- Nine police officers have been given immunity to testify before a grand jury in the ongoing probe of Chicago police corruption, a defense lawyer said Tuesday.
No word if any of the nine are among the seven currently indicted. But as it was explained to us by someone with a vested interest in the situation, all nine of these cooperating individuals are going to be fired - administratively. The seven indicted officers? Fired. And the as yet unnamed upcoming indictments? Yeah, they'll be fired, too.
Total fallout? Probably 20 minimum.

I am not worried about being off duty and on tape beating up a bunch of citizens. I'm worried I'm going to wind up on the next episode of "Cheaters".
Word has it that the new D/C of 008 was seen on video exiting the Jefferson bar prior to the fight. Not bad, command a unit that has several officers involved in a fight and get promoted. Similar to the SOS situation....if your a member of the boys club your protected....Who will J.B give up? Will the feds take over the SOS case?

While I agree with you for the most part, I think your jaw would hit the floor if you knew the amounts they were "allegedly" taking in. A few thousand was basically beer money to these guys.

CW gets to live outside the city limits! She got promoted for wiring a funny looking device beneath her shirt to record officers saying some stuff. Plus they need more female and black bosses and she fit the criteria.
She goes into lockups and goes out of her way to ask and probe your offender if he was mistreated in any way or was he happy with the way the arresting officers handled the arrest.
Immunity = UTTO!! Heads are going to roll. I'm shocked they offered full immunity to so many coppers. Ususally its the first couple that bite are the lucky ones, the rest that didn't want to cooperate are going to get burned... Can you say to the officers that flipped = "I'm moving out of Chicago fast, far away from the coppers I just ratted out".
Its not a whistle blower situation. To be a whistleblower, you have to bring previously unknown information to someone, and you cannot have been part of the wrongdoing. Rather than whistleblowing, this is either A. Saving their own asses, or B. Ratting. At any rate I hope that anyone who was stealing or whatever the fuck they were doing goes to jail for a long time. BECAUSE... The tapes show very little wrong doing by the off duty coppers. The city is leaning on the State's Attny office for charges. The S.A. is having a difficult time determining that the were criminal actions that occurred (other than pushing and shoving). The city wants the p.o.'s charged so they can parade it in the media. The S.A.'s office doesnt want to charge because they wont win the case. The coppers will spend a fortune in legal bills (out of pocket), beat the case, and the city will just shrug and say "Well we tried".Typical city politics. BET THE FARM ON IT!!!

I was there when they were installed in 019. I talked to the installer, who did not work for the city. They are an in building antenna system for nextel phones and blackberry service.
At first, I was suspicious, but as soon as they were done, my nextel phone was recieving a full signal, even in the basement where you could never get a signal before.

First, If they resign, they resign under investigation which is just as good as being terminated in the Law Enforcement Business. These other departments ask if you have ever resigned whilst under investigation.
Then their testimony at trial becomes public record and admissions of criminal activity become issues in their future Law Enforcement employment.

So what if he was there before it happened, he wasn't there when it did, which would matter, plus how do you know when he found out about it? even if he found out shortly afterwards it would still be too late for them. You need to get over it already, he isn't culpable for it, they are.

The case against the SOS coppers is weak and is probably falling apart quickly. The state is trying to shore it up by offering immunity and leaking this offer to the press. There is no other logical reason for the state to publicly disclose that "guilty" coppers won't be charged.
The state is hoping that police officer witnesses will get scared and/or that charged officers will confess.
The state has painted itself into a corner. I imagine that many "victims" have found their way back to their prison homes.
The Abbate case is another example. By Cook County standards this is NOT an aggravated battery. If Abbate were smart (which he is NOT), he would file a misconduct charge with the ARDC (lawyer punishers) on the felony review ASA two years out of school who approved this case. He (she most likely) would flip on her supervisors in a heartbeat.
