Vote, Damnit

If you don't vote, you really don't have a right to bitch. It's as simple as that. We don't want illegals and foreigners telling us how to run our country because they don't vote and aren't subject to our laws. Why would anyone who doesn't even bother to vote expect to have a voice?

We've been asked to provide a list of SCC endorsements for office by more than a few people via e-mail and the comments sections. We're flattered, but we don't really see that as our purpose here. All we can offer is the following advice:
  • Vote for the person running against the incumbent in all cases. Today's political order is so fossilized, calcified, impervious to change and new blood, that only wholesale change at the State and County levels will provide any sort of message to the knuckleheads running things. This means vote against Blago, against Stroger, against a lot of established Machine candidates - even if the replacement isn't the best by any stretch of the imagination.
  • We've heard of a number of judges that ought to be voted out - Sheehan and Brooks being the two big ones. We've also read of a couple that ought to be retained, but those are few and far between. We plan to vote "NO" on every single judge no matter what. Our choice, our recommendation. Again, anything that challenges the political order can't be bad and judges are where a "NO" vote can have the most impact. A "NO" vote actually forces them to garner something like 3 more additional "YES" votes to offset your voice. If you undervote (decline to make a choice) you actually help judges who shouldn't be retained.
  • Vote. Participate. Get involved.
Nationally, we aren't expecting a bloodbath. Should the dems actually pull off victory in both houses, expect to see republican obstructionism along the lines of what the dems have been doing for the last couple of years - nothing will get done in Washington, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. We plan on staying up kind of late anyway just to see where it's headed.

I will be at my polling place shortly after it opens.

I shall vote no on every judge with the exception of Joe Urso.

I shall vote for Topinka, Peraica and Radagno in order to tell the democratic party that I am tired of corruption, annointment of their children and relatives, and organized crime.

I am preparing for February when I can send a message to "Da Mayor" that I have my fill of meritorious promotions.

VOTE!!!

U.S. Web Archive Is Said to Reveal a Nuclear Primer

By WILLIAM J. BROAD
Published: November 3, 2006
Correction Appended

Last March, the federal government set up a Web site to make public a vast archive of Iraqi documents captured during the war. The Bush administration did so under pressure from Congressional Republicans who had said they hoped to “leverage the Internet” to find new evidence of the prewar dangers posed by Saddam Hussein.

But in recent weeks, the site has posted some documents that weapons experts say are a danger themselves: detailed accounts of Iraq’s secret nuclear research before the 1991 Persian Gulf war. The documents, the experts say, constitute a basic guide to building an atom bomb.

Last night, the government shut down the Web site after The New York Times asked about complaints from weapons experts and arms-control officials. A spokesman for the director of national intelligence said access to the site had been suspended “pending a review to ensure its content is appropriate for public viewing.”

Be a man already! Tell the wife about the skank po and leave Ogden Park alone. Just some friendly advice from another tac guy.

I'm also voting for all Republicans and against all judges except for Urso and Reyna. I've had cases before both of these judges and they're no-nonsense attitude towards these career-criminal thugs is great.

I agree with you 100% SCC. Vote all the incumbents out!!!! I voted for my dog as our next Gov. I know he would do a better job than the 3 stiffs running.

It was disgraceful that all the judge elections were dems unopposed. I left all of them blank. Voted no on every judge and got my wife to do the same. Change is good!!!!!!

I voted for my wife, partner, and myself for the Water Dist. I don't for Dems period!!!!!!!!!

The most important thing was that I voted. I can't stand the excuses people use for not voting especially coppers. I don't want me or my wife to get jury duty. Disgraceful!!!!!!!! Anyone with a Social Security number should be on the jury list. That would make people get out and do their civic duty!!!!

Off topic but needs to be posted:
Did anyone see the comments from Alderman " I was the police 34 years ago" Beavers in the Sun Times this morning, who called all of the officers in roving units "thugs," and then called for a new Superintendent. This guy is out of control, the departments numbers under Cline are the talk of the nation and a model being followed by other departments. He also states that we have more manpower under Cline than the last three Supes, wrong! The most manpower i've ever seen was when Rodriguez was Supe in the early 90's. When are we going to stand up and denounce this police-hater Beavers? FOP, PBPA where are you on this? he should be publicly scrutinized, demand a public apology and his resignation, enough is enough with this guy.

Lets not get CRAZY, there are judges over at 26th st that have always liked the police, always seem to do the right thing. Two right off the top of my head are Joe Urso and Ken Wadas. Whats more I would go through a door with either of them at any time. Anyone disagree, give an example not bullshit.

I exercised my right as an American citizen and had a few observations: 1. Filling out the poster sized ballots made me feel like I needed to ride the short bus to school. 2. Out of the hundred or so signs posted outside my polling place, I counted 6 Perica signs and 1 Todd-ler sign. 3. Bring a small child with you and the municipal employees, oh, I meant "campaign volunteers" won't hassle you with their palm cards.

All in all, it's an election that after I "bridged the broken arrows", I felt an immediate need for a shower.....

Lets watch and see how we did.
Regardless of the outcome........
We still need to remember that "THIN BLUE LINE" and continue to look out for one another.

the bottom line on this election: regardless if the Dems or Repubs control either or both houses of Congress, the divide will be so close that nothing will be accomplished (i.e., deadlock). Even if the Dems manage to get "something" through, if Bush is paying attention he should veto it; meaning, it all turns on the '08 presidential vote: Hillary v whomever the Repubs put up. If Hillary should run and win....may God bless the citizens of the (former) United States of America, may God help us all...
