It's Never Too Early

To start thinking about Police Memorial Week.

We were directed to this website by a reader. This isn't the Washington DC memorial that attracts so many, but the lesser known The Greater Cleveland Peace Officers' Memorial. Still, just about everyone we've heard who has attended both prefers the Cleveland memorial by a small margin. Think about attending one or both of the memorials

GREAT SCC!!!!
The real point here is to participate in SOMETHING in behalf of our hero's that made the "Ultimate Sacrifice"
i.e. Chicago-St. Jude March, Gold Star Memorial and Park ceremony or visitation, Springfield Memorial, Cook County Memorial, Washington D.C. 'National' Memorial during Police Week, etc.

what the f@#$!!! Is the Springfield Memorial not worth mentioning. I think its a blast but it's like pulling teeth for officers to attend. 26 hour commitment fromt start to finish but nobody can find time to make to go. great get together and meet and greet the night before and great yet emotional memorial the next day at the church and then again downtown. I'm not dissn' Washington or Ohio but come on!!!

In 1999 my former partner and I attended some police training in Cleveland, Ohio on our own time, and at our own expense.

The Cleveland P.D. was the host and the Sargeant-at-arms for the Cleveland Patrolman's association or maybe the F.O.P. (I can't remember now..I'm getting old)gave all the attendee's his card along with directions to their Lodge Hall and instructed us to flag down a passing squad car if we have any problems or even if we need a ride. "Just present my card to the officer..they have instructions to treat our guest like royalty..they'll help with what-ever you need!"

He wasn't joking! It was one of the best times i've ever had. Cleveland P.D. are top-notch! They also know 1st hand of the shit we deal with here. They too have image problems in the media and have been threatened with Federal oversite by a consent decree.

Having been to both, I can say that the Cleveland police run that town and treat visiting P.O.'s great.

They haven't tried to serve me with the papers yet! Besides that little "bitch" (proper breeding term meant) was the "sloppy party bottom" at the pound! I tied a board around my waist so I wouldn't fall in!
