A Message That Needs Airing

Bill Cosby came to town. And he said a lot of things.
  • in the Sun Times: Entertainer Bill Cosby, who has sparked controversy for biting public remarks about blacks and parenting, delivered a strong charge to parents Wednesday: Step up. "It's not the schools. It's not the streets. It's not even the church," said Cosby, speaking at a conference hosted by Chicago Public Schools. "You've got to build confidence in your child in your home."
  • on the Channel 5 website: "These are people going around stealing Coca Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake. Then we all run out and are outraged, 'The cops shouldn't have shot him.' What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand? I wanted a piece of pound cake just as bad as anybody else, and I looked at it and I had no money. And something called parenting said, 'If you get caught with it you're going to embarrass your mother.' Not: 'You're going to get your butt kicked.' No. 'You're going to embarrass your mother."
  • On the Channel 7 website: During his speech, Cosby challenged adults to take responsibility for the lives of their children. "But, as a parent, you have to understand, I know what I'm doing, I'm in charge," said Cosby. Two years ago Cosby surprised many people by criticizing certain lifestyle choices made by poor African Americans. Since then, he has toured the country speaking about the importance of self-empowerment and responsibility. At the conference, his focus was on education and helping children succeed. He did not mince words. "We can stay in the projects, but they can't," said Cosby. "They mustn't look for a check."
And then we troll through our comments section:
  • Malcolm X's little brother said...

You left out one thing, SCC. Just about all of those politicans [sic-SCC], be they Democrats or Republicans, were European-Americans. Just about none were Asian-Americans, a couple of Hispanic-Americans thrown in the mix, and a few African-Americans.

The blame which you wish to dish out lies at the feet of (as lefty would say) YOUR people. You are part of the problem of which you proclaim. I will not even get into the social-economic factors which are attributable to the rise in crime.

Dr. Cosby preaches self reliance, personal responsibility and taking steps to make your life and the lives of your children better. And Malcolm spouting hate filled platitudes to perpetuate the victimhood of an entire people. Quite a comparison, eh?

A well educated and very prominent Black man made these statements-which make a lot of sense.

I'm sure Mr. Cosby will be mocked and ridiculed again for speaking the truth.

We all know that the majority of those collecting the checks do not want to hear the truth.

I'm just glad that he had the balls to say it again.

God knows if a White guy said something like that to a national forum there would be outrage and riots.

It will never end.

I work for an emergency answering service. We get calls from all over and some of the worst come from parents. Ghetto area or suburb, these parents scare the hell out of me.

Some parents have no clue what their child's last name is let alone their birthday. Others have several children, all with different last names.

It's great to see Crosby addressing this...

Actually SCC, Malcom's statement is truthful. That's not to say that what Dr.Cosby says about parental responsibility isn't truthful as well. Institutionalized and covert racism is ALSO a factor. Having said that, racism is NO excuse for the conduct of some of our black youth. Parents are responsible for the conduct/actions of their children. We can blame racist people for their actions, but we cannot blame them for the lack of mores some of our children exhibit.

Bill Cosby is preaching the message that could bring the black community out of poverty and crime, as it has done to different ethnic groups throughout history (italians, irish, jews, etc).

Too bad anyone who listens to him will be labeled a "sellout" or "uncle tom."

From Todays SlumTimes...

The state is juggling $106 billion in debts and obligations -- and has no way of paying them. A key group of Chicago businesspeople says only tax increases and a radical overhaul of the state pension system can keep the state out of an economic disaster.

If they would stop all the waisted welfare bullshit, we would break even the first year. Trim down all the bullshit political jobs. If my pension gets fucked with, every politician will pay with their ass!

The Black community must stand up for itself. If the majority of the Black community would learn this they wouldn't fall behind. Look at hispanics. They get the message. Work hard and the rewards will come. If I was black I would be outraged that groups that have come to this country long after they did and have passed them economically.

Yes covert racism is part of the problem but certainly not the biggest problem. The black community has played their hand wrong for over 30 years. They never get why they don't get ahead. They have equal employment in government jobs and keep pushing to get more of them. That is not the key to success. Government jobs are hand outs. Gov't jobs r working welfare in alot of cases. They need to build up their private sector. Start their own businesses and prosper. Having your own businees and your own employees give you power. Instead to many black leaders play the racism card instead of the be proud and work harder card.

If the black community wants to pull their poor up they must take a long look in the mirror first. When they clean their own house, the racism that they do face will be extremely more obvious. They must then figure out how to stop the violence. White people have trailor parks everywhere across this country loaded with the biggest piles of uneducated trash on the planet. Yet they seem to avoid the violence. The black community must look as to why their uneducated and poor are so violent and their white counterparts are not.

I'm not looking for trouble here but I must say something about him.
He who has a forked tongue should not speak yes I applaud him for some of the things he says but on the other hand,he just paid off a female a large amount of money after giving her some kind of date rape drug in her drink and several other females have claimed the same.
Also he is a big supporter of al sharpton and gave a 10,000 rolex to al and company during the tawana brawley hoax incident and is not a big fan of law enforcement .

