Officer Shot
A Wentworth Area detective is hospitalized in serious condition after being shot in the back during a South Side pursuit early Monday.
Meanwhile, a suspect was in custody for a separate police-involved shooting early Monday on the Near West Side.
A Wentworth Area detective was shot in the lower back about 12:50 a.m. near West 50th Street and South Peoria Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
"The detective saw an individual and approached to conduct a field interview," Alfaro said. "The individual ran and the detective gave chase."
During the pursuit, the detective was shot in the lower back, Alfaro said. It was unclear who shot him and nobody was in custody at 3 a.m., Alfaro said.

A suspect had been arrested in connection with another police-involved shooting, according to a Harrison Area detective.
The officer fired shots at the suspect, who was armed, in the Near West Side's Wood District about 1 a.m. near West Carroll and North Hoyne avenues, according to the detective.

Det P. Johnson was following up on the murder of Posey, tank johnsons body guard killed in ice bar last december, Selvic the suspect fled and shot Detective.
First and formost best wishes and a sppedy recovery to JP. With that being said lets critique the response and subsequent "manhunt" for the suspect.
First officers from 009 arrive with TRU, SOS, and canine closely behind. The officers and the sgts immediately locate and cordon off the crime scene. Then, instead of standing there with their thumbs up their asses, they form a line 2 blocks long and start going north through each yard, checking every garage and open door. WC in 009 arrives and starts to coordinate efforts, requests the command van, requests an alt frequency...all the things he should be doing. Everything is going great, the officers are hot on the trail when who arrives...thats right CLUELESS GENE. Commander Gene immediately lets everyone know "he is the commander" and "he is in charge". Within minutes the line of searching officers is disbanded and the search is stopped. Thats right STOPPED!!! He "commands" TRU and SOS (about 150 coppers total) to form a (as he called it) parameter (although we think he meant PERIMETER) from 47th to 50th Halsted to Racine. TRU and SOS did as they were ordered to do and sat on the parimtere for the next FOUR hours while basically nothing was done inside the parimeter except using canine in the shipping yard and using air-one for cover. Almost an hour went by (on CW6) without one word being said. No "give me cars ..." no "have a team check out..." no "start here and work our way..." NOTHING!!! On a police shooting??? (oh yea, by now Chief Maria is helping coordinate things)
What a joke!!! All Gene-o did was walk around looking at his stupid blackberry and getting on the cell phone (must be calling his side action A.M. to tell impress her with his handling of the situation or maybe ask her what he should be doing next)

An officer shot and you are calling for 9th district coppers to bring you copies of contact cards to identify the shooter while 100 or so TRU, SOS and 9th District rangers sit on the parimeter. (theres no sense setting up a parimeter if you arent going to do anything inside it)

I came from an outside district to assist the manhunt last night. the response was pretty impressive and I hope one of the possibles caught were actually the shooter.
Props to 999 for being able to make good decisions. That nonsense with the helicopter was a total joke.

I want to extend my extreme gratitude to beat 14xx for his total professionalism, dedication, and professional courtesy.
I was running some errands the other morning and noticed a homeless guy sleeping in the front yard of a building I own. I had seen the aforementioned beat car parked down the street "meditating". I went to ask him if he could help me get the guy out of there. I told him I was a PO. He then started interrogating me about the homeless guy- was he a relative, maybe a drunken tenant, a tenants boyfriend, etc. So I thanked him very politely, told him to get back to his meditation and that I would handle it myself. I told him I was going back to the building, pour gasoline on the bum and set him on fire. Then I was going to call the Fire Department. They always show up to do their jobs. Then he gets pissed. I just walked away in disgust. He races down the street, jumps out of his car, kicks the bum and gets him out. Then he asks if I'm happy now. I just said yea, sure, then told him to go fuck himself. He threatens to get a CR#. I told him to go ahead, I do not care. I got in my car and left.
I guess I'll know in the next few days if he did. This job is nothing but dogs with no balls.
I hope the detective is doing well and my thoughts are with him and his family. I hope for a speedy, easy recovery for him.
I just read something put out by Dept Supt Anne Egan regarding limiting non-IOD convalescent duty. Looks like there will be some big changes. According to the information, there are over 300 officer convalescent duty, up considerably from a few years ago. This new policy goes into effect June 1st. Should be interesting to see union response, if officers are cured or if some are forced to go out on disability.

Incidents like this light fires under asses of police from every districts to go out and take care of business that WE know what works for preventing assholes to think twice before they want to fight or shoot at us.
Don't get me wrong, but not everyone is on board and we all know who they are and they are a part of why these shitbirds think it's OK.
Please take care of each other out there. Stop the bullshit shit between each other and hope this dept turns around and takes the cuffs off and lets us handle our business, without striking fear in to the recruits with you'll get suied for this or you'll get suied for that.

The Dick was wearing his vest, I know, I stood over him helping them load him onto the stretcher. I was impressed myself by the response from as far away as 4 and 11, (TRU....US/ME) got there about the same time as 009....no dick waving or chest beating....just straight hunting for this assfuck shooter. I was glad to see that....we put all of our petty shit aside and got down to work.....until the command van got there anyway. Lots of personal initiative was taken by a lot of excellent officers, regardless of unit/district/dept.....state guys came out too and no doubt some county guys. Once the command van got there, last night had to be the most frustrating night on this job.....we went from total action to NOTHING.....not a GOD DAMN THING....what the fuck? The next time something like this happens.....and I pray it won't (but know it will)....boss, stay home and watch it on the news, we had it, well for the first 45 minutes anyway.......

As of 0900 hrs 15 May 07 Det PJ doing as well as could be expected. Had a GSW just below his vest damaging some organs and breaking bones. Dr. say a 6 month to year recovery time.

I would like to see if any of those glory-hungry "lets see how bad we can make the police look today" media pussys would have been out there that night walking through those dark empty wooded lots, checking out abandoned buildings, walking the railroad tracks, and climbing into the various buisness yards that were around there with the only motivation being finding the shit-bag who hurt one our own. They currently have 3 in custody from the search warrant they served. They hit the Selvie house, right next to where he was shot. 2 of them are Selvie's. (As Pat told them as he was going to the hospital.) Two .45's recovered in the house. Charges pending.
He was working 10-4. His partner was securing a group of 4-5 that they jumped out on. P.J. went after the one that took off. It all happened in a matter of seconds. He was shot by someone (Selvie) sitting on his porch as he ran past.

As of 0900 hrs 15 May 07 Det PJ doing as well as could be expected. Had a GSW just below his vest damaging some organs and breaking bones. Dr. say a 6 month to year recovery time.
