in court more and get paid for it, but it doesn't look good for a Sgt. to make too many trips to 26th st.
Sometimes I do get those subpoenas, and I appreciate them when they arrive. Every little bit $$ helps! Stay safe, all, and remember, your main duty is to provide for your family.
I don't think I know any P/O's with many SUSTAINED CR's. If you're afraid of getting booted from Tact/Gangs, learn to write a good TO/FROM.
Just a note and a word of wisdom to all in blue about carrying off duty. I didn't carry off-duty and walked into a Dunkin donut shop only to have an armed offender try to hold up the place. Thank the Gaelic Gods everything turned out okay. All my buddies chipped in for a snub revolver for me which I carry everywhere. I would end this by saying take this advice or leave it, but take it. It could save your life.

Hey 10:56, I never got a CR# for any of my DOPW arrests either, as far as other arrests, that's a different story. Any defense attorney on a good arrest will have a sh@thead file one for some trumped up reason just for leverage in his trial/ prelim, so talk to me when you actually have to call an ASA with one of your 15-20 arrests you make.
The six year wonder's post should be read by all of the bosses so that they know that the bullshit they are feeding in the Academy is working!! What a total goof, on every level!!
to 03:31, FYI, some of us "chicks" on the front desk are their on BIDs, surprise, we did our 20+ on the street, have worked tact and units, been FTOs, etc. Furthermore, we don't necessarily care for the clout babies that they put with us, since alot of the time they don't even know what kind of report the customer (aka citizen) needs. Best post on this blog EVER!! Well put. Go to work and do your job the right way. Every copper I know that has loads of CR #'s, are the biggest bunch of jagoffs on the job.. These clowns got beat up and made fun of when the were kids now the have a star and a gun, now they act like a big tough guy. I Have 8 years on the job have work tact/Gang now work in a unit (All on the west and southside) I have 6 CR #'s. The problem with this job is Coppers wont look another copper in the face and tell him that he is acting like a jagoff. I've done it and let me tell you people looked at me crossed eyed after I did it.

i am the 6 year wonder and i didnt want it to get to this and brag about myself but you pieces of sh#$ make stuff personal....where do i begin. first and foremost i have zero not one not two or three zero drinking arrest or pissing arrests. I have numerous dc's under my belt as well as other awards but who gives a sht about that! thats not my point. if you read my original post i said i do not like to talk about my arrests unless it is something comical or unique. at the same time i do not wish to hear your war stories either. or how bad azz of a copper you are. and as for the guy who says that he makes more than 95% of his friends.....wow. who are you hanging out with? i know first hand that i make less than most of my friends. like i said before i am carefree when i have to turn into a lion i will but in the mean time im a teddy bear im not gonna let a bunch of coppers on this blog make me feel bad by any means i do not wish that upon anyone. so im not gonna turn this into a pissing contest but i will say this. i do what works best for me cuz when its all said and done not one motha fuc#$& is gonna pay my bills or put food on my family's table or put a roof under their head and thats all that matters. im gonna do my job to make my money on the 1st and the 16th and i do not need to put people down to make myself feel any better. so for all you coppers who have cr's and are proud of them that just shows your ignorance. and if any of you pieces of sht want to compare numbers id be more than willing to let my numbers do the talking. and by the way i have 000000000000000000000 crs. Working Tac Units just don't seem to be worth it.
Want to make a difference, If you are in a Tac Unit put in for a return to uniform. They are being mis-used anyway. It doesn't seem worth it.
The bottom line is there are ways to avoid C.R.'s even when doing good work. It's the way you conduct yourself and if a potential for a beef arises, you attempt to quell it right then and there. Sometimes they are unavoidable. Yes, if you are really hitting the streets and making arrests, people will beef no matter what; however; if you rightfully conduct yourself within the parameters of the law and know how to cover yourself on paper by rightfully and legally explaining your actions in accordance to BOTH the Law and our department general orders, you'll be fine. Just remember C.Y.A. If someone has serioussly sustained beefs over and over again in a systematic manner, something is wrong. It definately needs to be addressed so that he can save his skin. Complaints will always come but you also have to look at the type of complaint. Is it because of a Brutality beef, money beef, City Sticker beef, inattention to duty etc...??? The magnitude and severity of the SUSTAINED beefs have to also be weighed. There are alot of factors when considering how many C.R.'s the Police get. I just don't like it when I hear P.O.'s bragging out their C.R. numbers. Now that is just outright stupidity.
First of all it's not bragging, it is what it is. You do thiS job like it's supposed to be done and you get CR's. PERIOD.

