I am very upset . I heard about this. I watched the 5:00 channel 7 news , I cannot believe that the MEDIA feels that a bank robber is more important than a police officer hurt !! Unbelievable !!! But let it be someone else and its breaking news. I cant help to ask myself "and why am I risking my life everyday ? " GOD BLESS the officer hurt and praying for a quick recovery . Glod bless my brothers and sisters in blue.

I've worked that Clemente H.S. Dismissal detail plenty of times, and was NOT there today. However, to the poster who asked why he didn't return fire, I could say with certainty it was because there are hundreds of students and citizens waiting to board CTA buses there at that time, not to mention the traffic in the area. The officer's on scene showed GREAT RESTRAINT in not returning fire. (We all know they wanted to.)But, they acted like professionals and identified their back-drops, and didn't fire into the crowd preventing further injuries, etc!
Offender I'm certain will be identified and arrested quickly.
Good work to all involved..and a speedy recovery to the wounded officer and prayers to him and his family.

Well, it was up within 60 minutes of the shooting if you check the time stamps. We thought that was pretty good. Then it was the top post for almost 8 hours before we posted the midnight articles for the next day. Blogging isn't like a bulletin board where we can just nail a post to the top spot. And we've been doing this for almost two years now. Sorry you couldn't check earlier when it was posted just as you like it.
As for the media, what did you expect?

Hey SCC, you did the right thing, it was posted almost immediately when the copper was shot, and for our readers the blue tornado will get this guy who shot the police, we are a Band of Brothers and will be the real police, Im sure there is now a zero tolerance on this mopes gang affiliation, if not we should demand Clines dismissal. And as far as the news is concern they just want a story, when I got shot all they wanted to do is interview my family, bunch of assholes-don't trust no one from the news, suggestion don't talk to them or give them any more leads concerning police officers, show them what a blue line really does.
I totally agree with not shooting into a crowd of people. If one of the P.O.'s would have shot blindly in a crowd of people, the baby's momma would have been doing the curly shuffle on the ground holding the "angels" photo (not the IR/CB photo) for the news media. Charged with attempt murder today
To posters who ??? why partner did not return fire after I was shot should come down to Clemente HS at 1445 hours and you will see why. After the shots were fired & I was struck, we both sought cover and my partner covered me until help arrived. When you are lying in a dirty, wet, & cold curb in "the zone" with your elbow shattered it is comforting to see your partner covering your back and not doing something silly like running down Division looking for the offender all by himself. On Monday 11 Dec 2006 we did it right. Thanks to all of you for your thoughful prayers. Thanks to all of you that went out there and put the fear of god into those gangbangers for shooting the police. Thanks to A/5 for the great work. God bless all of you and be safe.