I was reading a news story not too long ago... maybe it was in Michigan? Anyway... A law was being considered that if you are on state aide (welfare, etc.) and are caught committing crime, your aide gets taken away. How wonderful is that! Does anyone realize how much that would save this city alone? Bring it on!

The truth can not be spoken. Many people (democrats) like the blacks right where they are. There is alot of power and alot of votes tied up in making people feel they need you. Do you think the rich of this country want people on welfare and other social programs, so they can bleed out more tax money. This is myth created by liberals who would rather convince people that they are incapable of helping themsleves and victim of some white conspiracy.

Cosby is wise. His words are what EVERY parent needs to hear, not just black parents. I've seen kids of every color in the rainbow on the west side fucking up....getting high, buying drugs, literally selling their ass for a pipe full of shit. Parenting has lost its glamour and importance amount mommies and daddies today.
It' very easy to become a Mom or a Dad....it takes much more effort to be a PARENT, and unfortunately, a whole bunch of folks just aren't committed to the task. Unfortunately, the most visible signs of this are in black a& brown families. At my part timer, I've seen many a parent actively encourage their child to steal what they are not willing to buy them. When it's brought to the parent's attention, they put on quite an undignified show, claiming little Johnny or Suzie wouldn't stoop so low. Lots of parents out there are failing their kids, and they're certainly not all black, or even Hispanic.
On another note, how can a man with a Doctorate and so much "raising children" smarts such as Cos get into so much trouble with women over the years?
Maybe Cos needs to practice what he preaches and be a little more responsible in his personal life as well. And, I believe, one of his daughters was financially cut off by Cos some years ago and had to go out and wait on tables in various NY establishments while she sorted out a drug habit. Nobody's perfect!

Whether or not Cosby supports Rev. Al or anyone else as he so chooses is his own business, and doesn't diminish Cosby in my book. I'm sure lots of people who visit this website listen to Rush Limbaugh, and I'm damn sure they aren't pill popping, lying pieces of crap!

All we need to know about the "little brother" is whose name he chose for his first. MALCOM - as in Malcom X one of the biggest hate filled racist the world has ever seen. Another Muslim who has been glorified in the media. We all will be treated to the many stories of black achievement in the month of February. Hopefully we'll get a story about poor little Mr. Ealy and his five victims.

Hey Lefty you socialist moron!!!! The playing field isn't level for anyone!!!! Your theory is total myth. Unless your rich or connected u will have to work for what you get, regardless of race!!! I forgot idiots like you think the poor and dumb shouldn't have to work. U want to tell us that the gov't will do everything for you. Typical liberal!!! Go vote for Blago, Da Mayor, and the Toddler. They'll make sure the playing field is level. The check is in the mail for all the hard workers thanks to them.
Every single person in this country has a chance to succeed. No other country can boast that. Some will have to work alot harder than others do to several factors. Being born here does not entitle you to anything!!!!!!

In the last 30 years, can you tell me which laws were oppressive to blacks????? Whicj laws are responsible for keeping them down?

None.

The only thing stopping blacks from succeeding is blacks. From their contempt of everyone (including themselves) to their culture of victimization, to the high percentage of criminal acts committed by their people, to the choice not to embrace education. The black population as a whole needs to choose to succeed, because the opportunity is there. They just need to seize it.

No my friend. Censorship is when the GOVERNMENT orders the lawful owner of the Little Rascals not to syndicate the "Little Rascals" because Buckwheat is a Sterotype and portrays black in a bad light.

If Cosby did what you said he did, it's called free enterprise. As the owner of the rights to the "Little Rascals," it is certainly his right in a free society to do what he wishes with HIS property because of his beliefs.

If it's his show, it offends him, and he doesn't show it anymore in syndication that is the American Way in action. He bought it.

Lay off my man Cosby!

The truth is.....
Cosby bought up all the Little Rascal episodes out of respect to Louis Farrahkan. Buckwheat's brother, was a Muslim, .....Khareem O' Wheat. Ooooooootay!?

Going with your insightful logic, why are there continuing lawsuits by condo/townhouse associations against "property owners" when the person flies the American flag, Christmas decorations etc on their "property." Seems it's ok if you fuck with the middle but god forbid you should take a person with means to task.... if you pay a note, in my eyes, you own property and are beyond administrative nonsense, in your world, if Trump decided to "buy" Santa claus, the Easter Bunny and Tooth fairy, it'd be all good.... Commen sense=down the drain.....

My insightful logic is correct.

A Condominium owner belongs to an association. A condominium association has rules and regulations and a democratically elected board. A condominium owner owns the interior of the condominium and the external parts of the condominium belong to the association. A condominium owner pays association fees for the upkeep of the exterior of the building.

Apparently some boards tightly restrict additions to the outside of the units.

You don't see such law suits if you own a home and not a condominium, why is that? The Association is the answer.

Trump cannot buy Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy, as they are not intellectual property; but, if he decides to purchase the rights to the Cosby show and take it out of syndication, that is his right and that is no Liberal B.S., it is capitalism at its finest!

Bill Cosby did not buy the rights to the Little Rascals. That rumor has been going around since 1989.

Snopes.com investigates rumors/claims and determined that it was false.