THEY GET COACHED AND THINK THIS WILL STOP OUR ACTIONS BUT IT DOES NOT. I DO BELIEVE THAT SINCE THE AFFIDAVIT HAS BEEN ENACTED CR'S WILL GO DOWN, BUT IF YOU ARE A WORKER AND LIKE TO LOCK UP BAD GUYS THEN YOU WILL/ARE GOING TO GET CR'S, IT'S JUST THAT SIMPLE. Went to a few PC hearings that all the defense would ask me was when and where I beat his client. By the way, I get CR's. None have been sustained.
This CR debate is really about the departments "HANDLING" of CR complaints. Those cops that have 20 plus CR's have also had those CR's NOT SUSTAINED, EXONERATED OR UNFOUNDED. THAT MEANS NOT GUILTY AT THE VERY LEAST. BUT THOSE COPS ARE BEING JUDGED BY THE DEPARTMENT AS GUILTY. WTF????? Also, why do you think the CR complaints have been adjusted in the last year or so by having the complaintants fill out an affidavit along with their complaints toward police? BECAUSE SOMEONE WITH A LITTLE MORE BRAINS KNOW THAT A LOT OF THE BEEFS WERE BS AND REVENGEFUL ON COPS WHO WERE REALLY DOING THEIR JOB ON THE STREET. BUT WHAT DO I KNOW???? I JUST DO MY JOB. If only more or you would tell your sgt, lt, etc. to call our bosses and make your complaints known , then our mgt can start taking disciplinary actions on these ass*&#@s.

on a dispacther in a case like you mentioned from CW1. That's how she probably got dumped from other zone or CW. We have our share of dumb asses in the room.

I was fooled into believing that working in a fast district would not only benefit you as a P.O. but that it would help you later in your career. Worked my ass off for a long time, took advise from guys with time on the job (oldtimers and some not oldtimers), never spoke bad about other officers nor was I ever jealous either. I watched, learned then tried to become the best cop I could not only for myself but for other cops respect cause no one likes a dog. Now here comes the time when all that work, in the trenches and shit, is coming to slap me in the face cause I have more than 20 CR#'s. I never locked up a person that did'nt need to get locked up and I'll tell you this......if you do work you are gonna get numbers....I accepted this and dealt with it for a long time. Now I have to face the music cause some pieces of shit put #'s on me for doing my job and getting the bad guy. I wanna scream everytime I read someones comments about not ever getting a # and I've worked in the shit for years blah blah blah blah.......you are full of shit! People who work get numbers plain and simple cause thats just how it is! Anyone can put a # on you for ANYTHING! Now add the fact that u are arresting people that really are'nt the greatest citizens in the world and whatta get????????? The only way they know how to hurt you on this job is to either sue you or put a # on you. The hardest things for a working cop to do is stop working and watch other people pass u by shooting up those ranks or units. Like I've said before I've never been jealous but it sure stings and this stuff about the CR crap stings too. There are some idiots out there who are tact/gang and they will always be morons so I would hope that all tact/gang dont get lumped into that catagory. It sucks that it took almost 10years to realize that I shoulda just worked on a beat car in 18 or where ever it was slow. I love being the police but man, times are gonna be really hard and trying on those who like to work cause once again we're getting stuck up the you know again.
